We all knew Sam had skeletons in his closet. Sam is such a sweet, good guy, but there’s a darkness lurking under the surface, and with his memories of Charlene and Jon, we got a tiny taste of the burdens he carries. Poor Sam! Even then, he dreamed of a place he could call his own, and like everyone else, he just wanted someone to know him and to love him. a great guy considering how crap his life has been… Charlene would’ve killed him if she could (or what was left of him, as I imagine she’d already killed a piece of his heart and his humanity), and even then, when he instinctively shot back, he was horrified by her death. Sam killed Jon execution-style and presumably left the bodies in the woods, taking his money and Jon’s pants and fleeing the scene. While they certainly weren’t nice people, just taking out the trash as far as I’m concerned, their deaths continue to haunt Sam, who is a very good person. Rest in peace, Charlene and Jon, with the hope that Sam can find some peace too.
I am still in shock over the reveal of Sam’s sordid past! I imagine Sam has had a number of Charlene’s in his life and her betrayal was the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back”. Charlene’s death, while sad, really was self-defense. Jon’s murder though – truly eye-opening. Never would I have believed that Sam would have killed someone in cold blood (panic-induced yes, but murder nonetheless). These deaths have to been haunting Sam all of these years – causing him to be even more of a nice guy – and thus repeating the cycle of being taken advantage of. I’ll just echo your last line: “Rest in peace, Charlene and Jon, with the hope that Sam can find some peace too.”

LOL, funny how the two actors who played Charlene and Don ended up playing Vampires in the Vampire Diaries…..only to be killed again.

LaTBFan – you are so good. I hate these people but you manage to wish them peace anyway. Good riddance to them. Charlene didn’t deserve any of Sam’s love. Most of the things Sam has done was a reaction. He never went around trying to hurt people. I love Sam. He’s such a wonderful heart. In the books and the series. Sam is awesome!
