Zeljko Ivanek is “Misunderstood In So Many Ways”
By NotHoney on Jul 25 2010 | 2 Comments »I like The Magister. He’s evil and fun and drops references to the Salem witch trials during torture sessions. What’s not to like? The man behind The Magister, Zeljko Ivanek, was at Comic-Con (along with the rest of Hollywood, it seems) promoting his new series “The Event.” Zap2It got an interview with Ivanek and asked him about his many evil guest roles and if it taints his character in the new show.

No matter what happens to him on True Blood his preformance has been so chillingly brilliant that he will not be forgotten.
The Magister is one of those great characters that’s not always in plain view, but always at the back of your mind – and the minds of the regular characters. That image of a 15th century Inquisitor meting out circuit court justice from the back of a Chevy pick-up – oof. Whenever his name was invoked at a few points throughout the series, you didn’t need to see him to feel a shudder of foreboding.
At a mere 500 years old, though, Torquemada’s pupil is no match for a really pissed off 1000-year old Viking. (that’s the scenario, it seems)
Okay, so Zeljko Ivanek is moving up in the world to be a regular in another series – top choice, for a change, NBC , ditto James Frain and Cape – but I reckon AB didn’t have to draw the Magister so artfully just to zip-zop knock him over.
Surely it would have been a smarter move to keep the character technically alive, and have Ivanek make a few guest appearances a year, It sounds as if ZI is only too happy to do the same on the renewed Damages.
