Burn the Witch

This week on True Blood, CE learns to spell Mississippi, a bunch of new characters but so far no fairies (thank God), Bill may recycle but he’s not kind to furry animals (unless its Sam, of course), Eric won’t gerroff Sookie’s porch until he gets to prove what a nice guy he is, sorta, the ugliest, skankiest pair of undies EVER, and what’s even better than a 52 inch plasma to the face?

I did wonder people, whether it was possible to be funny about this episode in my weekly recap because OMG, what a pit of despair and devious trickery our fictional friends have fallen into. They’re so not bothering with the amusing glimpses into the daily life of Bon Temps and Shreveport this year, we’re straight into everyone’s personal hell. Seriously, I think I might have joined Tara and necked a shitload of happy pills if it wasn’t for the gloriously ewwww dinner of blood (I’ve always wondered why vamps didn’t get bored and invent some fun recipes, so that was fricking sweet), and Terry B’s list of reasons why he’d make a good stepdad. And Bill all covered in icky werewolf, laughing at that Cooter guy cos his name is simultaneously tres redneck, and means the pussy. Aside from those flashes of LOL and the fun mind bending plots starting to unfold, it was kind of a ADD misery trip for me, especially with Mommy Dearest showing up at the end like a horsey bondage mistress, buzzkilling yet another party. Le sigh, her again?

I confess...Nazi Eric is hot.

While I loathe Lorena, I do have a respectful girl-crush on the lady who wrote this episode, Raelle Tucker, who is my absolute favourite True Blood scribbler due to her insane ability to walk the line between woe and misery, and wickedly witty shit. She is also very good at making characters you generally dislike show some sympathetic layers of personality to ensure you can’t write them off entirely. Last year the sneaky minx did it for Mommy Dearest, this week its Eric. As everyone knows, I have a low tolerance for the Viking’s annoying physical perfection, constant ‘I’m soooo awesome’ arrogance and duplicitous plotting, but this week…nope, couldn’t swear at him like I always do (and I assume that was the idea). Maybe its because I’m a sucker for Nazi uniforms? Man, I’m a sick bitch. Anyway, damn you Raelle for messing with my head. It won’t last though, because just like ole Sook says, whenever he does something nice, he does something nasty straight afterwards.

The show opens with our normally fastidious gentleman Bill finishing off his third werewolf. It’s super gross and impressive, but really, they were skimping on the special effects showing only a few seconds. Or maybe they were worried the actor wolves would bite Stephen’s very insurable face? Anyway, it’s almost over when a dude turns up on a horse. The lead werewolf is the same guy who masterminded the rather crap kidnapping, and he’s instantly awesome because he’s a Kiwi, from the only decent TV show produced in New Zealand ever (it’s called Outrageous Fortune, fact fans). Anyway, dude on the horse is the very classy King of Mississippi, who far from coming to Bill’s rescue, actually ordered him ‘napped. After shooting another Were to punish Cooter for sucking, he invites a politely pissed off Bill to stay at his fancy pad. Back over them state lines, Lafayette is making Tara puke up all those pills she swallowed, whilst cussing out her negligent momma. Continuing his role this season as the straight up, dependable hero with a deliciously smart mouth, he marches the suicidal, self indulgent madam out to the car, threatening her with a trip to the nuthouse.

Kindly Auntie Pam, fountain of all girl vamp knowledge.

At Fangtasia, where the Queen has chased away all the paying customers, Sookie is telling Eric about the dead man in Bill’s car with the squiggly rune thing on his neck. Sending Jessica and Pam out of the room to go preen in front of the bathroom mirror and have a little girl talk about how not to kill folks by accident, the smexy Sheriff explains werewolves. As Sookie’s world is full of weirdos, she’s not much surprised, and is unbothered about Eric’s warnings of potential bitey danger as she wants to find Bill like yesterday. There is then a misty eyed flashback to Germany where you see the only pair of tits in the entire episode (seriously?) and Vampire Jesus and Eric in those fetching uniforms. It seems that werewolves have been around since at least World War Two, and Eric don’t like them. He still doesn’t want to help Sookie out though, and so she pulls that old girly trick of crying prettily, which doesn’t really work but at least it gives the Iceman a good shot of inconvenient human emotions.

And now back to the missing almost- fiance, who is being fulsomely welcomed into a stately home by King Russell and his gorgeously camp and motherly house husband Talbot. Like Sophie Anne, Talbot loves decorating, and can’t wait to show a surly Bill his blingtastic guest suite with the silver plated doors, which duh, our man can’t open from the inside. I’m hoping Lorena gets thrown against those doors at some stage, y’all. Still getting no answers whatsoever, Bill retires to his four poster bed in a sulk. Without calling Jessica on vamp phone, presumably because he knows damn well he’s in deep shit and doesn’t want any of his crazy wimmens anywhere near him. In Bon Temps, said wimmens are arriving back at his empty house. Hoyt steps out of the shadows acting all sweet and looking hot with his badass new haircut, and Sookie departs for home, where she will bash Jason in the balls for spooking her in the dark/eating her fried chicken. Poor wee Jess still has the dead body problem to deal with and some new vamp food for thought from Auntie Pam, so she pushes Hoyt away yet again. Sniffle.

I'm gonna wash that skank right outta my house...

After some sibling bonding, Jason and Sooooookeh greet the daytime by setting to work on cleaning up the Maryanne nastiness. Jason is all adorable and excited about the existence of werewolves and possibly Santa, and suggests to Sook that his new best friend Andy could help with the missing potential brother in law. Awww, he’s so sweet when he’s being ‘Good Jason’ I want to pinch his cheeks. Somewhere in Arkansas, we finally catch up with Sam, who hasn’t been doing much except sleeping in his truck outside a shack, undisturbed by homoerotic dreams, curses! The guy he spoke to at the tyre shop last week is in fact, his brother, who marches him inside at gunpoint to meet his uber trashy parents. Where did they find a pair of underpants that toxic? Sam and his rather cute brother didn’t get their rugged good looks from their Daddy, but Momma must have been pretty once. She gave Sam up for adoption while Dad was in jail, and she’s a shifter, as is the brother. I’m sure there is a point to this storyline aside from giving Sam something to do, but I’m not feeling it yet.

Sticking with the theme of horrible families, Laffy has driven Tara to a nuthouse, but not to commit her, but to show her a fine example of another batshit crazy woman in the Thornton family. Lafayette’s Momma is amusingly insulting, twitchy and unappreciative of her smouldering orderly Jesus, or the son who is working his fine ass off to keep her in a decent home. Suitably chastened by this vision of the future, Tara promises to try and back her shit down and start dealing with life as it comes, instead of checking out. Even though she’s a racist homophobe and nuts, I still like Laffy’s mother better than fricking Lettie Mae, and Lafayette definitely needs some love, so why not with the orderly guy? He’s pretty and sweet, but knowing True Blood he probably has a dodgy secret or nasty personal habits or something, as even the good guys have big ass flaws in this world.

'Some manly male bonding over cars will take my mind off that dream...'

While Jason is getting all jealous over Andy hogging the adulation for the killing of Eggs (which is mourned by the viewers about as much as the townsfolk), Sookie has dutifully gone to work. In the carpark, she gets a flash of a large, hairy, creepy stalker’s mind, who promptly takes off when she goes running into the woods after his ass. Terry B helps her follow the tracks, and they find a pile of biker clothes and a paw print. Hmm, more people are starting to learn about these werewolves, so unless there’s a zany mass memory wipe like last season, the furry bastards won’t be having the exciting coming out party the vamps got two years back. During the lunch shift, Terry B loans Sookie a gun, and continues his very endearing pursuit of Arlene, even as she’s puking up in the toilets. Can we see his pet armadillo? Those things are so freaky. While his employees are acting random and not attending to their bar duties all that awesomely, Sam is doing more bonding with his brother, ending the reunion with some manly car repair action and some shifting into a cute collie/ugly pit bull duo.

'These guys are colourful and all, and the booze is nice, but I want to go HOME'

As night falls, Jessica is making enquiries about a chainsaw to get rid of the stinking trucker, while far away, Daddy is sitting down to dejeuner le sange with his new friends. Russell is cool and businesslike, Talbot is excitable and hospitable. Bill is in a borrowed tux and flinty eyed with suspicion. Allegedly Russell wants to marry Sophie Anne and is courting Bill’s allegiance, offering him a job as sheriff in exchange. As this could have been handled by a polite invitation and not an abduction, and Bill dislikes authority figures almost as much as I do, he is soooo not interested.

Russell flatters, probes, and then later on, moves to threats, because of course he sent the hairy biker guy to Bon Temps to snatch Sook for leverage. He also sent someone else, as while this is going on, a strange man moseys into the Compton residence and starts digging around in Bill’s office. We’re shown a quick shot of a creepy hidden dossier on Sookie…the fuck? At this point, it looks like the writers are bent on pissing Team Bill off completely by combining Books 3 and 6 of the Harris so- called masterpieces. Whatever, but please explain this and SOON, why is Bill so goddamn important to other, more powerful vampires when he actively dislikes them, and doesn’t do anything that makes money (like his geeky database from the books) or scares folks into submission? Me no understand.

vlcsnap 1725366 ep 2 beautifully broken

One of those super awkward dinner parties.

Over in Arkansas, Sam’s brother is trying to get him splattered on the road, and over at the Stackhouse residence, Eric is lurking on the porch, scaring a nervous Sook. She’s not interested in inviting him in for protection or primal sex, and flashes her nice ring at him for emphasis. So they hang out on the porch for awhile and he has another flashback to Germany. Naked Were chick is still pinned against the wall by a bayonet, and Eric is really quite angry at her. After giving her some blood, she tells him it’s another vampire that leads her pack, before jumping him. Godric rescues his ass, gently scolding him for not being in control of his emotions. This leads into Eric telling Sook about the meanest class of Nazi werewolves, and how its a good idea to stay far away from them. However, handsome blondie doesn’t tell her what he probably knows, that Russell is their bossman.

Across the cemetery, Jessica’s got her chainsaw ready to cut up the body, but its mysteriously gone. Over at Merlottes, Andy babysits a drunk Jason when the strange man who broke into Bill’s house ambles in, making a beeline for Tara, who’s slumped behind the bar looking all moody and self destructive. He’s a scruffy but devilishly charming looking vamp, evidently working for Russell and getting all up in Bill’s business. Andy gets called out to bust up a meth lab in Hotshot, a town more low rent and trashy than Bon Temps on an orgy day, and Jason gets to ride up front in the cop car and feel all important. He even gets to act heroic by tackling a guy with a bagful of drugs, and gets distracted by a pretty girlie with an air of mystery. He’s had a fun day, bless him.

vlcsnap 1733383 ep 2 beautifully broken

Respect, William...Talbot's gonna be pissed about his rug though.

Traditionally, the last few minutes of a True Blood episode are the most exciting to build up to the frustrating cliffhanger. Bill flashes his fangs at Russell when he threatens Sookie. Tara is beating on some rednecks in the parking lot who disrespect Eggs. New vamp zooms to her assistance, getting a huge vampire hard on at her fabulous aggression. Note to writers, please keep Tara angry, sweary Tara? Back to the super awkward dinner, Russell notes that Bill is a complete sap over everyone’s favourite telepath. Lorena wanders in swishing her riding crop and agrees that it’s totally lame. Bill immediately snaps and chucks a lamp at her head, setting the bitch on fire and ruining her grand entrance and Domme fantasy outfit. And finally at Sookie’s house, Eric is also sneering at her pending nuptials with sappy Bill when his Spidey senses tell him the Werewolf has finally arrived. He demands to be invited in, and ole Sook backs down. He goes in fangs out to meet wolfie, and stupid Sook shoots him by accident, probably. Chortle.

A long winded Dr. CE says see you next week kids, play nice in the meantime and most of all, have fun speculating!

Awww, CE. Wonderfully entertaining, as usual. How do you do it? Loved it, thanks!

  2. Payne says:

I would just like to say CE I am new to your recaps but i absolutely love them, started them with the beginning of this season then went back and reread all of them for season 2, and I just have a few points to make.

    1. Major girl crush on Pam here too, as well as Jessica but really who doesn’t?

    2. I honestly don’t see whats so damn great about Sookie either, she irritates the piss out of me, and I kinda wish the guys would stop acting like the sun shines out of her cooter (hehe…..cooter)

    3. Every time you refer to Godric as Vampire Jesus I about fall out of my bed laughing because that was my very first though when I first saw him (but even better Go Nazi Uniforms……evidently I’m a sick bitch too).

Like i said great recaps and I’m sure that just from your writing i will develop a bit of a girl crush on you too, either way keep up the good work.

  3. Irene says:

Great recap!! Loved it and it really clarified some things I hadn’t noticed-didn’t understand. Thank you! But do I detect some anti-female bias in the way you write about most of the female characters?

    • CitizenErased says:

Possibly, as most of the women on TB are batshit crazy and not exactly admirable. I think Alan Ball must have some horrible lady schoolteachers or something. Since this is a personal review- recap series, I shall continue merrily on dishing out snark whenever I think its due, as long as people want to read it. If it really offends you, then I guess there’s other recaps out there to read that are less um, sexist?

      • Irene says:

CE, I really enjoy reading your terrific recaps and will continue to do so despite my complaint!

        • Irene says:

But CE, the male characters in True Blood also don’t represent good mental health anymore than the female characters do! Still, the female characters get called b–ch, scank, etc, while the male one’s don’t get that name calling. Yes, i do see an anti-female bias in your recaps. Do you see what I mean? Sorry to critisize your otherwise terrific recaps!

      • BillsNia says:

CE, I love your personal recaps more than any others. Please keep it up. Your hard word and enless supply of pure entertaining snark is very much appreciated.

  4. Acanthus says:

Recap extraordinaire. So good it plays better than some parts of the episode. After the season is over, maybe you could recap an imaginary 13th ep. And 14th ep. Think of it, Citizen: you could push the characters around as you pleased. Plot? Ach, who cares! No Eggs, no Tara’s Mom, less Tara. And Sook might be redeemed with with something resembling allure. God knows what would become of the poor Viking. Whatever. Thanks for such a creative romp through the real eps.

  5. Lividity says:

As usual CE, brava woman! I await your weekly recaps as much as I do the show!

I am in agreement we need answers to the question, “Why is Bill so goddamn important to other, more powerful vampires.” Being puny-aged compare to the rest, it’s weird that everyvamp (sans Eric) wants to keep company with him or at least keep him employed in some capacity. I’m inclined to think though that being lord over only cactus plantation sounds like a dream job to me… prolly notsomuch for Bill.

And dear Jason *was* having an awesome day. Love it when he’s silly proud of himself and shit ;)

    • NotHoney says:

I’m with Liv on this one – ’tis a magnificent recap and why IS Bill so important to everyone? Is he sitting on a freakin’ mineral mine of some sort? It can’t just be ole Sook, if they want her they should just grab her.

Ah, That Stackhouse Boy is a delight, even when he’s eating while holding the aching family junk.

  6. shocknawe says:

Thank you. Wash that skank right outa my house !!! LMAO. I swear I almost, almost mind you, look forward to your recaps as much as watching the episodes. If you could muster up the kind of sexah Bill does we’d have a real competition.

While you are delighting you also manage to get to the heart of it – why kidnap Bill, I still don’t get that either. I love that in the midst of all this mayhem so far both the writers and you manage to bring in the humor. Between Jason asking about Santa and the imitation of Bill’s SOOKAY I was all over the place emotionally. Not a fan so far of Sam’s story or the whole Nazi thing.

  7. konfettii says:

Excellent recap! Nice job on keeping in funny in the middle of loads of really intense drama.
I LOVE the King and all his Kingly things, especially his dinners. Martha Stewart would be thrilled.

Not understanding why 170 year old young’in is so important that he can be used as leverage in kingdom takeovers, but good to Bill for giving the finger to politics. I do the same, quite often.

Not sure I’m understanding the file (telepath Sookie winning the spelling Bee made me giggle) at first I thought it was Bill’s compilation, but now I’m believing it landed in his lap somehow. Extraordinarilly bad hiding spot for it, too. No safe behind an old painting, really? I like this subplot coming in sooner than expected. After all the ‘good vamp/bad vamp’ stuff last season, which got really old really fast, Bill will get some darkness.

I re-watched the Loerna torching scene, no kidding, about twenty times.

Eric was finally what I’ve been waiting for during the porch chat. Loved how he manipulated the conversation in the direction he wanted it to go, all the while flipping between sincerity and sex and even making a point to get a jab in at Sookie’s mortality. I think I might actually tear up here.

    Godric is my hero.

I have a horrible crush on Franklin Mott, and I know I shouldn’t because he’s going to be a terrible, evil guy but I can’t help it.

Sick of Tara, she needs to put eggs behnd her NOW, and findging out Lafayette is paying a lot for his mom spoke volumes for his character.

  8. lizzie1701 says:

Great recap, CE. I also ponder on the Bill kidnapping. Question! If Bill takes Sheriff of Area 2, does that mean he is higher up in ranking than Eric, who has Area 5?

Just a little tidbit, Grant Bowler left NZ when he was 4. Spent over 20 years on OZ TV, notably on Blue Heelers and The Mole. Brought up in OZ, married an Aussie, has Aussie kids and had an Aussie house. Technically, he is Aussie, as going by that interview with SM, has an Aussie accent. Sorry!

    • TeamSookie says:

No they basically would have the same rank if he were to become Sheriff of Area 2. The number of the area doesn’t mean it’s a higher rank, it’s just how they were divided. Even in the books when Sookie figures this out on a map she felt even how they numbered it was odd so no special significance.

But I have a feeling towards end of season, this whole Sheriff thing with Eric or possibly Bill might not matter. Not if RE accomplishes his mission.

  9. Aemac says:

CE, you’re wonderful as always. OMG Your toxic underwear had me rolling.

I wasn’t into Eric scaring Sookie either. Says a lot about him and how Sookie feels about him when he had to threaten her to get into the house. Eric is looking a little pathetic with these supposed human emotions. I like him much better as the cold, strong, sexy vampire.

    Franklin Mott/Tara were awesome.

Did the writers forget that Eric/Pam had Jessica for the first two weeks and taught her to feed off of humans? So they lacked in their teachings and everyone is blaming Bill? HHMMMM

Bill…..what can ya say? He’s just back to being the best vampire on the show and lookin’ damn hot in a tux and he sure does love himself some Sookie.

    • konfettii says:

The writers probably did forget, or assumed the viewers would. (yeah, right!) Continuity is not exactly the strongest point of the show.
(serious question, was Jessica’s age changed from 17 to 16 or am I imagining this??)

I’m not so sure Sookie was scared when Eric went fangy, think she realized something was up.

I’m a little disappointed if the V selling thing is all about QSA trying to get fast cash so she doesn’t feel bullied into a ‘marriage’ (ahem, takeover) with Russell, but it looks like this might be where it’s going.

I too can’t quite get Eric’s emotional state. It started with Godric last year, and now apparently he’s also got some emotional investment with the werewolf storyline.
I recall Pam saying ‘he’s never been so entagled in his emotions’ (yeah, book stuff, but it fits here) so maybe this is the TB way to show it. *shrug*

@lizzie, have no idea how TB will handle it, but in the book series the states were independent of one another and the areas were divided up and numbered, not really in any sort of hierarchial order that was ever explained.

    • LuvEric says:

All you people do is bitch about what a fucking monster Eric is and the second he shows any honest human emotion you call him pathetic.

      pathetic indeed.

    • Pat says:

Great point about Eric and Pam having Jessica during the first weeks of her vampirehood. Maybe they spent too much time taking her shopping at Hot Topic (skanky Goth store) rather than teaching her how to eat.

      • Lividity says:

Well that can’t be right either – they let her feed on a guys with tattoos and nipple rings. They must have had to tell her something or supervise her right? I dunno. Poor lil’ vampire baby :(

  10. typeoneg says:

You’re right, of course, about Eric/Pam being piss-poor vampire parents. They could have taught her a hell of alot about being a vampire in 2 weeks, but they were apparently too busy to bother their pretty little heads with.
And damn, Bill can rock a tux…just gorgeous!

    • TeamSookie says:

I didn’t realize Pam/Eric were her parents. If you want to blame them then fine but Bill has no responsibility as her maker? Guess they all messed up if you want to look at it that way. It’s not their responsibility but we see Pam answering Jessica’s questions and giving her advice.

  11. TeamSookie says:

I don’t think Eric scared Sookie in that way, he reacted with urgency because of the situation at hand. Maybe he was a little too intense but the flashback showed us why he was that way. He has been hunting these people for an extremely long time. So for him it is a bit more personal, he reacted to the danger inside of her house and really didn’t have time to play games with Sookie about please letting him in. I would understand if he was different prior to that part, but he showed her that he cared they were coming after her and is trying to protect her which is the reason he is getting involved now. I don’t think Sookie was scared of him either, give the girl credit that she realized the change in Eric and that there was danger in the house. She also comes running RIGHT behind him with her gun so she also sprung right into action, again showing that she realized what happened.

Why Bill was kidnapped? Well RE seems to know Bill from a previous time, he says “nice to see you again” and he knows Bill works for QSA. So he needs an ally that will help him in his plans and obviously needs a vamp in QSA queendom. I think he knows Eric wouldn’t cooperate with him and who knows about the other vamps. He also seems to know Lorena and she is in his kingdom so probably thinks it can help him somehow, don’t know why though. He is also very obviously skeptical about why Bill is in BT and thinks there is some big secret behind it and knows that maybe Bill would be the best option since he can hold something over him, not to mention he knows Bill loves Sookie and could threaten him by doing something to Sookie. This was proved by the fact that he sent a were to kidnap Sookie and not to mention he sent Franklin to go find out secrets about Bill that RE is suspicious about. Unlike other vamps, he knows there are things he can hold over Bill and make him cooperate. This is something RE has been planning for a bit, he already approached QSA and she said no so he has been keeping an eye on LA and the vamps in LA, this was the best approach.

One thing I’m left wondering about is that he offers Bill the position of sheriff of area 2. But we see what RE ultimate plan is, DOH said it in an interview recently. Now if he wants to be president of US, and he also mentions during dinner that state lines would be a thing of the past, then would he actually have sheriff’s of the areas the way they are now? It seems like he plans on a whole new system.

    • konfettii says:

Keep thinking on the Bill thing, and right now I tend to agree with you, that Russell is suspicious of Bill being in a ‘swamp’ and dating a waitress and for whatever reason (perhaps Bill’s past employment?) he isn’t buying the whole mainstreaming thing. Russell used the word ‘allowed’, which I think is significant.
It’s only episode two and my brain already hurts.

      • TeamSookie says:

I think it is the only thing that makes sense up to this point. Otherwise, why would he feel the need to send FM to investigate Bill. He is looking for Bill’s secrets that lead to the Queens secrets. At the same time he sends that were to kidnap Sookie. He is not leaving anything up to chance, he will find out one way or another. Whether he has to use Sookie to threaten Bill or find the secrets himself.

    • LuvEric says:

LOL … Sookie was not scared of Eric; Sookie is in awe of Eric. The only “technicality” is Bill. We did not hear her yelling, being offended, being snarky toward Eric.

“Pelase come in Mr Northman” was a double entendre

She is nearly ready but Eric will not take her until she is over Bill once and for all. He will reject her until she gets her head on straight and rightfully so.

      We shall see:)

      • Aemac says:

I think I might have to disagree about Sookie being in awe of Eric and I don’t think she’s almost ready for Eric either. She didn’t want him in her house, she made a point of Eric not only seeing her ring but making the statement she’s with Bill. In epi 1 she also told Eric that Bill is her life. I will say she doesn’t understand Eric, but why would she? Sookie stated Eric will do something selfless followed by something despicable. At this time, Sookie has a use for Eric and that’s it, just as Eric has a use for Sookie.

        • TeamSookie says:

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree because why would Sookie jump and tell Eric how can he leave after everything he just said. He just showed an emotional side and showed that he cared about her, if there wasn’t any part of her that was in awe of him or more just curious then she wouldn’t say you can’t leave. Did you see her face when he says “but” and stops, and then she asked him “but” and wanted him to continue on, pay attention to her face and how she says it. I don’t think she is ready to get it on with him or has strong feelings, but realistically a small part of her is interested.

Why didn’t she let him in? well it’s the same reason women don’t want to stay in with a guy when first dating when they know where it may lead and they don’t want it to lead there.

She is not ready for him completely but she doesn’t hate him either sorry. This also doesn’t change her love for Bill, doesn’t lessen it so don’t take it the wrong way. But people in relationships do get tempted, it’s a part of life.

          • TeamSookie says:

Forgot to say that even AB said in an interview last year after Season 2 finale that Sookie IS attracted to Eric no matter how much she tries to deny it.

          • Aemac says:

And that just gives me the icky’s TeamSookie. For AB to say Sookie is attracted to Eric and it’s more then just the blood is just wrong. Eric has done so many despicable things to Sookie and to people she loves that IMO it’s similar to someone being attracted to their abuser. I know Team Eric doesn’t think he’s abused Sookie in any way, but in tricking Sookie to drink his blood he has committed a form of violation. I’m totally disappointed the writers are going down this oddly sick road, but yet I’m totally hot for Mott!!

  12. fleur says:

    superbe récapitulation;

  13. tralala says:

Huge vampire hard on and baby Jesus, lol. I totally agree with you <3

I always enjoy your recaps. I found the Nazi uniform thing disturbing, even though I shouldn't pay much attention to this. Eric and Godric had their own reasons for doing it. And the post mortem was brilliant.

And the new James Frain vamp, is fucking sexy. I guess it must be the British accent.

  14. mairemor says:

Great recap. Well girls, IDK. The multiple plot lines make for a very fractured presentation. And what’s w/ Bill torching Lorenna? I sure hope she’s just a bit BBQed cause one of my fav scenes in the SVMs (apart from the ES shower scene) is Sookie’s fight with Lorenna. I so want to see those two rumble and Sookie take her down. LOL on watching that scene 20 times Konfettii, me luv.

    • konfettii says:

      Hey Maire!
Oh, I don’t think Lorena is dead since we haven’t gotten to those S3 promo scenes with her yet, and I agree with you – I will be a very unhappy camper if we don’t get the Lorena/Sookie showdown (I keep telling myself the mini version in Dallas was setting us up for the big one, but I’m a fan of wishful thinking so who knows)
Lorena is one of those ‘I will hate to see her leave but love to watch her go’ characters. I hope her TB demise is the stuff of legend, like it was in Club Dead.

  15. AterialFountain says:

    Great recap again CE!

    Some points that I found interesting;

RE says ‘welcome BACK to Mississippi’ or something along those lines. Has Bill worked for him before?
Back in S2 Lorena says she hasn’t seen Bill for 70 years and Eric says “well I haven’t seen MY maker for longer than that”. Bad memory or fibbing? Retcon please!
Who is the hunky new bartender at Merlottes lol?

I love Franklin Motts voice. He should own a dial up sex line.
    Godric! *sigh*
I don’t think Lorena has been roasted at the dinner table. I think Bill’s just having a wild fantasy about it.

    • CitizenErased says:

Mate, if he brained the witch with a TV, he would totally be up for hitting her with a lamp. Someone will just put her out with a fire extinguisher (LMAO) and she’ll go feed to heal. Maybe fire doesn’t automatically kill vamps like in the books.

      1. Bill’s probably been in Miss. in his wanderings
      2. Consistency error!
      3. Did not notice, soooooo much going on in this episode it was a struggle to take it all in. I hope they dial down the ADD, 5 minutes per main character shit.

      • AterialFountain says:

Yes, the ignoble fire extinguisher scene! How will she get the foamy stains out?

It’s true Bill could have just wandered into Mississippi, but they don’t waste lines on info that’s not going to be relevant at some stage, I think.

Hunky bartender is just in one scene, but I just thought it was funny to see these other characters (who obviously Sam would need to employ because Sookie and Arlene can’t do it all!) just appear in the background.

      • Cranky says:

I think the main characters got more than 5 minutes CE? I enjoyed the back and forth…short scenes. The continuity was crap…day and night got all confused. But the scenes were mostly quite humorous…and meaningful to the larger plots.

Bill certainly had me with the opening scene…MY EAR! Then…”Cooter?” Now that was snark!
And Russel. The “Master” of the “pack” Eric has been searching for…for more then 1000 years?

I loved Terry and Arlene too! And Andy and Jason…Jason and Sookie. Jason and Hoyt. Pam and anybody. Jessica and anybody.

    • konfettii says:

The 70 years thing, yeah. Another continuity problem I suppose.

    • Lividity says:

Wait, there’s a hunky new bartender at Merlotte’s? How on earth did I miss this? Guess there’s another reason to watch this episode, oh you know… for like the 4th time now I think.

Lorena on Fire: I have heard the discussions about that scene not being real. I have to say that although Bill might not really enjoy her that often anymore, it seems out of character for him to do that during a civilized dinner party with the King and his consort. Or maybe that’s the point – Bill sans Sookie is a different creature than the audience has grown accustomed to.

  16. Cranky says:

Interesting comments! The only reason Eric’s “something nice/something nasty” stand out to Sookie…is her obsession with Bill….which Eric has called her on. Bill does the same…but Sookie forgives him instantly when she can’t over-look it. Guess she loves her passionate primal sex with her first love? Vampire “nature”…”blood lust”…”politics”… all excuses for Bill…but not for Eric? Yes…Bill got there FIRST…because QSA sent him.

It’s about time Charlaine’s Eric stepped up. It’s not a proper triangle (the thing all soaps are made from) until we get to know the REAL Eric. Bill wouldn’t have stood a chance against “book” Eric!

CE quote…”At this point, it looks like the writers are bent on pissing Team Bill off completely by combining Books 3 and 6 of the Harris so- called masterpieces.”

I won’t call the books masterpieces…but the characters certainly are! And far as I can tell…AB has been melding bits and pieces from all the books…as he goes along. Taking here…giving there….throwing some of it out. Won’t even bother going into the number of characters invented…enhanced…combined…or saved from death by AB. Same for the story lines. Yet for some reason…when it comes to Bill…anything CH wrote is off limits?

I’m glad it’s not the Bill and sooooKAY bed and bath show. I wouldn’t waste one minute of my time watching that.

    • wiwa says:

“I’m glad it’s not the Bill and sooooKAY bed and bath show. I wouldn’t waste one minute of my time watching that.”

Just as I dread the Eric and Sookie shower hour that may happen next year. I can’t begin to say how creepy that will feel to me.

Fortunately for both of us there are other stories being told. No matter who Sookie is or isn’t getting naked with, there will still be an Eric story for you and a Bill story for me.

  17. wiwa says:

Thanks for the hilarious recap – I cheated, I haven’t seen the episode yet, and now I know who burns at the mansion and why. Bad Wiwa.
Eric looks good out of a track suit or wife-beater- but while that lighting works well for his nose, it changes his cleft chin into something like lady parts, ewwww.

  18. latbfan says:

Another excellent recap, oh Dark Mistress of Snark. You’re just jealous because you want a riding crop like Lorena… :-p

    • CitizenErased says:

Who says I don’t have one? *arches brow*

Man, everyone seems to be in a squabbly mood today…le sigh. Its enough to make a girl give up on this shit entirely and take up a more constructive hobby. Like half assed gardening.

      • cr says:

        half naked gardening?

      • Pat says:

Hi, CE. Thanks for aother fabulous and entertaining recap. You see so much more than the rest of us do. I always have to watch the episode again after reading your recap to watch for the parts I missed. You are a great writer and I hope you never give it up. Talent like yours is wonderful to share.

Loved the suggestion of you writing a pseudo episode…

Anymore faux interviews like the one of you climbing in Stephen’s lap in the works? That still makes me laugh when I think of it.

Thanks for the best True Blood web site on the world wide web!

P.S. BMW is coming out with a hybred…maybe that will work for Bill. But he looked pretty darn good on that horse…

  19. TeamSookie says:

Does anyone actually like talking about the story lines, other characters or is it all insulting the other team? I mean this is a recap of a whole episode and now we’ve moved on to talking about their looks?

Well moving on from that and onto more interesting stuff. It’s interesting that QSA seems to already know Sookie is part fae, makes you wonder why she is with Hadley and if AB threw in some twists. Gue.ss Adele wasn’t lying that Sookie’s grandfather also knew things since we see only his and Sookie’s name circled on the family tree. Maybe on the show Adele didn’t have an affair

So many people are saying that Bill didn’t really set Lorena on fire and it was just his imagination. Not 100% sold on that yet but would make sense why Lorena would only turn around instead of getting out of the way considering how fast she is.

  20. TeamSookie says:

Aemac-but I am sure you’ll forgive Bill for starting a relationship on false pretenses and never admitting to the truth. She gave up her virginity for him, he proposed all without ever telling Sookie the truth. It will be your prerogative to still root for Bill and while I might not agree, hey to each their own. Both are flawed characters, we have seen Bill’s past and having sex on top of a bloody bed with a corpse still in it. Yes, I know now he is mainstreaming now but for how long has he been mainstreaming? The fact that Malcolm and co., came looking for Bill once he arrived in BT, tells me that maybe he hasn’t been mainstreaming for long and didn’t take much convincing for him to taste Jerry. He also left with the Rattrays that first night and I think it’s because he wanted to feed off of Denise(no not kill her or other crazy conspiracies) he was staring at her neck when they were in Merlotte’s. But he fell for Sookie and that made him want to be a better man. Why can’t it be the same for Eric, he falls for her and lets see how he is with her from here on out. Not saying you’ll ever like E/S lol I don’t expect Bill fans to change their minds but each side can say things about the other.

    • Ericsookiefortheworld says:

i agree with you, sometimes i thought that bill’s fans was in the denial, they always said that bill was a saint and never did something evil. and i know, deep down they know that bill was no angel, and eric was not the evil one… i thought they just felt insecure that eric would steal the show, and make true blood about eric and sookie, not bill and sookie anymore….. just like in CH book

      • TeamSookie says:

The good thing is that no matter what happens, unlike the books we know that Bill will still be a huge part of TB. I know I am in the minority but I’m also looking forward to single Sookie lol. Maybe it will be easier to discuss the show without it all being about Eric or Bill. I love to discuss so many other parts of the show like the great story lines they are creating this season but seems to be cast aside because of all the Eric/Bill debates and not just on here but everywhere. We have RE a king who doesn’t want any state lines and plans to start off his mission by marrying QSA, now that was a shocker. Eric/Pam, QSA are not going to get off easy with this V dealing, the Magister will be back and start punishing them. Hot Shot wasn’t messed up enough in the books they had to involve them with Meth lol. I love that they are doing WWII flashbacks, and taking from other parts of history. RE is a celt, were’s involvement throughout history, we’ll get to see Eric’s dad who was a king and talking to his son about how a Prince should act, I’m sure this story line will connect with RE and the were’s somehow and also will explain the WWII flashback.

Can’t forget the other characters, wonder what will happen with Laf and Jesus. Whose baby is Arlene carrying? Rene or Terry? Doesn’t Jason join the police academy lol should be fun to watch. Tara and FM are gonna have quite the dysfunctional relationship. I can’t wait to see Debbie Pelt, there is another bitch I’m going to love to hate just like Lorena.

        • Ericsookiefortheworld says:

That’s true, this is a great show with lots of story, but i think in just 12 ep each season, AB focus to too many character. this show didn’t gave sookie character room for development just like in the book, sookie was not a crybaby. i just want to see sookie grown up to be a mature woman, and one thing book sookie didn’t like to be owned, i want strong character like that for the show sookie. in the season 2, tara screen time was more than sookie and i skip too many ep in season 2 because of that maenad thing (sorry for my bad English)

          • TeamSookie says:

Your English is just fine. I think we will see a different Sookie this season. She will be more of that take charge, bad ass Sookie from the books. I’ve already seen a change in her episode 2 and as the season goes on it will be more evident. In the books I admired how brave she is and the lengths she goes through for those she loves and it’s about time show Sookie is beginning to show these characteristics. That’s why I think this season will be great, we get to see an in depth look at every character. We will see who they really are, why they are the way they are, and seems like everyone will be pushed close to the edge so we will see what they are really made of when you have to fight for your life.

      • lizzie1701 says:

Sorry, but the only place I have seen that mentions “saint’ is by Eric fans on Eric dominated sites! We know Bill has an evil side and we know he kills. What is your point? That we Bill fnas have rose coloured glasses? Afraid not! W love Bill because of what he is, what he is trying to be, the way he looks, the way is body looks, his beautiful eyes and hands, his long, sexy fingers, they way he makes love to Sookie and that he is a Vampire who wants to be human again. He is trying to be good and there are forces out there trying to prevent him achieving his goal.

Really, I think it is the Eric fans who think Eric is a saint!

Oh by the way! I hope it is Bill and Sookie who have the shower scend! Wouldn’t that be a riot!

  21. CitizenErased says:

Doing a quick skim over the comments, I note half of them are devoted to arguing over who is more of a bastard, Bill or Eric. Yet again. While I appreciate feedback on my recaps, I do not appreciate mean spirited comments on other fans and childish fighting. That silly shit belongs on messageboards, if anywhere.

I don’t have to do this, it is not my job. I do it because I want to entertain and amuse peeps and support this awesome website with original content. If I get the same kind of comments next week, then I will not be back after the 4th July weekend break thingy. By all means support your favourite man, but think before you start to type. Cheers.

    • gattopardo says:

I hear you CR and hope people will tone down their comments because your recaps are amazing and I’d hate be without them. Know that many of us do appreciate and love what you do and commend you on devoting your time and talents to writing the recaps.
      thank you.

    • Aemac says:

My apologies CE, if I’ve stated anything offensive to you. You have the best recaps I’ve ever read on the web and I look forward to them every week. Your insight is genius and you tend to show no favouritism to any specific character. You and you’re recaps are AWESOME!

  22. Jess says:

Love the recap! Agree with other peeps about some serious continuity lapses, can’t believe anyone hasn’t mentioned that Eric’s hair was short in the WW2 flashback! Keep up the great work CE, we appreciate it.

    • TeamSookie says:

You know I did think about that, I guess Eric has cut his hair another time too lol. I’ve noticed that TB will ignore some things if for the moment a new theory works better for their plot lol. Now if Eric has short hair in the flashback of his human life then I think people will really have a lot to say but I’m sure they threw on a wig for that one. I hope one day we’ll get a Pam/Eric flashback. Episode 3 we do get the Bill/Caroline flashback, and from the previews of next weeks episode it looks intense. I’m guessing it’s the one where he gets shot, that is pretty messed up but I guess when she saw that his tears were blood it freaked her out. I have to say I even felt bad seeing that he goes home and starts crying to his wife it seems. The casting call for Caroline Compton they said this will be a GREAT scene, so I am looking forward to it.

  23. gattopardo says:

great recap CE, please don’t hold back on the snark, darn it, you do it so well!

  24. GhostofAF says:

Amazing recap for an amazing ep. I loved it though it raised more questions than it answered. Wow it was fast, so much packed in, silver doors an interesting decor choice, I loved the total over the topness of the dinner party (and Bill’s tux) and King wanting to marry Queenie. Laffy was brilliant with Tara and I loved Terry helping Sookie and reading out his list to Arlene. Jess and the “how much is a chain saw?” was hilarious, loved her girly scene with Pam. I might be in the minority here but I liked Eric showing his emotions, icemen are boring boring boring boring, love to see the little chinks like him asking Sookie not to cry.

ps. Love your snark and hate the “my friend is better than your friend” squabbly comments.

  25. TruBNewB says:

CE… just found this site and have been voraciously devouring it all week :) I just wanted to say thank you for your excellent and humourous recaps. I hope the snark level amongst other members does not cause you to abandon your recapping because you have amazing skills. Having just abanded all my soaps and their related message boards… I am VERY familiar with the “my boy” is better than “your boy” comments. It gets tiring for sure. Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks and I am sincerely hoping that we DO get to see more recaps from you!

  26. callonmebill says:

Citizenerased, I love reading your recaps – please don’t stop you have a great talent.

Eric/AS wears a uniform well, any uniform, so I too fall into the sick bitch column.

  27. Cranky says:

I’m looking forward to a “single” Sookie too, LOL! Looking forward to Alcide…and Quinn. And miserable Bill and Eric.
I’m actually interested in every sl…altho some of the characters I’m not too happy with. Tara!
Also think I must have ADD. In fact…this confirms it. I loved the short segments…and the back and forth between all the major characters…while they laid the foundation for all the up-coming sl’s. The flash-backs! The introduction of new characters. I was never bored!

  28. fleur says:

Moi aussi CE du bout de ma france j’aime vos récapitulatif alors surtout n’arrêtez pas…….

  29. lizzie1701 says:

CE – I am looking forward to your recap of ep 3, which has the ‘twisted sex’ scene! I can’t wait to read your thoughts on that!

    • Irene says:

Me too, about reading your Ep 3 recap, CE!!
Ep 3 was so disturbing! -with the twisted head of Lorena and the truck driver’s head delivered to poor Jessica! What sex scene between Tara and Franklin -that and his control over her was disturbing to me too! I guess sex with a vampire must be great!

  30. Jaded3 says:

What do you think about the dossier on Sookie that Bill had hidden in his false bottom drawer. He was obviously studying his assigned “mark” before walking into Merlott’s for the fist time. He knew Sookie’s family tree, that she had won a spelling bee, and what she looked like before he ever met her.

IMO poor Bill only fell in love with his assignment because he had her Fae blood. The Queen warned Eric not to taste Sookie for this very reason. Alas poor Eric is falling for her without ever having her blood.

Sookie is not worthy of either of them but AB has made a point about Sookie’s blood that we should soon see and he is making a point about Bill’s job.

  31. Cranky says:

Oh please…it’s more than Sookie’s special blood! It’s the way she’s always rescuing and protecting these vamps of hers. Makes them feel “loved”!

  32. Sarah says:

Am a bit behind in reading this but another great, entertaining recap CE and havuing watched episode 3 this morning i CANNOT WAIT for your next recap !!!!
