Eddie was the saddest vampire we’ve ever seen. He was a sad, repressed human, and he carried his sad, repressed issues into his vampiric life. He sought out a Maker (obviously not a very ethical or conscientious one; I always assumed he paid the vampire who turned him) after coming out as gay and losing his family because of his revelation. He spent his brief, immortal life life trading his blood for intimacy with Lafayette (“You like me, don’t you Lafayette?”) and watching television.
When Lafayette refused to sell Jason more V and Amy’s stash ran dry they kidnapped Eddie (using Jason as vampire-bait) and kept him chained in silver in Jason’s basement. But Eddie’s goodness came through, even under such duress, and Jason opened up to him. Amy was never able to convince Jason about the rightness of keeping Eddie like a pet, and when Jason moved to set him free, Amy staked him (although I vehemently disagree with her assessment that Eddie would’ve killed them). Amy put his gooey, stringy, remaining chunks down the garbage disposal.
Although misguided, poor Eddie with his merlot and his candles and his Bangles CD (“Eternal Flame” is an ironically perfect song for vampire seduction), was a kind and gentle soul who deserved much much better than that. May he rest in peace.

I really liked the character of Eddie. He was a sweetie, and I loved the interaction between him and Lafayette, and then him with Jason. Stephen Root is an incredible actor. RIP Eddie, I miss you!
Yes, Eddie – you have my sympathy and I liked you. You were pathetic vampire, but in the same time you were very human… Rest in peace – you didn’t deserve what happened to you.
Stephen Root also appeared in 24, in which he played a nice guy who was brutally murdered by a psychotic woman! Sound familiar?
Poor Eddie, the only vampire who actually seemed decent and adhered to a diet of true blood.
Eddie was a really good guy and would have been a great role model and friend to Jason. He went before his time.
Dam you Amy Burley….**shakes fist**!
I agree BillsNia – Eddie did go before his time .Another great obit latbfan !
A terrific obit for a character that shouldn’t have had an obit, IMO. Eddie should have been kept as an occasional character, a reminder that vampires aren’t fit and fabulous and generally gorgeous per se: they can be sweet and plain, and sad, and not so good at things like glamouring.. And not psycho. (Eddie is also a wake-up call to all would-be vamps: get a personal trainer before you get turned.)
A huge fan of Stephen Root in anything. He does anything brilliantly: from powerful and eccentric Jimmy James in News Radio (very sexy part!) to a mousy Asberger’s-with-an-agenda loser in Office Space. He’s another Denis O’Hare – character actor with his own recognisable persona.
Sorry, just one more thing. Eddie also represented a new genre of vampire, those who arranged (paid) to be turned after the Great Revelation. Totally modern First World sensibility in this new class, relieved to have human/cruelty-free True Blood as sustenance, also probably disaffected, lonely, unattractive, or trapped in a life that’s not for them . Hello, Eddies of the night. Must be plenty of you out there. You should show up now and then on TB, just to balance the raging mediaevals
Ahww Eddie was very sweet!
R.I.P Eddie!
Wow. For the first time, I’m agreeing whole heartedly with Acanthus. Eddie should have been kept on for exactly those reasons Acanthus stated. He shouldn’t have died – period… no obit. We’ll miss you Eddie. I felt for him so much and really liked his mellow ways. I bet Lalah was a party for Eddie every time. Rest in Peace Eddie. He was a good, conscientious, albeit brooding soul. Still was really nice to see that in a vamp.
