After Eric’s “disappearance,” the remaining Louisiana Sheriffs are brought together in Bon Temps by King Bill. Only Luis had first-hand knowledge of the vampire-involvement with Antonia during the Inquisition, and his death convinces the others to take action to protect themselves against the power of Antonia. But their efforts only delay the inevitable. Even as vampires are evacuated from the great state of Louisiana and the remaining ones are forced to bind themselves in silver during the day, the Sheriffs fall victim to Antonia/Marnie’s power.
Blackburn may have looked like a computer geek, but he was 1,000 years old and a long-time acquaintance of both Eric and Bill’s. He was in favor of killing Marnie from the very beginning, agreeing with Pam that torturing her would have to do since they were forbidden to kill humans. During the Festival of Tolerance, he and the other Sheriffs are lured into a trap by Eric (under Antonia/Marnie’s control). After being set lose on the unsuspecting human crowd, Nan Flanagan stakes Blackburn with a pencil, providing another example of the pen being mightier than the sword.
Kirsch and Duprez both survived the Festival, but remained under Antonia/Marnie’s control. After regrouping at the Moongoddess Emporium, the Sheriffs are kept in the closet until Bill, Eric, Pam, and Jessica come to attack the group. The spelled Sheriffs are sent out to kill the king. Bill stakes Duprez, and Eric throws Kirsch into the protection spell, which burns her with the power of the sun.
Rest in peace, Sheriffs.

I am super curious to know how the state of Louisiana will move forward in regards to those in charge. Will there be new sheriffs? Ones hostile to our boys? Will Bill & Eric retain heir positions?
My guess is: yes and probably not. Unless there’s some serious rearranging of the vampire social structure, I can’t see the Authority leaving Louisiana short four sheriffs. With a bounty on their heads, I also can’t imagine Bill and Eric will retain their titles, either. Unless they’re kept instated as some sort of incentive for other vampires. “Kill the King of Louisiana and get bragging rights for eternity.”
I sort of like the game you’ve introduced. It’s like bounty hunters for a throne! It would please me very much to watch the contestants take on Bill and/or Eric for their positions.
Did I read this somewhere, or am I dreaming, that ,in the CH books, the crowns pass down in one of two ways:by inheritance (as in QSA inheriting the LA crown from her late husband the King), or by murder. You kill a king/queen, you get the crown. It sounds so, er Roman or Macedonian Empire. Is there something I’ve missed?
QSA got Arkansas in the books by marriage contract in the event of the king’s death. As far as murder…no clue. There was talk of QSA naming her progeny/lover Andre King of Arkansas so she could marry him…but I’ve only gotten as far as All Together Dead…and he is now out of the picture so I don’t know who will get the thrown or how.
yeah, this is like when Saddam’s regime was toppled, that sucking sound you hear is a power vaccum.
Bill needs to have a job fair or something. LOL!
I’d love to see those interviews .
hdgcat, they had the little clips of the stripper-interviews at Fangtasia. Maybe they’ll show Bill interviewing for new Sheriffs? Of course, I don’t know who in their right mind would want a job with such a high mortality rate. Even the undead must cringe at those statistics…
Wonder as to who are going to replace the 4 other sheriffs??
Only Sheriff that’s still around is Eric.
Who’s the resume to become a sheriff?
We’ve not really met any other vampires in Louisana who are quallified?
I’d love to see Salome become sheriff in Baton Rouge…those who’ve read the books will understand a very interesting storyline involving her…and I’d just love to hear her and Eric’s phone conversation from the books “Hello most beautiful Princess.” :)
Now THAT sounds interesting….
