bill season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

Eric may not know much, but he does know to bow to his king

I have never been a superstitious person, but holy crap on a cracker! After seeing this week’s episode I will henceforth be hermited safely indoors whenever there is a full moon, because it clearly causes some freaky deeky goings on to occur. Honestly, its like every season tries to out-freak the last, and the freak-o-meter is now close to exploding. So, let’s get into it.

Sookie and Eric take their sucky-face fun times from the porch to the sofa, now minus cheeseball music and also minus some clothes.  He tells her that her half nekkid bod is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, with ‘ever’ of course meaning ‘in the last three days.’ They have about ten seconds to remain blissfully unaware that Pam has snitched on them before Bill arrives, takes a moment to, um, get even angrier, launches himself in Eric’s direction and they have an AWESOME fight! That would have been more fun to watch, but hardly realistic as Eric is old and strong enough to swat Bill away like a fly. What really happens is that Bill gets in a couple of punches that are probably more like bitch slaps, then gets Darth Vadered, thrown into the fireplace and threatened with a poker. Oooh, how humiliating, and for a king too! When Eric finds out that the guy he vamphandled is actually his liege he’s instantly apologetic and obedient, which Bill seems to realise is iffy and sooo not Eric. Still, he kind of hates the guy and is seething with jealousy and a wounded ego, so it’s into Bill’s Big House, for you big blonde!

ericstakingBill season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

"I will poke you Mr. Compton! Wait, no?"

The new authority-respecting Eric doesn’t put up a fight, but Sook is all in a tizzy. Since she knows Eric isn’t really a danger to other vamps, she calls Bill out that he may be doing this just because he’s miffed that somebody else is about to get into her pants, even though he’s been in a whole bunch of pants and necks (and descendants.) He’s totally in complete a-hole mode, especially when he pulls out this very un-gentlemanly zinger: ‘Believe it or not, my entire existence doesn’t revolve around what or who is between your legs.’ Oh snap! Please give Bill a few more lines where he’s an insensitive jerk, because that was amazing. All his a-holery and hogwash about it being vampire business is just getting Sook more worked up, and the king has better things to do than listen to her wailing, so he just gets his ninjas to escort her out the door and threatens to arrest her if she comes back. Ejected!

The better things to do is Skyping with Flanagananagans about this whole situation and letting the bullshit continue to flow. Eric isn’t cursed he’s ‘infected’, he doesn’t recognise the Authority even though he was bowing to his King, and instead of being just a poor sod who’s been robbed of his memories he’s being controlled by the necromancers as some sort of weapon to destroy the vampires from the inside. He then requests permission to sentence Eric to the true death, for the good of vampirekind of whatever, and strikes a supervillian pose. Mwahahahaha!

killingfuckinglaughing season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

Pam says, "I have been with you over 100 years. We’ve traveled the world together killin' and f---in’ and laughin'."

The stinky aroma of death is actually already in Eric’s cell. It’s Pam, who’s concealing her rotting self under a blanket until Eric commands her to take it off. She tells him all about Marnie, Lafayette, Jesus and Tara messing with her gawjuss face and that they need to get out of there so he can do what he does best: kill some motherfuckers. Unfortunately for her, not only will Eric not hear a treasonous word about their dork of king, he wants nothing more to do with being a badass Viking god. Sigh. Back under the blanky for you then, Pam.

prettylady copy season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

OK, so who's that pretty lady? Is she behind the writing on the wall?

The full moon came a day early for poor Arlene and Terry, as the flaming matchbook from last week has now escalated into a full-fledged house fire. They’re freaking out and trying to get the kids out of the house, and baby Mikey is not in his cot and nowhere to be found. They get outside just as the windows explode and they think he’s met a fiery death, but somehow the little tyke beat them all out of the house and was sitting on the lawn playing with his creepy doll. He then sees a woman in the distance and is smiling and laughing at her, but the woman is nowhere to be seen when Arlene turns around. Mikey sees dead people…they’re everywhere.

andy season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

Hercules Andy got himself a date with Holly

This disaster brings the Bon Temps community out in support, including Andy, who’s ability to lift an armchair clean over his head and carry it to a truck so impresses Holly that they’ve set up a date, and of course landlord Sam, who’s had about all he can take of Andy’s persistent badgering and threatens to turn into a Doberman and bite his face off. Sam’s landlord duties are going to keep him at the fire scene all day, so he calls Tommy to open up the bar for him. I guess Tommy owed Sam for helping him dispose of Ma and Pa last week, so he’ll do anything to make him happy. Including making sure the good customers of Merlotte’s have Sam’s familiar face to greet them. Tommy’s beating himself in the head in a fit of guilt and staring into the mirror when some unintentional shifter magic happens and biggety bam, Sam I am. Holy Skinwalker!

samtommy season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

Tommy in an awesome Sammy suit

Of course, because this is Tommy Mickens we’re talking about, in one day of ‘being’ Sam he manages to mess up about as much of Sam’s life as possible. As if Merlottes’ waitress situation wasn’t already dismal, when Sook comes in with yet another of the life or death emergencies that seem to keep her from work, TommySam fires her, pretty blonde ponytail and all. Which was actually pretty damn funny. Probably not as funny as the ridiculous way he’s walking or flirting with the first pretty girls he sees though. Sam Trammell, you are awesome and I hope you had as much fun acting this as I had watching it. Maxine Fortenberry does call Tommy dumber than a bucket of spit right in front of him, which has got to hurt a little. But I guess he got over it pretty quickly when Luna shows up at Sam’s place, taking her clothes off and in every other way being really up for it. Oh, geez. You couldn’t have just blurted out ‘Hey, its me, Sam’s brother, so just put those boobies away and save them for him!’ Oh, right, this is Tommy we’re talking about, and he’s an annoying shit. So Luna has now inadvertently slept with her boyfriend’s brother (which is so wrong), plus he really wasn’t what she was expecting in bed, and he also turned into a belligerent dick and told her to fuck off. And I felt sorry for you last week Tommy. But karma is a bitch ain’t it, cos who’s vomiting up guts and passed out now, huh?

After being relieved of her duties, Sook goes off to Jason’s to find out exactly why he hasn’t been answering his phone. He’s handcuffed to the bed in nothing but his underroos, which she of course thinks is some sort of sex thing. Sook, how dare you think the worst of your brother? It’s nothing like that. Just that his psycho ex and her inbred clan bit and raped him and now he’s afraid he’s turning into a were-panther. Handcuffs clearly aren’t going to contain a panther, so they go outside for beers and a brother sister bonding sesh. Anna and Ryan are always like a Southern Hemispherean tag team of awesomeness when together (represent!) so I’m very glad they got another scene. Jason isn’t dealing well with his possible impending panther-ness, and urges Sook to shoot him in the head if he starts turning. Yes, Jason, your sister is really going to do that. This isn’t The Walking Dead. But he’s so freaked out at the thought of being anything but an All American human who’s good at sex, shooting and downing brewskis that he pulls a disappearing act when Sook goes to get him a fresh can.

He’s having a full on panic attack out in the woods under the full moon when Jess zooms in and needs to calm him down. She was in the middle of serving her very first customers as a waitress (the recently reunited Naomi and Tara, who as usual is super unimpressed with everybody of the fanged persuasion) when she sensed his fear and came vampspeeding to the rescue. She uses some old calming techniques that used to work on her doormat of a mother, and it’s working a treat. Or maybe it’s that he’s getting an eyeful of her tight Merlottes tee enclosed lady lumps. She decides to stay with him, since she still remembers how scary the night she was turned was, and they wait. And wait. And wait some more. And no fur sprouts, no claws, no big ass teeth or any other kitty looking features. Yep, those Hotshot fuckers really are that dumb that they couldn’t even make a werepanther properly. Actually, you can’t make one at all, as weres can only be born, not made (thanks, Alcide and Debbie).

Jason Jessica1 season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

Uh-oh, Jason & Jessica have a "special" talk

And after all the panicking, Jason is actually a bit disappointed, because now he’s still just normal and boring and un-special. Tear. But Jess still thinks he’s plenty special, with his football and womanising skills and his smokin’ good looks. Before this can get into even more dangerous territory they both remember that a certain somebody named Hoyt still exists and that they should probably keep this on the hush hush. The whole thing is hilariously cute and awkward, especially when Jason tries to diffuse any would be sexual tension by slapping her on the shoulder like he would one of the boys. Screw all that Team Bill or Eric shit, how the hell am I supposed to choose Team Jason or Hoyt?! I thought the two J’s were great together here and had some real chemistry…then I felt evil for wanting anything to happen because Hoyt is such an adorable teddy bear. The shame. I just really reaalllly hope everything to do with Hotshot is done for now, but I’m not getting my hopes up too soon.

Jesus Lafayette season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

"Remind me why we are here again Jesus?"

Lafayette and Jesus in Mexico my turn out to be the new Hotshot though, as it was kinda a load of meh. They’re eating goats tongue and capturing rattlesnakes and getting bitten by said rattlesnake and getting possessed by dead relatives, and it’s all somehow connected by a miniscule thread to what’s going on with Marnie, but it’s so separate at this point that it needs something to make it interesting on its own, and that something isn’t there, even if Nelsan Ellis does do a great Tio Luca.

The head witchypoo, on the other hand, is still amazing and scary as shit. She’s tearing strips of flesh off her own arms and smearing blood on her head and still having visions from the past. And oh goody, this one’s got more rape. Seriously, somebody getting gang raped for two episodes wasn’t enough?! Here it’s Antonia getting raped (and fed on) by Father/Sheriff Luis, in an attempt to rid her of all remaining hatred and defiance. Yeah, that was a mistake. As we found out last week, while being burnt at the stake she used necromancy to make the vamps walk into the daylight, and we see it happen now. Priests and nuns all leave their coffins and go up in smoke just as she is, and if Marnie didn’t learn this nifty little spell just by witnessing it in a vision, well, the full on possession thing might work. Antonia’s spirit appears in the jail cell, she flies straight into Marnie’s mouth and a transformation occurs. Marnie isn’t really Marnie anymore, she’s Antonia using Marnie’s body. They have become one. Should we now call her Marntonia? And if we thought Fiona Shaw was incredible up to this point, I think she’s about to get even better. Think about it, she’s now playing what is essentially a different character. We get a little taste of her in this new, powerful sorceress mode when Luis pays her a visit after seeing something familiar in her face while monitoring her through a computer screen. In short, he calls her a mad whore and she’s all like ‘On your knees, bitch!’ while spellogising in that foreign language as she does. And its totally rad. Vampires: you screwed. Ah, I love me an insane villain.

Meanwhile, one of the main characters of this show is about to get executed. Momentous! Huge! Earth shattering! Ok, so only the noobiest of noobs would have thought it would actually happen, it was just a question of what would happen and how it would affect the ever-evolving relationship between sirs Compton and Northman. Bill is waiting outside staring at the full moon, actually already looking like he’s lost his nerve about the whole thing, when Eric is led outside and bought to his knees by the royal entourage of thugs (I’m really starting to hate those goons).

ericbill season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon

"She deserves to be happy." "Oh, right... I knew that."

Eric thinks he’s there because he’s under the spell of a necromancer (only partly true) and because he consorted with Bill’s human (even less true). He asks if Bill still loves Sookie, to which he replies that’s irrelevant and he’s there because he received orders to do this (the most blatantly untrue statement of the lot). Eric is fully accepting of his sentence anyway, believing that a barbarian thug with no respect for authority deserves the true death, and has nothing to say in defense of his former self. He has some last requests though: to let Pam go, as somebody who’s decomposing at that rate can’t be a threat to anybody, and to tell Sookie that he was born the night she found him and that he’ll die knowing what it is to love. Bloody hell, Skarsgard, you really must be doing a great job because even that line didn’t make me laugh. At this point Bill looks like he’d rather be doing anything but putting a stake through the heart of his longtime enemy (yes, Amnesia Eric’s charms really are that good), but he picks it up anyway. The thing that finally well and truly convinces him that Eric is definitely not faking this and there is nothing left of his old self is when Eric tells him that he and Sookie should find their way back to each other once he’s gone, because she deserves happiness with whoever can give it her.

If I could, a moment of personal opinion. I think the fact that this was so different to any other previous Bill and Eric scenes, combined with the superb acting of both guys made it probably one of my favourite scenes ever. And this week, when fans are feeling their Team Eric/Bill allegiances more than ever, I’m re-pledging my allegiance to the two teams I’ve always been on: Team Steve and Alex Are Both Awesome, and Team Hooray For Great TV. Thank you.

ericsookie season 4 recaps ep 06 i wish i was the moon Did he let them go just to do the right thing? Because Sookie would never forgive him if he didn’t? Because he does want her to be happy? All of these things? We might never know, but I’m sure all of these things are going through Bill’s head as he once again stares at the full moon, blood in hand and a look on his face that is sadness, regret and acceptance all in one. Pam’s first order of business is to of course deal with those face fucker-uppers, and Tara better still have that gun with the wooden bullets if she and her girlfriend want to get out of the Merlottes parking lot with their throats intact. Eric’s desires are a little less violent, and he tracks Sook down in the woods as she’s yelling at the still missing Jason ‘You ain’t gonna be…A WEREPANTHER!’ Good thing he’s not, because Sook is way too busy getting busy. She and Eric run into each other’s arms and make sweet lurve right there in the woods. It’s not as exotic as a graveyard, but I’m sure there’ll still be some dirt involved.

Might require a shower. Out!

My friends at work and I agree…That sad “…she deserves to be happy” line. FANTASTIC!!!! Between that and the haunting Neko Case song, I found it hard not to be overly emotional about the whole damn thing. The acting by these gentleman is some of the best on TV, Skarsgard, Trammel, and Moyer. And I am new here, but that was a great recap Jess. I cant believe you didnt like the line about the Hotshot fuckers being too stupid to make a Werepanther right, and Jason asking if Jessicas mom was a Werepanther when she helped with his panic attack. Im not usually a big Jason fan, but I laughed out loud at him several times during this episode. Again, I loved your recap, and have been waiting for it to hit the site, Great job.

  2. Emma says:

Great recap…. I loved the whole ending…. Skokie and Eric finally together. So perfect. The song, the script…. Just everything. It made me cry!!

  3. hdgcat says:

Bill’s Big House…I’m going to think of this everytime I see La Casa de Compton from now on! LOL!

    Great recap as always…

me personally, i was enjoying Bill being jerky for once , it beats seeing more emo Bill , kiss Sookie *ss Bill and stuffy Bill.

And I almost felt sorry for Pam in the cell , to her Eric is already dead.

  4. shocknawe says:

Sometimes I get annoyed and impatient at the “side character stories” but the way Sam did his Tommy-possessed scenes just blew me away. He deserves massive credit for the way he acted his ass off in this episode.

The building showdown between Antonia and the vampires has me totally absorbed and anxious to see what each week brings.

Hotshot – please no more. EIther find a reason for Alcide & Debbie to be in the story or put them away, please.

    • TeamSookie says:

I like Sam a lot but for a while his storylines haven’t interested me much but this ep he was FANTASTIC! He seriously nailed it, the walk, his facial expressions and even his voice were so much like Tommy. I only wish we could get more of Tommy as Sam.

Jessica is another one, I love her but this season wasn’t that interested with what was going on with her. This episode though I really liked her.

I’m glad we also saw Sookie interact with more people. I like the Sookie that goes out and investigates things on her own, remembers she’s a telepath lol, spends time with her brother. Last season, Sookie didn’t have interaction with half the cast.

  5. JoJo says:

Finally a knock down drag out with Bill and Eric, even though we know Bill is to young to take him on, he still goes for it! Just like a jealous man!
Whether Bill and Sookie are making out or fighting, they have awesome chemistry. Great line from Bill. I LMFAO with that one. And Sookie called him on the carpet for his roving fangs. These two together are f*cking great.
In the end I was all about Bill. Great ending, seeing him on the porch. Myriad expressions on his face. He let Eric go because it was the right thing to do and if it makes Sookie happy, then it is what he will do.
Bill is always about Sookie, even though it sometimes may not seem so on the outside.

Sookie and Eric was pretty downplayed, but Bill and Sookie hot graveyard sex must have had a hot tube visit, so why not a shower scene after marsh pond sex? LOL
    who knows?

I thought Sam was also great this episode. And I am glad jason is not a were, but I kinda knew Jessicas blood would not let him turn, then we find out you have to be born that way.
So the hotshoters are even dumber than we thought, LOL, doesnt surprise me. But what if Jason has a few pups or kittens come out of his rape???
    Dumb and dumber? LOL

Not feeling the Alcide SL either. Waste of time.

  6. Emma says:

“tell Sookie I was born the night she found me”

    :sob:

I love that line…. Love the whole thing. Have to keep reminding myself it’s all a script…. So romantic. So perfect.

  7. Lizzie1701 says:

I did not see Bill as you portrayed in your recap, Jess. You made him like he was a jerk, to be humiliated for what he was feeling . Not appreciated, since you claim to be neutral further down the recap.

This episode was not about Sookie and Eric fucking to me – it was all about Bill and the turmoil he was going through and his eventual ‘climb’ to humanity, in that he did make a choice, whether it was the right one has to be yet seen (going by future plot lines), and for Bill to ascend. I think Eric still has his manipulative skills in force, even in an amnesiac state, and he played those skills and hit Bill’s buttons very well. People should listen to Bill and not regard him as a jerk – he was right on the money about the witches and the danger but we have stupid people like Nan, Pam, Sookie and whoever belittling Bill and not taking him seriously. Maybe Eric and Pam are not a threat at the moment, but I think they will be. Poor Bill – you just should have staked Eric but then there would not be any future plot lines, lol.

As we see, Bill made a big mistake letting Pam go – looks like Tara and Naomi are going to be unhappy. Pam just does not learn by her mistakes. She is the one that should be ridiculed for being a complete jerk and I’m glad she will be getting some pain in a future ep. By Pam saying those things to Eric just shows how petty she is.

All in all, most of the plot lines were great. Loved how Sam took off Tommy – that man is such a great actor and does not get enough attention – same as with Ryan, because you know – it’s all about Team Bill and Eric – mainly Eric.

Did anyone think it odd that after Sookie gets ejected from Bill’s house, that she acts completely not caring about Eric and his fate with Bill? She has a nice cosy moment with Jason and then goes looking for him, and not one bit of worry about Eric. HMMMMM!!!!!

Also, thought the fanfic love scene just that! Fanfic! I thought Eric looked like a stick insect and no wonder they had to film it from afar because it was awkward! I mean – when he was kissing her ribs, he would have been humping her leg!!! It was so funny – his position was so out of place. Comes with being so tall and the girl being so short – it really looked awkward for both of them and after hearing that statement from Alex saying that Anna was like his little sister, and it required a lot of acting, it really did not do a thing for me.

Sookie was just lying there! No real movement other than her hand on his back – just like she did with Bill. Also, her face looked possessed – she was looking at the moon at the same time as Bill – I wonder if they were both in the same ‘zen’ moment??? Feeling each other? I would have expected her to be involved with the love making – she was no better than that Katrina, who Bill was shagging – just lying there and in it for the ride.

All in all it was good episode and a GREAT Bill episode! Showing us that Bill is certainly “growing’ up and reshaping himself, trying to be a better person. Sookie? Keep on trying girl – you have a long, long way to go. Gran gave you advice, girl, and you did not listen. Shame on you but I guess you will pay the price.

  8. Lisa says:

Wow Lizzie let Sookie have fun with temporary Eric.Like sookie said Bill has definitely been having sex with other women so people should stop judging her for having moving on as well. And i believe Bill was acting on his own behalf in letting Eric go, he’s still very much in love with her and he knew killing Eric would mean no chance in hell of getting her back.

    • Lizzie1701 says:

You misunderstand me, Lisa. I have no love for Sookie – I do not care who she does. What I care about it Bill. I hate it when he is called dork or a liar or whatever! Others have done as worse or if not more but it is always Bill that gets the blame or the ridicule. I don’t need that in a episode recap.

To me, Sookie has done MUCH worse than Bill and is never to be redeemed to me. By fucking Bill’s worst enemy only 5 days after professing love to Bill is shameless and much worse than what Bill has ever done and excuse me – she is pretty good on the lying stakes as well.

I hope AB never has Bill and Sookie together again. At least Bill is trying to redeem himself – Sookie has a long way to go.

Remember what Pam said to fake Eric? We used to go killing, fucking and laughing together – well, that does not make Eric a very likable fellow as well, but I don’t see any ridicule or bringing up his past to damn him – do you? Or ridicule.

      • TeamSookie says:

Being neutral does not mean you only praise people. Being neutral also means that when you think a person is wrong you say so. Sometimes a person can think Eric is wrong and at other times that Bill is wrong. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and yes sometimes it doesn’t always match our own but that’s life, we can’t get upset whenever someone has a different perspective than our own.

People call Eric all kinds of names too, and I’m sure others don’t like it but it won’t stop others from voicing that opinion will it? It happens and every character gets bashed.

Yes, I get that the show was about Bill for YOU and many others. But it can’t be said that it’s the same for others. For some of us, it was about Eric and Sookie and even other characters too such as Sam, Jason and Jessica, and etc. We all are going to have different views and nothing wrong with that. I would never tell you that you are wrong for saying this episode was about Bill because I am sure from your POV it was.

They’re all gonna have their turns at being wrong, being jerks and doing some messed up things. It’s a tv show and about entertainment. Nothing to be emotional about.

        • eloradannen says:

It is a little like Pot…Kettle…Black isn’t it? To say one character is being treated unfairly while completely bashing another? I admit that I do look at everything from Eric’s POV, but I try hard to be fair to the other characters. That doesn’t mean I need to be complementary to a character if I feel they don’t deserve it. But I do try to go by what I see, how I interpret it and what I think the writer’s are trying to say with the material.

Bashing just for the sake of bashing is never right for any of the characters. And it doesn’t really solve anything, people are going to like who they are going to like..period. It is so much nicer to discuss what we are seeing and discovering what certain things mean. There is so much there to figure out and I think some get so tied up with the romantic aspect of it, that they miss alot of other things about it. Popcorn for thinking people as AB would say.

          • Lizzie1701 says:

Was not bashing. Just sick of Bill being ridiculed and treated like a fool.

          • TeamSookie says:

Lizzie-There are also lots of people who love Bill and praise him. Eric gets bashed all the time too, I see it everyday on so many sites, are you telling me that if an Eric fan tells you they are tired of Eric being ridiculed that it will change your mind and even stop you from voicing your opinion about Eric.

It’s a show, they are fictional characters and some people are going to love Bill and some are not. All that matters is how you view him. No matter what we say, it’s not changing anybodies mind because I’m sure no matter what Eric fans say, it won’t change your mind.

It’s never going to stop. Bill is going to continue to get bashed, Eric is going to continue to get bashed, and so is Sookie and everyone else. I get annoyed too with how everybody is throwing Sookie under the bus now but no matter what I say, it’s not going to stop anybody lol. It’s part of the fandom where you have so many people with so many different POV’s.

          • Roswellover says:

            @eloradannen

You really shouldn’t be talking about the pot calling the kettle black.

            @Lizzie

I understand what you’re saying. You weren’t bashing, so why eloradannen thought you were is beyond me. I understand why you feel this way about Sookie. Even when she was with Bill, I started to dislike her. Some people are always dogging Bill, but what about Sookie? Sookie needs to change, she needs to grow up (she needs to be redeemed). I think Sookie has to much control over Bill. That’s one of the many reasons I want Bill to really move on. I know he’s trying. I’m glad Bill stood up to Sookie in this episode. I love the Bill character, and I’m glad he learned from his mistakes.

    • BillFan45 says:

Sookie is all about Sookie; the only thing that she was thinking about in the last episode was getting her “Happy Palance” filled by Eric. She had to know that screwing Eric was the way to hurt Bill on the deepest level possible. Eric did an adequate job in the sex scene, but I agree, there was no magic there.

Sookie is a user; she uses Bill; she uses Eric and she uses Sam whenever her life is in a mess. She ran to Bill when she wanted protection from Eric after she found out Eric owned her house; even though she was still nasty to him. She was cold to him even after he told her that he still loved her, and am I the only one to think she was pretty presumptious to walk right into Bill’s bedroom as if she had a right to after she dumped him like a piece of garbage? It is her fault if she found him with another woman; in fact, it serves her right.

Sookie had no right to go off on Bill about having sex with other women since she dumped him in a particularly vicious manner and the end of season 3. She left Bon Ton and Bill thought she was dead; was he supposed to be celibate for the rest of his life?

Given the circumstances of Marnie’s spell and the danger that necromancy causes for other vampires, the fact that Bill is Eric’s king, and the fact that he was ordered to find Eric, Bill had a right to know where Eric was. At that point, Bill had given no indication that he wanted to harm Eric; Sookie just naturally took Pam’s word for it. She should not have lied to Bill. Note that Eric caused the situation he is in when he decided to chew on Marnie; he could have handled the witches in a different manner, but he chose violence instead. (Typical Eric.)

Eric wasn’t the only one pushing Bill’s buttons; Sookie was doing a fine job of it too when she told him he was only worried that Eric would get in her pants. Telling her that his whole existance does not revolve around who or what is between her legs was priceless as was telling his guards to have her arrested if she trespassed. I would definitely like to see much more of that Bill.

This show is no longer about Sookie. She is nothing but a slutty twit. It is all about Bill and his attempts to rise above his vampire nature and be a good man.

I really hope they do NOT put Bill back with Sookie so soon. I don’t get the obsession with her by Bill. He nees someone much more mature than this little twirp.

      • Chelled says:

“This show is no longer about Sookie. She is nothing but a slutty twit. It is all about Bill and his attempts to rise above his vampire nature and be a good man”

Wow – I don’t even know where to start with this comment? Why is she a slutty twit? Because she slept with only the 2nd man ever in her life. How many women has Bill slept with indiscriminately as a vampire? Not to mention the funtimes that he and Lorena had back in the 1930′s. But Sookie’s the slut here huh? Men don’t even need to express their misogyny apparently, there are women who will label women as sluts for them. I thought this was 21st Century? *shakes head*

And honestly – the show is not about Bill. It just isn’t. Its about a telepathic waitress from Bon Temp who finds herself embroiled in drama and romance with Supes and humans. Maybe they’ll have the Bill Compton hour spin-off, and well I will be happy for you if they do. But for all the plotlines they throw at us with this show, its remains about Sookie. And it will be until the last credits role

    • flexy633 says:

Lisa, for Bill it has been over a year that he lost Sookie, so it is more natural for him to move on. In Sookie’s case, it’s only been a week since Bill broke her heart and she’s already falling in love with Eric? Come on…….

  9. Leif says:

Thanks so much Jess. Amazing, insightful and funny recap! Also very fair. Kudo’s :)

That final scene, lit up by the moon, shot from a distance …was beautiful!!
Connection, intimacy, eye contact, and longing. YUM!

For the show that never shies away from the graphic depiction of sex & nudity this was unprecedented. This was soft, tender, devoid of the frantic and the raunchy, reverent, loving, beautiful. We didn’t get closeups or any intrusive shots at all. We were observing something private and meaningful. Something truly special. The show couldn’t have been more clear about the emotional content of this coupling. I think it was all leading up to this moment since season 2.
I loved it so much. *squeee*

Sam Trammel as Tommy being Sam, OMG! That performance was Emmy worthy. They need to showcase Sam T’s acting talents more and more – he was just spectacular and I finally found myself enjoying this ‘side story’ for once. Bravo.

I thought Jess and Jason’s scenes were pretty great too. Jason’s character is so entertaining and fun…it was nice to see him with a bit more conscious ‘on’ and dick ‘off’. LOL.

    Love Pam so hard.
I lol’ed when Eric asked her if she was scared and she replied ” Fuck you! I’m pissed!”
Atta girl Pam. We love you just the way you are! :)

    • flexy633 says:

“That final scene, lit up by the moon, shot from a distance …was beautiful!!
Connection, intimacy, eye contact, and longing. YUM!”

Sorry, Leif, but are we watching the same show? Sookie was staring off into space and just laying there like she wasn’t even into it. Eric looked awkard and it appeared as if he were humping Sookie’s leg.

I know you Eric fans are going to like what you like, but try to be objective sometimes. No matter who I’m a fan of, I can admit when something they do is silly, awkward, or ridiculous.

      • TeamSookie says:

Staring off into space? the only time that happened it wasn’t that she was starting off into space but she turned her neck because he was kissing her neck so she had to turn and look that way.

      • DDR says:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I recall, when Bill fans were boasting him or defending him or unnecessarily taking a dig at Eric, nobody called them devoid of any objectivity. You could interpret everything as you please so do the other people like you said ‘everyone is going to like what they like’, which honestly, you just contradicted it.

      • Rina says:

Sookie was not staring off into space, and Eric was not humping her leg. I thought they were doing well considering it was their FIRST TIME together. I thought it was a nice tribute to the books for Eric to take his time and make love to Sookie thoroughly. It was a tender and romantic moment. And frankly Sookie wasn’t doing much in the books during this moment either–she was basically overwhelmed by the experience, and that’s what we see in this scene. (Any apparent awkwardness in body positioning is due to the difference in size between the actors. I hate to bring it up but if you are under 5.5, that’s probably what missionary with ASkars looks and feels like. lol)

  10. konfettii says:

I know this was The Big Sex episode but holy hell I can’t even think about this episode without shaking my head at Sam Trammel. AWESOME! I know everyone mentions his performance and rightly so.
I loved Andy’s honest and forthright ‘I misread the signs’. I’d go for a that guy.
That first scene after the intro was my favorite. I was fangirling like an idiot while Bill and Sookie argued. I was saying ‘Go Bil’! Then it was ‘oh, snap, point for Sookie’. And Eric looked damn good this episode…BUT…

Did not really like what I will forever call the ‘mosquito sex.’ Made worse by the fact Sookie bellowed ‘The mosquitoes are eatin’ me alive’ thirty seconds before Eric popped up. It ranks up there with the ‘dirt sex’. Maybe I’m past my romantic days but some things I can’t just NOT consider, even when hot vampires are involved.
I’m holding out hope that Alexander Woo pulls off a knock down, drag out, flying to the ceiling, mutual biting in the shower escapade next episode. I wanna see fangs and bloodletting and not the kind that come from swamp insects, know whadda mean?

    • Leif says:

! I do know what you mean. But as far as bloodsuckers go – the vamps have the mosquito’s beat hands down. LOL

    • Lividity says:

Darlin’, I do not believe this sex scene was over either.

I think this segment was really about Bill, even the far away camera and softness of it seems like it’s Bill seeing this, not Eric and Sookie. Latbfan actually made it clearer for me, this is how Bill might see/feel what is going on. I believe we’ll be seeing some up close emotions or sexytime next episode.

So yeah, I know what you mean ;)

      • bush piglet says:

most excellent call Lividity. Explains the disconnect really well. And also the Disney quality of it. Maybe it ws Bambi that ran off with Erics other leg!

    • Rina says:

I don’t think mosquitos bite vampires since they are cold-blooded, so with Eric on top, Sookie was well protected. lol

  11. Jacqueline says:

Sorry but I thought Bill was being an asshole at first but he redeemed himself. I truly believe he thought it was the right thing to do when he let Eric go. I also DO NOT believe Eric was being manipulative at all in saying the things he said. He’s NOT his usual I hate to admit feelings even if I do care about Sookie in my own way. this Eric was literally born again so he doesn’t know that even though he starts to fall for this woman he will never say it out loud the way Bill would’ve. So this “new side” says those things out loud. He is happy in this state of not knowing what he’s done. When he says he rather die than live like this not being able to defend himself that was meaningful. He wants Sookie to be happy period. Both men do no matter what or who makes them that way. Amnesia Eric is just saying all the things he wouldn’t dare say out loud “as himself”, but feels. I so not think he’ll be a danger at all later on. Except to the witches who put the spell on him. I personally loved the ending and the song. Great recap. But all the accusations about Bill having ulterior motives in letting him go and Eric having ulterior motives in saying the things he said I think are not true at all. I think both men meant both actions and were sincere. I also think Sookie was worried about Eric but knew there’s nothing she could do about it. It was vampire stuff. She was told she’d be arrested if she went back to Bill’s. And she went to Jason for help with Bill but he had his own problem too that she was trying to help him with. She was trying to be a good sister and she had a lot to deal with. You could tell she was worried about him by her reaction to his release. She was relieved and happy to see him.

  12. Lividity says:

I hope y’all have seen where we are now – into the fourth season & all. As I’m reading the recap and looking over the comments, and of course, putting into perspective all the Team wars that we’ve been through over the years… it seems that we have two guys (ok, vampires, let’s not quibble) that truly love this blonde cutiepi small-town waitress. I think SHOW is doing a great job of getting us riled up and interested in what happens next. I cannot hate Eric or Bill. And I invite anyone that feels the same to talk about what is going on without sniping and fighting each other to the ground like hummingbirds – have you ever seen a hummingbird fight? Google it if not.

Sometimes Eric will be the bad guy, sometimes it will be Bill. I guess maybe Alcide and other dudes, but y’all know that’s beyond the point I”m making.

I think we all could really have some great conversations about what the writers are doing to our characters (’cause you just know it’s not the same as CH) without being nut balls. Anyone in? I think we have a good start already.

    • cer says:

      Amen, Lividity.
I have a vamp that I favor, but I don’t hate the other vamps, nor the other main cast (though some of the others may annoy me from time to time).
This is fiction/fantasy, not real life. it is a break from real life I enjoy spending some down time trying to figure out what the AB and company intend with the story line and the characters, it’s a nice relaxing brain exercise.
The sniping that has been going on (again) is depressing because it’s totally unnecessary. I’m about ready to join Team Bellefleur. Or just to be ornery, Team Quinn (since he’s not even on the show).

      • Lividity says:

Hurrah! Team fucking Chicago for the win. I mean really, I don’t really hate the White Sox, I mean.. who really thinks of them anyways ;)

Seriously, I think we’ve got a good group of people here, probably one of the only communities that don’t just agree with each other on each post. I love to hear the diversity and I love when people pick apart the episode and see different things.

I hope we can continue to be this weird experiment… I guess that’s all I’m saying ;)

Also, there’s always more room on the Bellefluer Bus.

    • Persephone says:

I’m in for that. That’s actually why I decided to post in here instead of other sites with a message board where I could go a bit more nuts with my theories– this was the place with the least amount of sniping and “Team ___” animosity going on among the members. I’m not interested in ‘shipping arguments or trying to prove what character is “better” or going to “win” or whatever. I just want to discuss this show with other people who love it and think it’s as much fun as I do without having to deal with nasty comments about what fictional vampire is going to wind up with the fictional faerie waitress. Life’s stressful enough without that sort of thing.

If I’m on any team, it’d be Team True Blood.

      • Lividity says:

Welcome Persephone! I’ve been reading your posts and I must say that your contributions are some of the ones that I enjoy each day since you’ve been posting. We started this site because we wanted a place to share ideas and discuss what we thought the creators were doing, (because really, we all thought what we were seeing was deeper than what might be found in the books – or not, depending).

Sometimes we get sidetracked, I’m not immune to that either, but I hope we can retain the idea that we all share love of the same TV show and discuss using the best of what tools we have.

Anyway, Jess did a mash up job with the recaps. Recaps are the hardest I think of all the postings we do. So, if you agree or don’t, please do understand Jess worked her arse off to offer it to us.

And I think she’s done well.

        • Persephone says:

Thank you, I just realized I never formally introduced myself. Sorry about that, I was too excited to start talking with other True Blood fans. =)

And my comment here wasn’t related to Jess’s (wonderful) recap, it was more a reaction to some of the commenters’ posts I’ve seen recently. I enjoy all the postings the people running the site do and recaps are very hard with a show that has this many storylines. Jess does a great job of getting to the crux of each story and making it entertaining and fun to boot.

          • Lividity says:

No formality required. We’re delighted you’re here.

We do what we can. I’m sure Jess won’t mind if we’re here, in her recap. I almost find it fitting, because in this episode, I discovered again, that I started imaging (more than before, much like season 1) that there was so much more than what we see on the surface in this show.

    • eloradannen says:

Hi Liv….I am so for this. I love the idea of just having good conversations without all the other stuff. And sometimes we do come close and sometimes it is impossible…and often I retreat..lol. I just think there are so many interesting things to talk about with TB. So many hidden clues. To me, it is not all about the romance, though I do love that…to me there is so much more. Like symbolism, paralells, foretelling, hidden meaning in phrases…etc. I think all that is so interesting.

We just have to get some to understand that discussing what you are seeing and talking about what it means is not bashing..regardless of who the character is. And that it is okay to have a different interpretation. I am all in for this

    • Konfettii says:

      Here here.
I’ll be brutally honest, nowadays I read a few lines in a post to guage the tone. If it’s cliche’ hate, I scroll down. Saves my time and sanity.
What pisses me off is that I sometimes find myself feeling guilty if I post about only one character, for fear of being labeled. Not sure when being ‘fair’ was suddenly and irrovacably tied to being ‘equal’, but just like in the news, sometimes there’s only one dude to talk about that has something going on. *shrug*

  13. Comptonian says:

“Super-villains” SMILE when they contemplate offing a captive hero.

  14. Comptonian says:

Actually, Bill saying he has orders is not a lie, the warrant is “orders”. I don’t think Eric had any doubt about who’s recommendation they were issued on, but Bill saying he had orders was saying he had official approval.

    • hdgcat says:

Actually, Bill was doing a typical vampire thing: technically speaking the truth, but lying in spirit and it was obviously eating him up before AE started his little speech.

I’m surprised no one has commented on the fact that Bill didn’t do what he did with theprevious execution. Bill could have rid himself of the doubt and just told his goons to take Eric downstairs and execute him without Bill having to be involved . Then he wouldn’t have to worry about getting Eric goo on his nice manicured lawn.

But he didn’t. he took Eric outside and was going to take care of it personally. So even as angry, jealous as he was he was displaying a respect for Eric and their relationship.

I haven’t seen anyone mention that.

  15. shocknawe says:

agree Liv – I find Bill an incredibly compelling character, and initially got hooked on the show because of him and his relationship with Sookie. Eric’s character has grown in the show and is a perfect rascal, a Viking vampire who loves what he is. Neither character is perfect, without flaws.

I have read the books – like what AB does with the show far better – like not killing Lafayette, creating Jessica.

Dreaded the amnesia plot, as didn’t like it in the books – thought it might be more interesting to make Sookie have amnesia, have her history erased and then let Bill and Eric go head to head. That if she were to fall for Eric it should be the vampire he is, not a conterfeit version of him. Had lunch today with a friend who loves Eric, could not wait for this season. Before I said a thing she lamented how much she dislikes the amnesia plot – that they’ve made Eric far to juvenile and provided Sookie with a mother role when she tells him to go to his room, for instance. I feel the same way and here was a serious Eric fan feeling this. Additionally she was very disappointed in the sex scene – after waiting so long. For me, knowing where S4 was going I hoped there would be a credible path to make the hookup believable and have felt that failed to happen. Hearing her view made me realize it wasn’t just my bias.

True Blood the show is not the books – it’s evolved into it’s own thing. If you love Eric or the idea of Eric and Sookie – I hope you got what you waited so long for. If you love Bill or the idea of Bill and Sookie – I hope you can enjoy the journey they are taking this season as well. There are other aspects of the show like the witches and Sam that are even more compelling than any love triangle at times & I find when you get too hung up on that you miss some really quality stuff.

The reality is, AB will not allow E/S to be happy for long, any more than he will allow B/S or Hoyt/Jessica or Jason/Crystal or Tara/girlfriend — it’s just not his nature.

    • Lividity says:

Well I agree – what we have here is not the books. And a lot of friends I watch with are from “both teams” (WTF is the Bellefleur love?) and really – I can see this whole thing from a lot of sides. From book readers, to HBO only darlings. We all have a different perspective. And quite frankly, I love that about us – the fans. I however, don’t want us to eat each other.

And call me melodramatic, (ok, no one had actually done that before) but this Neko Case song can be applied to both sides, and as I love the singer, I hope the song can behave as kind of a mediator for us all. We can all love that last scene, no matter what we take away from it.

I just want the meanness to end. I love this show. It’s so hard to read the comments that are meant to bruise.

… and I wish I was the moon tonight.

    • hdgcat says:

I’m with you. I was never a huge fan of Amnesia Eric and would have loved to have seen Sookie be the one with amnesia ..even better…with her telepathy turned OFF! Take about a dilemma cuz then curing the spell would entail givng her back a curse of her existence.

Now that would have been compelling tv.

and yes, watching bill and Eric boht be pushed back to the starting line would have been funny stuff. I would have enjoyed that.

  16. Roswellover says:

    Jess,

Overall I liked your recap. However, I disagree on some of the things you said about Bill. In the begining jealousy was one of the reasons he was doing it, but in the end he did the right thing. Bill wasn’t lying when he said he had orders to kill Eric (maybe you need to watch the episode again). Its obvious that you missed all the emotions that Bill was experiencing. You claim to be nuetral, but from your post it doesn’t seem like it.

  17. Lividity says:

Thank you to Jess for getting this recap out while jet lagged, and also to Jody & Krystal_skyi for rescuing my arse whilst I had to do real life.

Y’all what this site is all about…

  18. Julie says:

Am I the only one that thinks Mikey’s eyes are black as coal? Like the black contacts in season 2?

  19. Jess says:

    :o

Why are so many people thinking I was mean to Bill?!

    • Lizzie1701 says:

Jess, the first part of your recap seems like you are ridiculing Bill and as Roswellover said, I don’t think you got his emotions. I don’t think you ‘got’ Bill.

The rest of your recap was very good.

  20. Jess says:

And the fact that this is coming off as Eric-partial is actually surprising me. Maybe its in the way certain people are reading this. So partial to one team that it seems like I’m being partial to the other?

Keep saying whatever you want though guys, I’m loving all the comments. I just wanna do the best recaps possible, so if I’m unintentionally doing something that actually is making you not enjoy them as much, that I will try and fix. :)

    • Lividity says:

Darlin’, please don’t take this all personally. You’re doing a killer of a job on the recaps. Seriously… I am sorry that people are team like…

    • TeamSookie says:

Jess-I think you are doing an excellent job and I love reading your recaps. I think the most important thing is that you express however YOU viewed this show. Yes at times not everyone will agree with your perspective but all you can write about is your own view and not anyone else’s. You just have to stick to whatever you feel and be honest. I think if you try to censor your opinion and start worrying what others might think, the writing suffers too so it’s better to just do you. You can’t please everyone, all you can do is be yourself.

    • ZZ says:

Your recap is excellent. There’s a few readers here that are really obsessed and paranoid about anybody trying to “attack” their idol.
I’ve been attacked a lot of times, so was Liv and Jody. So do not worry, it’s something that happens from time to time when hormones are high.
I’m crazy for Bill Compton and I don’t feel he was attacked at any point. You make fun of all the characters and that’s what it should be. It’s a vampire crazy sexy show ;)

    • Konfettii says:

Jess, I love you recaps! There are 3-4 I try to read religiously every week, from various sites, a few that are very solidly ‘team’ oriented, which I do NOT see in yours.
I don’t want a blow-by-blow account of the episode without any inflection from the writer, if that was the case, every darn reciew/recap would be exactly the same. *Yawn* The various emotions, perspectives and personal tidbits from the writers are the best part for me. I adore it when something is pointed out that I missed, or somene has a different take on a charcter or scene.
      You’re doing fanatstic! Brava!

    • TBObsessed says:

Meh, like others have said, don’t worry about it! Some of the “team” types won’t be happy unless you totally worship one vamp or the other. God forbid you say anything remotely critical of “their guy!”

    • DDR says:

Yup, don’t worry Jess! Your recap is great and one of the few impartial ones. It’s quite apparent that there’s no character, immune to your occasional jabs. ;D

    • Snuffles says:

Jess, count me on board with those who loved the recap! This episode was one of my favorite episodes ever so I’ve really been reading a lot of recaps and reviews for it just because each one takes my mind back to my favorite scenes (as if I haven’t watched it on DVR and youtube hundreds of times!) But your recap is definitely near the top of my list in the “good” category!

  21. Persephone says:

So it seems to me that another one of this season’s underpinning themes is temptation. All the characters have things coming at them that they want but on some level know they shouldn’t have and so far Bill’s been the first one (that I can recall off the top of my head) that resisted the easy thing and did the responsible thing. We’ve also seen less gratuitous gore and sex than I recall in previous seasons, and in turn it seems like the writing is really focusing on staying character-driven. Am I right in thinking this? It’s been a bit since I watched the previous seasons in full so I’m going off my impressions so I might just be remembering the flamboyant/dramatic stuff.

  22. Waitin4afulmoon says:

I was waiting for the sheriff that looks like Michael Vick/Chris Tucker and Blackburn again but they never showed up this episode. Too much going on I guess, but I like to see them all together. I read somewhere that Blackburn is supposed to be bloodthirsty. He must be here to make up for Eric this season.lol Also my son doesn’t even watch the show with me (he’s 18 and watches it on demand the next day so he doesn’t make too much noise and bother me while it’s on), but he sent me a video of some reviewers calling Sookie a “ball thief”, because she tends to emasculate the men in her life. He didn’t know what it meant, but I laughed for a long time at someone elses take on Sookie and the power she has over men. I also took that opportunity to help my son make sure it doesn’t happen to him. A mothers work and all…..

    • Purpleprince says:

“calling Sookie a “ball thief”, because she tends to emasculate the men in her life”

      OMG that is funny.

    • hdgcat says:

I’ve been saying thsi since season 2. She totally owns Bill’s *ss . If she told him she’d get back with him if they ran away together, he’d throw that crown in Nan’s face and leave.

      that’s ownership baby , LOL!

  23. niknak says:

Jews I think you did a wonderful job on the recap and on previous ones as well! Teamers will always take offense even when you neutrally give out the jabs- which are totally spot on if you ask me! Either way, keep it up I love ‘reading’ the show from your POV!

  24. Kate Thinks You're Lovely says:

Another fabulous, funny recap, Jess! Word of the day: Flanaganagans.

I hope you’ll continue to recap the show *you* see; different perspectives are what make a conversation.

  25. niknak says:

Darn smartphone- I meant Jess not Jews, sorry bout that!

  26. Waitin4afulmoon says:

I’m glad we weren’t supposed to formally introduce ourselves…because I didn’t. But I do think your right Persephone, it is still very character driven, which is why we still watch. When the characters are predictable and the show hands us exactly what we ask for, I don’t think it’s worth watching. If I can write it at home, why am I paying for HBO? I like to see how others see the characters, hence reading the posts and watching the show. The fact that a show about mythical creatures can evoke an emotional response in me is credited to great writing and acting. And I wanna be team Mikey, do you see that adorable babies nose? Even if he is a little evil, he’s freaking cute!

  27. eloradannen says:

Jess, I think you are doing a wonderful job at writing your recaps. You must not change what you are doing because you are calling it as you seen it and being very entertaining in the way you write. All great reviewers have their critics..right? There are always going to be those who can’t agreed with anything and want things written to their tastes. But that is not what a review is. That is fanfiction..lol. So anyway, keep writing, stay true to yourself and again, you are doing a good job!

  28. KayJay says:

Jess enjoyed your recap. As someone mentioned previously other sites can be so superficial, snarky and negative. Real downers. I love this site because it attracts people who think, have rational, interesting and insightful things to say. I get even more enjoyment out of the shows by reading all the comments here and am often made aware of things I missed or didn’t appreciate at the time I was watching the episode. Life is short. I only have time for quality these days – which is one of the reasons this episode was the best. The quality of the acting was phenomenal. Blew me away. There really should be some award nominations here!

Off topic. But is anyone else enjoying the little references to each other that Charlaine Harris and the TB writers are doing? In her last book (not the one that’s coming out this year) when the story is taking place in Merlott’s CH mentions the music playing in the background as being ‘Bad Things’ by Jace Everett. And in this TB ‘Moon’ episode Sookie is sitting in the kitchen reading a Charlaine Harris book.

Also love all the weird little throwaway lines in each episode. This time it was Jason saying something about the weird cult in the Mall, Pentagram Stretch pants.

  29. You Go girl says:

    A. Both Bill and Eric do love Sookie (neither of them are a hero or a villian in the tradtional sense of the words)

    B. This is really a story about Eric and Sookie ( You can be “Team Bill” all you want but it ain’t gonna happen) She will end up with Eric or nobody in the end

    C. Bill was a necessary character to get Sookie into the vampire world

    D. Even though Sookie may have feelings for Bill, she will not ever go back to him because some things are unforgivable (the beating and the reason he found her in the first place)

    E. AB has tried to change the story enough so the book readers would really think that the Eric/Sookie romance would not take place and it worked. He took on the series long after the fourth book was written and new where it was headed…I truly believe that he “knows” Charlaine Harris’s intentions with the ending and I believe that his will be very similar to hers

    F. I truly believe that all “Team Bill” have not read the books because I was the same until book 4. This series is based on those books and it may deviate some but the heart of the series will follow the books, otherwise AB could have made a similar series with different character names and wouldn’t have had to go into a contract with Charlaine Harris and paid her all that moolah…

    • shocknawe says:

This is precisely the type of comment that gets people all fired up. This is your view and you are entitled to express it – it’s HOW you express it. The “it’s all about Eric” and (the implied) stupidity of people who like Bill who can’t possibly have read the books. I’ll attempt to rebutt without inciting anger.

If I recall right, in 8 CH books, E/S were only together part of one book while he had amnesia. After book 4 she moves on to Quinn. In the last book E/S are broken/breaking up. If you compare book to book, E/S and B/S were together a similar amount of book time. I struggle with the concept FROM A BOOK PERSPECTIVE that one vampire is meant to be with her over another. On the TV show I believe a stronger relationship has been created between B/S thusfar.

True Blood the TV show has taken different directions than the books, as you say. CH has stated in more than one interview that she “knew” who Sookie would ultimately end up with in Book One. Eric was not a factor in book 1 and she has also said she didn’t believe a vampire could make Sookie happy in the end. That confuses me and kind of leaves me with thinking maybe her intent was to have Sookie end up with Sam?

This is really a story about Sookie, not about Eric and Sookie or Bill and Sookie – it’s the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Why is what Bill did any more unforgiveable than Eric standing and allowing Longshadow to attack Sookie, or torturing Lafayette, or leaving her to be raped in FOTS, or tricking her into drinking his blood? Both have committed sins against Sookie. What is and is not forgivable is far more complicated. How can a person forgive someone who kills their child? I don’t think I could but there are those who do.

As has been said in earlier posts, this is a complex story with mulit-layered characters. To simply pronounce Bill is bad, it’s all about Eric or Eric is bad, it’s all about Bill – or to imply that anyone who doesn’t agree with your point of view is blind or stupid gets just pisses everyone off.

I’m a Bill fan and I say, “HOORAY” if Sookie doesn’t wind up with Bill. Bill is too good for her and he should find a more well put together, mature, sexy, and intelligent woman (not little girl).

It’s a darn shame Portia was related to him cuz they might have worked. She could have been the power behind the throne as it were. She’d have Nan pegged in two seconds

        • Purpleprince says:

I am still confused why they even had Bill sleep with Portia. Except to make Bill feel gulity about one more thing in his life. It didn’t add anything for me except getting to see Stephen naked from the chest up displaying those lovely arms.
They could have just left them professionals colleagues and still showed they were related. And then to glamour her to run and scream. Was just stupid writing. Perhaps they will add more later? Is Portia gone now?

      YouGoGirl,

      A. Bill loves Sookie and so does Amnesia Eric

      B. Really I thought for 3 seasons it was about Bill and Sookies love with the real Eric mixed in the middle. Only this season do we see (and it was only the last few episodes) that Amnesia Eric and Sookie have what appears to be feelings. And to think that if Sookie doesn’t end up with Eric she will be with no one is just crazy. Have you been watching/reading Sookie? She has dipped her foot in the man pool plenty. I doubt she will just dry up and wither away without Eric loving. My money in the books is Sam, in TB its anybodys guess. Although my hope is she started with the best man (Bill) she will end with the best man (Bill) but to each there own.

      C. Yep you are correct. And Its Eric and Bill who keep her there.

      D. We’ll see if she goes back to Bill, heck she might like Alcide,Quinn or whoever else they decide to bring in once she departs from Amnesia Eric. She might never ever go back to Eric either. I am assuming TB somewhat follow her shenanigans from the book. To leave her with Eric would be dull.
Furthermore, about the beatings I believe there is still more to the story and if not Bill admitted it was true -both the reason he was there in the first place and the beatings. So its over and if Sookie can forgive the things the real Eric has done I see no reason for her to no forgive Bill. Hewk even Amnesia Eric drained her fairy godmother. Plus Sookie is no angel herself.

      E. Darn tricky AB, and I thought he was capitalizing on the chemistry between Anna and Stephen for 3 seasons. Appears to me he is still doing it, you saw the jealous cat fight in the foyer the other night right? Also CH ending may not be AB ending. Maybe since AB has Dvd media at his hands he can create an alternate ending to make the teams happy. I can pick which ending I would like and all will be right in the world

F.All of team Bill may have not read the books, and I assume not all of team Eric has either. Not everyone who watches the show reads the books. You don’t have to read the books or watch TB to enjoy the other. AB doesnt have 14 seasons to drive home his storyline.
You are right that AB could have created a series using different names but I guessing if he followed her storyline closely even with different characters her lawyers may have caught on…

First off all, the recap was good.

I was reading the comments. What’s the problem? I don’t think it was wrong for some people to state that they didn’t agree with what Jess said about Bill. I didn’t agree with what she said either, and I didn’t view it as them “attacking” her. I thought on this site it was ok to disagree? Oh boy, I better not post on this site because I know I’m not going to agree with everyone here, and I’ll be accused of “attacking” that person or ” being obesssesed and paraniod”…*shakes head*……..I can understand why some people stay away.

People aren’t going to have the same opinions. Doesn’t this site want to hear all points of views?

Let me make something VERY clear to you. When I come to this site and want to make a comment, I use MY username (Roswellover). I’m NOT the only one that uses my computer, I’m NOT the only one that loves this show, AND have made comments on this site. I post more often, but like I said when I have something to say I use my username. So, what you’re accusing me of is false! Thank you very much!!!

        Bye

Jess, I loved your recap. *What* Bill bagging? Huh? But hey, yoo-hoo all you Eric-lovers, come pick my eyes out for some unambiguous AE bashing.

I give this ep’s Golden Gong of Possession Acting to ASkars. Oh sure, there were those great power perfomances by Sam and Fiona, and Laf wasn’t bad as Tio Luca. But how can you top Alex as Eric channeling a Hallmark greeting card copy writer? AND doing it with a straight face! And with kittens playing at his feet! I wanted to rip that giant bobbin out of its velvet case and stake him myself.

Didn’t Eric just make a tequila shooter of Claudine two eps ago? Now he doesn’t want to bad things to me or you or his liege (he remembered the word liege? Vikings weren’t feudal) . Happy to die with love in his heart, though, reborn and everything. What exactly doesn’t he remember about vampire life? None of the rules about Makers, and yummy blood and fang fighting and lese majeste, apparently, but a few days with Sook and he’s a one-man vampire counterculture. Damn hippies :-)

Apart from the Eric-schmaltz, I mostly liked this ep, on a deeply shallow level. Loved Bill especially, and Marnie/Antonia and Sam/Tommy.

Bit crowded in those woods, though, wasn’t it? And, to use Persephone’s zingy phrase, the wash-rinse-repeat Sookie, oblivious to the life lessons of three seasons of supes and near-death experiences, runs off into the woods (yet again) armed with her Magic Shotgun. So magic she cold take down a few squirrels, before the vampires and werewolves and possibly a replacement fairy godmother catch up with her. But it’s Sookie’ lucky full moon, because all that befalls her is a boring conversation with her brother and mosquito sex with a gorgeous greeting card salesman.

LOL! OMG I am still laughing~! Thanks for that Acanthus!

    • hdgcat says:

      LOL!

Oh many, you and Jess should work on recaps together. we’d all have to wear diapers when we read them!

Actually, I’ve seen a few Eric fans who aren’t liking the AE as much as thought for exactly what you just siad. TB AE isn’t like Book AE , who still had his basic vampire juju intact , he just lost memory of his experiences.

      “wash rinse repeat” Sookie

      *sigh*…so tru so true….

    • Mirela says:

No “Team” stuff please. Just a few observations and opinions..

Thank you Jess for an entertaining recap.

The Jessica/Hoyt/Jason arc is great. Three excellent actors playing three rich characters. Love it! Ball has created a story that to me rings true and natural for these three. Who do I want Jessica to wind up with?!?

I too felt Raelle Tucker dropped the ball with the Eric execution speech. I felt it emasculated the character . Alexander Skarsgard is a fine actor and I think he the best given the material he had to work with.

      Sam Trammel was outstanding!

I don’t think much of the baby Mikey story. Does this make me officially cold hearted? At this point it does not grab me . Maybe it will but for now I am not sold.

The witch arc has me under its spell (sorry, I couldn’t help myself ). Ball and his henchmen have crafted an intense story that makes me feel like I am on a seesaw. I started out feeling anger but now after seeing the rape scene I feel for the character. Needless to say Fiona Shaw is magnificent and I imagine the best is yet to come from Marnie/Antonia!

@ Lividity – I agree it is hard to read the comments that are meant to bruise but after following this site for a while I recognize the posters that imho are mean spirited so I skim or pass over their comments entirely. Kinda sad but it works for me.

    • Acanthus says:

Thank you, kind and generous ladies,;=) Look, I know it’s a bit unkind of me to sneer at scenes that a lot of wonderful TB/Bookie fans have long awaited. Sometimes,it’s not enough to suspend disbelief: you have to poleaxe it. Even so, The Forest of Arden (Atdent?) and the execution stuff were a heavy double dose. Disbelief got up and poured itsself a stiff drink

  32. Purpleprince says:

I just started posting on this website, I have been lurking about a year though. I am upfront that I am a Bill lover, and I will defend him, but I think I try and see the Eric lovers side. If a poster says something I don’t agree with or I want a further information..I ask. I thought that is what this forum was for to talk about how we view these character? I don’t always agree, sometimes an Eric Lover makes me see it from there POV, sometimes we just agree to disagree.

This board can’t be a roses and petals otherwise it would be boring. We can have different opinions and still be nice about it. I can say something snarky about the character of Eric in a joking manner but it doesn’t mean I don’t respect others opinions on how wonderful they think Eric is.

    • Lividity says:

Yeah, no one is saying opinions aren’t welcome. The main thing, I think is to discuss our opinions about the show with a sense of humor and not take our love (or hatred) of one character too seriously.
