Tony the prostitute had the misfortune of resembling the late, great Talbot. Staking a vampire seems like a quick-enough way to go (how much can it hurt to be reduced to a stringy puddle goo in the blink of an eye?), but staking a human is a far more slow and painful end. While it was incredibly touching that Russell mourned Talbot so much (“You saved me from the world… from myself… I am more sorry than I can ever say”), seeking out a look-alike for the sole purpose of saying the things he wished he could’ve said to Talbot, and then holding his hand and cuddling him as he’s dying, is genuinely disturbed. But even as I cringed away from the horror of it, I felt such compelling sympathy for Russell and Talbot (all over again). Rest in peace, Tony the prostitute.

I hope Tony does rest in peace, though it will sound terrible to say – I didn’t really care about him all that much. The scene, while somewhat cringe-worthy, had me really feeling sympathy for and was all about Russell and Talbot. It was clear how much Russell loved Talbot and realized that he didn’t perhaps always appreciate his royal consort.
Sex workers definitely aren’t safe around Russell! I guess Tony hadn’t caught the news for the past few hours.
I mean, really! You’d have to be living under a rock not to have seen KRE’s photo all over the news and newspapers.
Meh. No sympathy for Tony the prostitute. He wasn’t a third as good looking as Talbot, whom it was nice to see there at the end. I felt so bad for Russell as he poured his heart out to a Talbot substitute.
Poor Tony, he probably just wanted to get some money for some smack and be on his way. Well, at least he kicked his drug habit. Thanks Lat!!! RIP Tony the prostitute.
Very true Tincar …bit drastic mind but effective !
Thoughtful, gentle , spot-on obit,as always, latbfan. I must watch this scene again to take it all in, but I don’t really want to. The tragic elegy was so at odds with the degradation of the situation that I couldn’t concentrate. And seeing Talbot’s face again was a mixed thing for me: a split second of happy recognition, then a pang, realizing he won’t come around again.
Sorry Tony, :::sign of the cross::: the whole bit.
In my opinion, the whole Tony and killing him bit for Russell was great! It was great release! And in some ways, it’s blood magic. I bet the message reached Talbot where ever he may be. I thought it was great blood magic even though no one in the audience – save for someone who’s studied some dark arts – would have known or caught the reference. It’s not just madness. Not sure if that’s what Ball had in mind, but that’s what I got when I watched the scene. I wasn’t disgusted, I was awed.
ugh.. and agreed, Tony is SO not even a fraction of a fraction close to Talbot in looks, brains, and elegance. This guy couldn’t hold an unlit match to Talbot.
