Where’s the Recap by CitizenErased?

NotHoney here. Well, that’s a very good question, innit? We found a note tacked to the door of The Nest’s HQ this morning but were unable to read it until after proper stimulants had been consumed. BRING BACK KOMBUCHA, DAMN IT! We don’t all drink demon coffee.

Ahem.

It seems, after a careful check of The Nest to see if CitizenErased was, once again, hiding in the liquor closet, that she has absconded with all of our beer, wine, and vodka and taken a sabbatical! At least we think it was CE who left the note; it’s hard to tell as it was written in magazine cut outs. Something about running off to rescue Bill … but why that required all of our booze remains to be seen. Unless it wasn’t “rescue” but “kidnap” …

At any rate, CitizenErased and her lively recaps will return next week with a big ass recap to make up for her idle, thieving ways. She’d better bring back the booze, is all I’m sayin.’

lorena recaps ep 6 what do you know about love

"Don't Make Me Kill You - I'm Fangy and Pissed that CE's Not Here To Write About Me"

latbfan here, cheerful drinker of much demon coffee. Lovely explanation, NotHoney, but really? No recap? I’m the first one to admit that I’m ready to hang up my fangs, but CitizenErased has a responsibility to her adoring fan(g)s, does she not? Where else do such excitable recaps exist? *hrommph* Fortunately, I brought my own wine (which I have to drink directly from the bottle, alas), so maybe, until the irrepressible CE returns, I can throw my hat into this ring … I’m not excitable. Not even a little bit, and I’m technologically-challenged, so there’s an obvious lack of photos. Please, everyone, for your sakes, lower expectations. And maybe get some wine (or demon-brew of choice) of your own before reading.

Let’s see, there was blood this week. A lot of blood. Did anyone else notice how very much blood there was? Ewww. I guess Tara being the smartest person in Bon Temps doesn’t mean much when she’s in Jackson because despite the ferocity of the whole head-bashing thing, Franklin Mott did not turn to goo. She didn’t stake him when he was down, and that means he’s not dead (well, he’s technically dead, but I mean finally dead), and since she took a big ol’ chunk of him to drink his blood, he’ll be able to find her. That’ll not be pretty when he turns up. That girl just can’t seem to catch a break (and how exactly did she know about Talbot’s proclivity for serving humans who’d only eaten one thing?), but three cheers for her not being victimized. I like sassy Tara better than terrified Tara.

crystal breaking jasons heart recaps ep 6 what do you know about love

I'd Reject a Guy Still Wearing His Letter Jacket 10 Years Later Too...

Some boring stuff happened in Bon Temps (am I the only one not really into the side-plots?): Arlene and Jessica made nice (the vampires need social services for situations like Jessica, poor thing. I think she’s doing quite admirably), which is good because Arlene needs her tips to feed her kids (where are Colby and Lisa? I like them). Jason continues to wear his letter jacket (really? and no one has told him that’s about as appropriate as pulling people over while shirtless and smacking other boy’s bare bottoms when they’re humping in the backseat?) and made sweet sweet love (only to be rejected, which is probably good for him). Sam’s onto the Mickens’, blah blah snore. I realize that they’re from Arkansas and all, but surely, with the ability to turn into any animal, there’s something more lucrative and less dangerous and cruel than dog-fighting. Wouldn’t Tommy revert back to his human form if injured too? That could be tricky to explain. I did very much enjoy Lafayette and Jesus. They were very tender together, although I strongly suspect Jesus is a witch (that’s fun to write, let me tell you).

alcide no shirt recaps ep 6 what do you know about love

"Why, Hello Handsome... I Love Your Perpetual Shirtlessness..."

I continue to be impressed with the women of True Blood, if only because they don’t stare at the impressively naked men when they turn up, which seems to happen ridiculously often (it could be a True Blood drinking game – everyone has to finish their drink if someone’s naked). Alcide is a gorgeous wolf, and he’s also quite gorgeous all naked and man-scaped. He makes up for the rest of trashy weres, who I’m looking forward to seeing die (Eric will surely end Russell’s pack by the end of the season). But I digress; I get distracted by hot, naked men … So despite the various womens groups who are upset about the violence against women on the show, I thought the ladies held their own this week. Even Sophie-Ann put up a fight, and who doesn’t want to see that mess behind bars?

And while on the subject of women, thank goodness someone finally put his hand over the gob of Miss “I’ll kill you for hurting Bill” when it was obvious that Lorena was tormented over the idea of killing Bill, even  to the point of enraging the King (and we saw how well that worked; he shrugged his shoulders and Bill went flying). Sookie really does make situations worse when she flies off the handle like that. I know she’s young and all, but geesh! For someone who’s been privy to the private, inner workings of people’s minds her whole life, she’s rather willfully naive. Russell Edgington’s line about her walking the fine line between feisty and delusional was deliciously perfect.

eric sookie recaps ep 6 what do you know about love

I've Been Wanting Someone to Do That For Some Time Now... That Eric Did It Wearing THAT Sweater. *licks lips*

I did like Sookie’s little chat in library with the King.  I have to give ol’ Sook props for diving in to save Bill, even though she was so over her head and alone. That lack of self-preservation and courage (even if it is a bit stupid) when it comes to the people she loves is one of the things I’ve always liked most about Sookie. But in the end, she is only human (sort-of), and she ended up showing how little she knows about the vampire world (in fairness to Bill’s lack of disclosure, she’s known him less than two months and they’ve been a tad busy).

Eric is dancing a razor’s edge, trying to save Sookie and Pam AND extract his sweet revenge, all the while pretending to be gay and concentrating on not getting himself killed. The audience knows how he feels about Sookie, but I understand why she’s quite enraged at him at the moment. I have to say, I rather enjoy him being submissive and flirty, but all the smiling is so very un-Eric-like. I was saddened by the blood on the blue sweater – I hope he has a good pre-treater.

While on the subject of pre-treaters, they must have one for the limo because it’s up and running, and Eric and Russell Edgington weren’t sitting ankle-deep in stripper blood. And fortunately for any audience member who might be wondering if the King isn’t so bad because of his charming scenes with Talbot, he casually name-dropped Hitler. Anyone who does that has to be evil, right? Glad we got that all worked out…

bill lorena 3 recaps ep 6 what do you know about love

If I Were Lucky Enough to Have Bill Chained and at My Disposal, I Wouldn't Waste Time Cutting into Him, but That's Just Me

But the shining moment in this week’s episode was between Lorena and her William. As ever, I’m so impressed with the talented Mariana Klaveno. She and Stephen Moyer work so beautifully together. The torture was painful to watch, and her emotional pain, so much more than the physical pain she was inflicting on Bill, was palpable. Their love is dark and twisted, but there was incredible and exquisite tenderness during their scene. Brava …

So um … Yeah … That’s about it for this week. With any luck, CitizenErased will turn up and save y’all from another one of these. Go ahead and pester her with e-mails and comments if you want. I won’t mind.

Great recap Latfban, atleast you had a go at it! I’ve got a “good Work” scratch and sniff sticker for you too.

Tell CE to stop hogging all the booze and get back to work!

  2. Sarah UK says:

Great recap latfban and LMAO at the pic captions especially the last one -but really don’t know what you mean by that , ahem ***bats eyelashes innocently ***

And you’re not the only one getting slightly bored at Bon Temp sub plot antics …. Jason , Arlene et al are no match for the goings on in Jackson . And totally agree abot the Lorena / Bill scenes …as much as i want to see that b***h staked for torturing poor Bill their scenes are very powerful and brilliantly acted and it would be a shame to see her go !

And i know Eric is playing a tactical game trying to save Sookie / Pam and exact revenge but doesn’t stop me from thinking he is a conniving so and so no matter how honourable his intentiions may be or how good he looks in THAT sweater ..

  3. Aemac says:

Great job, Lat! I have to agree with you about Jason’s storyline…..boring. And even though Alcide is nice tolook at, his character is ……boring, absolutely no sizzle for me. I’m sure AB must have bigger plans for him to sign him up for another season, I just hope his character gets more interesting.

I might have to disagree about Eric attempting to save Sookie. He definitely wants to, but like in Dallas it comes second or more like third to other desires. Revenge, Pam and then Sookie. Understandable.

And as you said the shining moment is once again Bill and Lorena. Sad, thought provoking and I don’t think I can watch it again…..but I probably will.

Thanks Lat for a job well done. Love the pic captions as well.

  4. mozella says:

lovely recap, job well done! and thanks so much for seeing the redeeming qualities in eric, LOL ;)

  5. TBObsessed says:

Good points latbfan! I also wondered how Tara knew about the food thing. I guess she’d eavesdropped on a meal or two that we didn’t see. And why didn’t Gus know she wasn’t one of the kitchen staff? I love that Tara didn’t bat an eye when a naked Alcide went running up to her! That guy’s chest is awful hairless for a werewolf!

You just know that vampires have to have a lot of Chlorox 2 or Oxyclean at home… or an unlimited clothing allowance! Lorena especially must have a difficult time. Her fancy clothes have got to be dry clean only. She must have to glamour an entire dry cleaning chain to get them to clean her clothes without reporting her to the authorities!

I like Sam’s story. I think Tommy is cute and really wants a different life. I hope Daddy Dirty Drawers and Mommy Dearest get there’s soon! Jessica and Arlene are kind of cute. I think Jessica’s situation will get more interesting when Bill comes back. Jason and Lafayette’s stories- Not feeling them so much! I hope Jason will be more entertaining when he rushes to Sookie’s bedside!

    • TBObsessed says:

Oops, meant to say “get theirs.” I wasn’t awake yet! :-)

Also, wasn’t that sweet of Coot to offer to steal Debbie anything she wanted from Forever Young (Forever 21??). What a guy!

  6. lizzie1701 says:

Well done Lat! Bottle of wine does wonders!

My fave scenes involved Bill and Lorena – like a shakespearian play! I loved the beginning, with Bill trying to stake RE and tryint to save Sookie.

Glad Sookie told Eric she hated his effin guts. I am so sorry the rabids destroyed my liking of Eric storylines. I am sure I would have enjoyed him, but now am prejudiced.

Loved Talbot and his spat! Talbot and Re have great lines together.

Sookie with RE was good. Someone on another thread thought that the dossier may have been planted at Bills, but I don’t know for what reason.

Seein Bill tortured made me feel tortured and in pain. Next week will be torturous as well.

Can’t get into any other story line.

    • ruthieroux says:

good point about the dossier being planted as Freaky Franklin went right to it. However, I think Alan Ball would want to keep that story line alive b/c it means dramatic intrigue for our 2 main characters.

      • Lividity says:

I agree. I don’t think that it’s a plant. That storyline is definitely a keeper.

        • BillFan45 says:

It has to be for Sophie Anne, but it would be marvelous if it were for Nyall Brigant? That’s what I hope anyway.

This has to be where Sookie learns that Sophie Anne sent Bill to seduce her. That part in the books just killed me because it seemed that just as Bill and Sookie might have been able to repair their relatonship after Lorena, WHAM! Eric makes Bill confess because he wants Sookie for himself. IMHO, since Bill truly fell in love with Sookie, even if SA sent him, it’s not as bad as Eric tricking her into an emotionally and mentally invasive blood bond.

If the story line from the end of season 2 through this part of season 3 had taken place over more than just a few days I would have thought that Bill was trying to figure out why Sookie has the microwave hands. Unfortunately, this is probably where the bad times for Bill begin. (Big sniffles!)

  7. Lividity says:

Thank you Lat & NH for filling in our CE void this week. Very awesome of you both to explain and step in. I do hope that the beverages return eventually. Great work!

“Eric is dancing a razor’s edge, trying to save Sookie and Pam AND extract his sweet revenge, all the while pretending to be gay and concentrating on not getting himself killed.”

I think AB did an excellent job of getting this across in this episode. I understand why Sookie wouldn’t see it, but I’m happy that they’re letting the audience in on this.

Also, hey! You’re right! How did Tara know about the special human diets for cuisine?

    • NotHoney says:

The same way Bill’s car showed up at Fangtasia in “Scratches.” I’m going to assume it’s magic.

Bring back the likker, CE, and all will be forgiven. Well, almost. If you see any bottles of kombucha on the way bring those, too.

No wonder I’m so cranky, I need my damn fix.

      • TruBNewB says:

In “Scratches”, Eric sent Chow to pick up Bill’s car. Doesn’t explain the lack of keys though… maybe vamps are experts at hotwiring?

Thanks latbfan for picking up the reigns this week! Excellent work! Thanks for the comment about Jason and his letterman’s jacket. I seriously rolled my eyes when I saw that.

I too could skip Bon temps for now. Keep the show in Jackson and Shreveport where all the good drama and action is going on and I will be one happy viewer!

        • NotHoney says:

Pick it up from where? Outside the Hamby’s house? Where is that in location to Fangtasia? I figured Bill’s car was supposed to be in the Fangtasia parking lot considering how quickly it appeared.

          • TruBNewB says:

Errr…. the shopping mall maybe? That was where we last saw Bill. The Hamby’s was at least 20 miles from Bon Temps, but I’m not sure where that mall was at. I sort of assumed that Bill did his super-speed thing to get to the Hambys because he sensed either scaredSookie or angryJessica and wouldn’t have wasted time driving.

hey, what’s up with your lack of kombucha? Maybe it’s because I live in a hippy-dippy town, but kombucha abounds on the west coast!

        • NotHoney says:

You’ve seen Synergy Kombucha in a store out there? ‘Cause not even Anna can lay her hands on it right now. It was all removed from store shelves, starting with Whole Paycheck, because a bottle tested above .05 percent alcohol as a result of the fermentation process. There is none to be found out here ’cause I’ve scoured every possible physical and online resource. The major trucking company for most U.S. food products, UNFI, refuses to carry it until the various brands get the fermentation/alcohol level issue under control. I did have five bottles a couple of weeks ago that a local retailer gave me from her private stash, but none since then. It’s awful.

          • Lividity says:

Can’t you just buy it online if they don’t have it at Super Sav-A-Bunch?

          • NotHoney says:

Nope, there’s none to be had online, either.

          • TruBNewB says:

sorry dear, I did not realize you were looking for a particular brand. There are various kambucha “bars” around my town and the one at Trader Joes was hoppin’ yesterday so I guess that is why I surprised to hear about the shortage. I’m not even sure what kambuch is, lol. Is it like chai?

  8. latbfan says:

Thanks, y’all. We do our best to satisfy the fan(g)s. :-)

  9. Reluctantfangirl says:

Yeah! A recap from latbfan! Thanks for filling in for the good-for-nothing-booze-stealing-recap-writing CE! Nice to know you all are a tag team sorta bunch. Life intervenes, we all know that.

Loved your comments about the Mickens. So much of that plot line doesn’t make sense and when you love a show, it makes you snarky when they don’t cross the t’s and dot the i’s, doesn’t it?

Just look the other way if you can. Works for me.

Thanks again for your (always) well-thoughtout take on all things Bon Temps!

  10. BillsNia says:

Thank you NH and lat for bringing us this incredibly well done and insightful recap of this absolutely amazing episode.
How is that for a shinig review of you!!!!
Again this season just keeps getting better and better.

I have a feeling that we may soon see Sam going in the ring to fight for Tommy. He may have to do this. I have always loved Sam! he is also a good man like Bill.

Bill is amazing and Stephen shined. It really is very hard to focus on anything else. His interaction with Lorena was heartwrenching/difficult to watch and yet beautiful in a twisted (sorry to use that particular word, which has been to much abused lately) way. Bill was soul baring in what he felt was his final hour. He gave Lorena that little bit of kindness, for that alone his noble character is so worthy. He freely admited that he was not forced into the unspeakable acts he engaged in with her and still he could not continue as she attempted to make him in her image. Lorena never seemed to be able to break out of her makers evil. That is sad. That Bill would have loved to see her as she was before the monster took her over, that it would have been wonderful, was a gift to her in his end. Kudoes to him and the writers to give him that chance to give them that last bit of open kindness between them.

Bill also was the ill fated hero attempting to save Sookie by the failed attack on Russell, knowing full well that he would probably fail but took the chance anyways. He at least tried dammit!! Good for him for trying. His only thoughts were of Sookie and to save her, even to go so far as to beg Eric to do it as he could not. It was all brilliantly done and executed.

I believe that with Erics help, Bill and he would have stood a good chance to defeat them all. But Eric as always has his own agenda that is always about what Eric wants and to hell with helping his underling. Having Bill dead is just another bonus for him anyways.

Thanks again lat for taking up the reigns. It was an enjoyable read.

  11. Sarah B says:

That was an awsome recap! I totally precieved it all that way as well! I so can see the possibility of Jesus being a witch with him knowing all about the buda and the other God statue which i can’t remember the name I think it has something to do vodoo not sure on that one! Someone else on a different site a while back suggested that he may be Claude?? Boy wouldn’t that be a twist as well! Again Thanks and Kudos to you!

    • ruthieroux says:

i personally think Jesus will be a fairy both figurtively (homosexual) and literally (supernatural). A good way to introduce fairies into the plot line PLUS faires are supposedly incredibly handsome and I think our Jesus fits that trait! Also, not just any old human could be intersted in our Lovely Lafayette! It would HAVE to a supe of some kind.

  12. ERicLILFangBanger says:

I agree…i hope he had a good stain remover!

  13. shocknawe says:

Thank you for knowing how much we look forward to the recaps. A girl deserves a break now and then.

You guys are insightful and funny – loved the TB drinking game idea. I’ll play!

I’m not feelin the side stories either. It would be a daunting task though to try to write something interesting for the other characters (who certainly deserve a story) when the RE, Bill, Lorena, Talbot story line is just so good. The addition of Franklin is great too. But it makes the Mickens and Jason’s story seem bland at times. For me I love the vamps and when they do something like show the teenagers humping in the back when there’s 5 min left and I want to see Bill get rescued, I get cranky.

Next week’s gonna break my heart ……

  14. gattopardo says:

great recap latbfan! Thank you (and NH) for easing the silver-on-naked-vamp-flash pain of CE’s absence.

Latbfan, you brought up some excellent points and I do agree the Mary Magdalene-Gone-Goth // Prometheus imagery of Bill&Lorena was striking and eerily beautiful. Thanks to the comments of the insightful fans here I now have a deeper appreciation for that whole exchange because by golly, I was just aching for Bill to cuss and trash Lorena’s sadistic a*s front, center and back. I know, I know, bad bad bad me.
But oh well, Bill will be the kind and generous even if with Lorena it amounts to little more than pearls to swine.

  15. BillFan45 says:

    Great review as always.
I wondered why Tara didn’t go for the battleax instead of the mace. If she had just severed Funny Frank’s head, he would have been dead for sure, “finally”, I mean. Also where did she shower and get so clean. Not much security going on in the big house.

The torture/love scenes between Lorena and Bill were twisted, but strangely tender on both sides. Their acting was just so believable, one could almost believe Bill had real feelings for her at one time. ( I think that must make me an official sicko). Even if she is a bigger phsycopath than Franklin Mott, there is no doubt that Lorena loves Bill. I liked it that my guy Bill manned up and admited that Lorena didn’t have to force him to take part in their bloody games with humans. Wonder if that will be more explored.

  16. Sarah UK says:

Slightly off topic but forgot to ask earlier – what is Kombucha ???

    • TBObsessed says:

It’s a beverage made from a yeast-like culture placed in tea and fermented. Apparently, it makes some people feel good, but it just makes me constipated! I do much better with kefir! (A similar fermented product, but using different cultures in milk.)

      • Sarah UK says:

Ah right thanks for the explaination TBObsessed ..but don’t think i like the sound of either concoction !!

        Come back soon CE !!!

  17. CitizenErased says:

Fucking brava, a fine effort. I surely do appreciate it, you guys *hic* I’ll be back to work soon, me promise.

CE- from a secret location ;)

  18. coonass says:

Fantastic lat! thank you for giving us our fix and saving the day.
CE, you have fun and save some booze for us.

  19. Acanthus says:

Great writers and their drinks are inseparable. While CitizenE is in her Hemingway period , what an Olympic recap hand-off that was! Latbfan and NotHoney, I raise my glass to you with this fine bloodtini prised from the very cold and nearly dead hands of CE.

IMO only: to me this episode was part Shakespearean, part soap and part True Blood: The Musical: genius, corn and camp.

The dramatic zenith, I think we all agree, was the Bill and Lorena scene. The “I wish I could have known you as you were before…” lines were, well, possibly some of the finest of the series. Possibly also one of two of the finest love scenes, really, the other being Bill and Caroline (and Lorena). Again, when she’s given some decent material, Mariana Klaveno just knocks this part out of the park.

All of which only underscored the tedium of the star-crossed corn of the Jason/Crystal interlude. For chrissakes, we just want to see the gorgeous real-life panthers, okay? Just shift and die, already.

Ditto Jesus. For me, he’s draining the life out of Lafayette’s scenes, and he’s not even a cool vampire. Tender, yes, but not really touching. Reveal what you are (warlock? New Age nursing fairy? Reveal what you are, amaze us, and you too, be gone.

KRE, DON’T go. In only a few episodes, you’ve become indispensable to the chess board. All the other characters look particularly good around you, too. Even QSA begins to look more interesting, and I swear Sookie came close to being truly lovable.

Close, I said.;-)) Was there ever a more cathartic moment in this series than when Eric clapped that big hand over that big mouth? In an earlier thread I asked if anyone else had cheered. A poster answered: only about 250,000 other people.

    In brief:

Most adorable couple: KRE and Talbot
Most unadorable couple: Debbie and Cooter
Characters doomed but should be keepers: KRE and Talbot
Best love scene: Bill and Lorena
Worst love scene: Jason and Crystal
Worst scene period: Jason and Crystal win by a nose to Debbie and Cooter
Most unforgettable moment: Eric and Sookie – the :gag: sight gag
Most forgettable moment: Jesus and Lafayette, most moments
Bets single line: “Thank you” (see Eric and Sookie, above))
Best trio performance: Eric, KRE and QSA
    Best duet: Bill and Lorena
Most improved character: Tara. Smart moves , so smart we wonder how she knew some of them.
You-can’t-fool-us moment: AB, we KNOW Franklin’s not dead. No blood clot. Duh.
    Most improved characetr

    nice lat!!!!!!!! :)
Yay for eric…shutting up sookie! lol
their argument was quite heated and intense for people that 1) have only known each other for 2 mths and 2) are not a couple…actually dont really have any type of relationship…yet!
Loved the remarks bill made about wanting to see lorena when she was human…really beautiful and heart breaking!
Yay for tara showing some smarts – apart from the way she tried to kill franklin..
I agree eric is riding a very fine line…to me its too obvious and Im sure KRE is on to eric! Cant pull the wool over the eyes of a 2,800 yr old!

  21. Kendra says:

Great recap, and you filled CE shoes wonderfully Latbfan!

Great points made about the show from everyone, and so i’m going to take this opportunity to add a few of my thoughts on the season so far. What has really stuck out for me is the maturity difference between Bill, Eric, and Russell. Bill is like a teenager, always trying to rebel, looking for his own identity, prone to be moody, and hasn’t mastered controlling his emotions. We also see his lack of experience when dealing with Russell and vampire politics. We’ve been shown briefly through flashbacks that Eric went through a similar phase, but Godric was a much better mentor than Lorena was. Now Eric is calm under pressure and has a keen understanding of how the political vampire minefield is played. He is calculating and manipulative because he has to be in order to survive, yet still values loyalty of those closest to him. I think Eric had the foresight to realize that Sookie would end up in serious trouble and that he wouldn’t be in a position to help her. Which is why he called in Alcide to protect her.

The one storyline I do find a bit of a snore fest is the Jason and Crystal story arch. Not a big fan of Jason trying to be cop either. I liked road crew Jason who’s only concern was his truck and women. I am intrigue with the Sam’s family drama and am looking forward to that developing. Someone mentioned that if Tommy got hurt in the ring wouldn’t he turn human. Perhaps this particular dog fighting is for sups only and it’s AB’s way of setting up the introduction to Quinn, prize fighter of them all. Just a thought.

Well it’s back to my chores.

    • Isabella5 says:

I don’t find Bill immature at all….nor would I compare him to a teen.
I find him giving it his all because in his heart he knows he is doomed. he is going to go out with some gusto. *sniff*
Eric’s vendetta could land him in some serious trouble, and he may bring others into it with him as well.

      • BillFan45 says:

Boy do I ever agree with you. Bill is not acting like a teenager. He is acting like a man who will do anything to save his love, even if it means he dies doing it. When he begged Eric to save Sookie, and Eric just laughed, my heart went out to Bill.

Bill has had the best roles this season and he has really become a kick ass guy. For the most part, he has been in total control of his emotions; Bill is no hot tempered kid.

I know Eric is playing a role to get Russel Edgington to trust him, but seeing that creepy, phony smile on his face as he butters up RE really makes my skin crawl. it reminds me of some creepy cartoon I saw. I don’t think people should underestimate Eric’s need for revenge; it is overwhelming. That wasn’t love that made Eric scare the hell of out Sookie; tell her she means nothing to him and tell her not to get in his way.

        • TBObsessed says:

Oh, I agree about Eric’s smarmy fake smile. Everytime I see it, I think, “Euw, that’s phoney as hell!” You’d think someone Russell’s age could see through it easily, too. I guess Talbot is right. He does like to surround himself with sycophants!

        • Kendra says:

Perhaps I didn’t quite get to my point when I wrote this late at night before bed. It’s that passion and gusto without quite looking before he leaps that shows his lack of experience. Think back to some of the teenage guys you knew in highschool, so determine to be the man and yet impulsive. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but there is a certain innocense on Bill’s part that hasn’t quite been jaded yet through time and experience. Not to mention he tends to rebel against his elders which isn’t what we’ve all been guilty of in are younger days.

Interesting what you said about Eric, and while I don’t disagree that he is more controlled, the scene with Godric counselling him on keeping emotions in check was 60 something years ago and Eric is over a 1000 years old. Either bad choice of setting for that scene by the writers or Eric is a slow learner – so Bill ain’t so bad by comparison at 160 something years.

    Great recap!!

I agree…The BT storylines are not doingit for me….and I freakin hate anything Hotshot, even though its slightly different from the books its still yucko.

Lorena and Bill stole the show!!!!

Mariana Klavenko is the best actress on the show. I wonder how she would have played Sookie.

An opinion that will make me vastly unpopular: I don’t think Anna Paquin has gelled in this part. Yes, I know that the material is often working against her, and I would be the first to say what a superb talent she is, BUT I always get anxious when she’s on screen. Every scene is: will she make it happen this time? Will she finally own and inhabit the character, or is it going to be yet another nail on the blackboard moment?

My pick was, and remains, Katee Sackhoff for Sookie. Sorry.

        Acanthus.

Anna is a good actress, but I don’t think she is the right actress for this part either. I kind of liked her during the first season, but she hasn’t grown into the part. I don’t see that her character has developed well. She is too goofy and and teenagerish which is a little odd for a woman who is supposed to be 25 on the show. But as you say, she has to work with the material she’s given.

I loved Katee Sackhoff in Battlestar Galatica. There were some really hard hitting and deeply emotional scenes. Some of the episodes were so hard, and emotionally tormenting, she must had to plumb the depths of her soul to do them, but she did. She did terrific work there, and also on 24.

I love the BloodWork vlog and my favorite part is where they do “Whatevah, Soookeh!” and name their favorite bonehead stunt Sookie pulled in the episode! :-)

    • wiwa says:

I love Mariana – but she wouldn’t be right for Sookie. I like Anna as Sookie, and part of the reason is because she does a good job of playing naive and innocent. I think people expect Sookie to have it together way too soon, it’s been less than two months since she met a vampire, her gran was murdered and nonstop strangeness and danger surrounded her.

  24. Acanthus says:

And my unpopularity is about to grow by exponential leaps and bounds. Not because of any Bill vs Eric nonsense, but because I see a real flaw (to my way of thinking) in this HBO series.

The camera work and the lighting are mediocre. To the point where I don’t understand why Alan Ball retains this crew. BillFan45 reminded me of the Battlestar Galactica series, and others have mentioned The Sopranos. I myself am a great fan of Law & Order.

Whatever the budget, these programs outstrip TB in the creative technical department, and I’m not talking special effects. The visuals are flat, obvious, and counter-productive to the realisation of the script.

Here I am, come and get me all who vehemently disagree.

Thanks for the recap, very enjoyable, though I do also appreciate CE’s snark. I love Sookie, but I did laugh when Eric covered her mouth. I liked Eric more in this episode than I have through the 29 previous shows and 6 books. I have to respectfully disagree with the “brava “- she was great but Stephen held his own with Mariana, a lot of what he had to do was at least as difficult as fake tears. My favourite part of the scene was when he told Lorena how much he wished he had known her as a human, it’s one of my favourite Bill moments of the whole series.

Huge thank you to latbfan! I always enjoy CE’s opinionated re-caps so it would have been a hard-ship to do without. You filled the void, LOL! Thanks again!

  27. Melissa says:

Well if anyone cal fill CE’s shoes it is you my dear Latb!!! Wonderful recap… it’s a good thing we can enjoy your writing, your styles are so different and both so great!!!

I loved this episode… this are starting to move and go real fast, I can’t believe we waited so long and we’re half way to… start waiting again!!!

We miss CE, but Latbjan did one great job. We have plenty of kombucha here in maine, didnt know there was more than one kind.

  29. Pat says:

    Thank you l
LatB for stepping in so gracefully while CE is on her bender for Bill. This episode and the last have really brought back the excitement I felt the first time I saw an episode of True Blood. The opening scene was fantastic! I loved how it started out in slo-mo and then became what it did. Sookie and Talbot shreiking together was hilarious plus I would have loved to been on set when the scene with Bill jumping on RE’s shoulders was filmed. I’ll bet there were a gazillion takes as those two had to have a hard time keeping straight faces…they are both so fun-loving and funny. I too cheered when Eric clamped his had over Sookie’s mouth and then said “Thank you.” The look in her eyes was priceless.

I like AP as an actress, but I don’t think she looks the part. She is doing as good of a job as possible
with the material she has. Her interview with RE was done very well.

I think RE believes that Eric is gay…that is how Eric will trap him and get close enough to reap his vengeance.
Cannot wait to see how that plays out and if it changes Eric in any way. Holding on to so much hate for a thousand years has to wear one down.

I hope the Pam situation is resoved in the next episode…I miss her and her great one-liners.

I love the way Joe M. plays Alcide (not to mention how easy he is on the eyes). When he gets upset his words come out as a growl…not easy to do. He is so important in the books that I am glad he has signed on as a regular cast member.

Ditto on the scenes with Bill and Lorena…but I couldn’t watch her cutting him again.

Off topic a little…CE, did you notice one of the audience questioners at the comic con referred to Godric as Vampire Jesus? Kudos, CE. It even made AB smile with the smile that said “I wish I had thought of that!”

Love the recaps and all the comments. So much fun!
