Charlaine Harris was recently in Poland and did a video interview. Beware, there might be some book spoilers for book 10 in the Sookie Stackhouse series, Dead in the Family. A couple of highlights include:

Q: Some fans still believe that Sookie and Bill are meant for each other, does this couple have any chance to be together again?

CH: “I’m not hinting. I am NOT hinting (she’s laughing and shaking her head when she’s saying this). Uh, Uh, They really had a wonderful relationship, and they may have it again.

Q: While you were writting “Dead Until Dark”, did you know that at some point Sookie would be involved with tall, and handsome vampire who was a Viking?

CH: “Ahhhhh, noooooo. i hadn’t got that far in my thinking yet. Ah, Eric’s character developed over the next several books and I wasn’t sure where I going with the book I was kind of working that out in my head.”

Thanks RC & true-blood.com.pl for the videos.

And with that second question and answer CH gave away a lot. Recently CH repeated herself in saying that when she wrote the first book she knew who Sookie would end up with. And now she also states that when writing the first book she never thought about Eric being with Sookie, he wasn’t developed until later. Sooooo…….

    • Lividity says:

Soooo that means Sam or Bill or Terry Bellefleur then?

    • CharmCityBloodFan says:

If memory serves, Ms. Harris stated that she decided Sookie’s ultimate fate somewhere between the second and third book. (Which makes sense, considering she wouldn’t even have known that DUD would launch a series when she first sat down to write it.) Once she got that three-book deal, however, I suspect THAT’S when plans really began to take shape, and she started looking ahead to the series’ future developments– both romantic and otherwise.

  2. zz says:

yes, but looks like she also was thinking in killing Bill at some point.
so that makes Sam as my nr 1 bet
BUT i wont get into this game again, she knows what to say to never say a thing and get everyone hanging.

    • Aemac says:

I don’t think CH thinking about killing Bill means anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if she hasn’t thought about killing off Jason, Tara and Eric too. I think as a writer all kinds of scenarios would cross your mind.

  3. Tina says:

As I recall, she decided who Sookie would end up with when she was writing Book 2.

Dead Until Dark was written as a stand alone book, and she didn’t know when she wrote it whether there would be any more books after that. What she says above about not being” that far along in her thinking” while writing DUD supports that and she’s also said in numerous interviews that there was no plan in DUD for this reason.

When she was signed to write more after DUD was published, she started to map out the story in her head and while writing book 2 she decided where Sookie would end up.

She hasn’t said anything here that we didn’t already know.

I went to CH site and searched.
CH actually said she began to develop the series end during book 2, and that was when she began to develop erics character more. *sigh*
I dont feel this is good news for Book Bill AT ALL. And like ZZ said, charlain had planned to maybe kill our Bill in d & g….I just dont care about those damn books anymore.

But we still have Alan Ball and True Blood! Go Bill Go!

  5. S. says:

Thanks for putting my interview here. I think Sookie will end up with Sam :/ Sookie won’t be changed into a vampire as Harris said, she dreams about family and kids. Eric was meant to be Bill’s bad boss and look hot but the readers thought that this character is too interesting to be somewhere in a background. So I think it’s no for Eric and Bill :( But I can be wrong.

    • Lividity says:

Thank you S! Wonderful interview. I don’t know who Sookie will end up – and for that matter, does she have to “end up” with anyone?

I still think Andy Bellefleur has a shot though ;)

    • CitizenErased says:

I always thought it would be Sam, and I think that would be a good resolution. He’s a nice guy who can give her a normal life and always be there for her. Eric is not a keeper.

  6. TBLVR says:

CH said ” Sookie may not get exactly what she ‘thinks’ she wants”

“Eric was meant to be Bill’s bad boss and look hot but the readers thought that this character is too interesting to be somewhere in a background.”

That is a personal opinion. CH has never ever said this.

@BR – you are right…CH did say book 2 is when she began to plan the ending.

I am not convinced Children are in Sookie’s best interest whatsoever.

These interviews are always, or try to be, appeasing to all fans of the SSN.
But its whats in the books and between the pages that count.
Happy to hear she is working on the eleventh book.

    • S. says:

“Eric was meant to be Bill’s bad boss and look hot but the readers thought that this character is too interesting to be somewhere in a background.”

Yes she did, in Poland. I don’t remember whether it was during the meeting in Krakow or a video chat. I don’t remember but she did said this…

      • TBLVR says:

Unless you can provide a source, a link, a video, or an article, which states that from CH, then I can’t trust that statement to be true. I will however ask her if she made that quote in the form of a question in the QSSS at her site.

        • Lividity says:

Just so you know, S here is the one actually doing the interview above. She *is* a source as she was actually there. No harm in asking ol’ CH though.

  7. Melissa says:

I totally agree with her in the casting of Joe Mangianello… he is so much more handsome than the Alcide I imagined from the books description, whom I didn’t even find the Alcide attractive… but Joe… ohh boy I thinks I might be switching teams… lol!!!

P.S.: and he is taller than Alexander… is that even possible?!!!

    • Lividity says:

I agree as well. Joe is one hot-looking thespian. Seems Alcide might be another character that True Blood will probably improve. I can’t say book Alcide did very much for me either, so at least now I can see dude might bring some serious presence to the role.

And yeah, *is* it even possible to be taller than Alex?

      • Kendra says:

Joe Mangianello is taller than Alexander Skarsgard. He stands at 6’5 where Alexander stands at 6’4. Talk about having some pretty big men on this show, but I’m not complaining.

  8. Gracounette says:

I think CH plays with us. She will not give us indication because if she chooses Bill Eric’s fans will not read any more books and also for the Bill’s fans if it’s Eric. I don’t think she wants to lose readers. Thus once she gives some hope to the Bill’s fans, once to the Eric’s fans. A thing is sure it’s that nothing is certain. Bill is still lucky as Sam, Eric and the others.
But I continue to say that it is Bill who will be with Sookie, many things proves it, as the rancor and the anger which Sookie feels for Bill

  9. JessiesGrrl says:

I think Sookie forgiving, and perhaps trusting Bill again at the end of D/G is what will allow her to move forward with her life. I hope Sookie can forgive Jason and they can move forward as well.
Forgiveness is moving on. It’s letting go(of the anger and the rancor). Time to look to the future, not the past.
Maybe Bill will have a part in that future. Maybe he won’t.Same goes for Eric, Quinn and Sam.
I agree with Lividity, Sookie doesn’t have to end up with anyone, however book 10, clearly states Sookie and Eric are in a relationship, whatever that entails, so we will have to see how that plays out.

  10. Horror Reader says:

I think Charlaine says ambiguous stuff in interviews to keep SVM/SS readers guessing and buying her books. I don’t think it’s necessary for Sookie to have a boyfriend, but if she does, I think Sam is the one for her.
