Rest in Peace, Sacrificial Rattlesnake

snake rest in peace In exchange for his help, Jesus’ grandfather sends him out into the night to wait for a sacrifice, and it is a rattlesnake that presents itself. Dear ol’ granddad has it bite Jesus to force Lafayette into realizing his inner magic, and Jesus is saved when Lafayette stops resisting his power. We all knew that Lafayette was the one with the juice, and Jesus knew it. Apparently, Grandfather knew it too. Lafayette was the only one who didn’t, and Jesus could’ve become the sacrifice had that little experiment not gone well. I’m glad Jesus is still with us, but the catalyst for all that realization and saving was thrown, still alive, into the fire. That’s one heck of a brutal lesson… Rest in peace.

Poor snake. After my profession of love for sharks earlier I’m going to come across like an even bigger weirdo by saying I love snakes too. Burning alive is a bad way to go for anyone, although I’m sure its sacrifice will be appreciated later in the season when we finally get to see where this Lala stuff is going.

I’m not a snake lover, but I thought throwing it alive in the fire was rather cruel! He could’ve killed it first. What can you expect from a guy who made his young grandson kill a goat on his birthday?

I like snakes, too. Very beautiful, I think, but of course equally repellent to many (Indiana Jones comes ot mind). Good choice of sacrifical animal. Another fanged creature goes up in flames.Okay, the snake didn’t meet the sun, but the allusion is there . And another angry spirit maybe, needs a host.

Is Abuelo the most evil-drenched character we’ve seen on TB? So much potential in the brujo plot, but why is it leaving me and others with a ho-hum feeling?

Great work, latbfan. You are frighteningly thorough with the death rolls. Havn’t you missed a few mosquitoes that got squashed in the forest tryst? ;-)

Snakes really are beautiful, and since AB modeled his vampires’ fangs after snakes, it does seem quite fitting that it was the rattlesnake who was sacrificed in an effort to fight off the vampires.

And in my defense, Acanthus, I did not (and don’t intend to) write a RIP for Terry’s ‘possum pronged penis charm. Or the dead animals on the walls in Merlotte’s. But I’ve always found it psychologically fascinating that Sam, a shifter, would have stuffed, dead animals on his walls…

I’m pretty sure the snake in the picture is actually a cornsnake but then again it would be far far too dangerous for an actor to handle an actual rattlesnake.

It’s always sad and disgustful when animals have to die in movies or on TV. No matter if dog or snake.
