The New York Times recently published an interview with Charlaine Harris, who’s tenth Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead in the Family, will be released this Tuesday, May 4th.
In the article she talks about how her vampires are more sympathetic than Dracula, various sexualities manifest within her characters & living in Arkansas.
Takeaways: she doesn’t seem to be a fan of Mike Huckabee & Stephenie Meyer might be a recluse.

Book 10 was great….i’ve the possibility to read it…and i’m speachless how good it was….Eric and Sookie totally share a deep deep love that we never seen before in Sookie’s life….all the characters have their happy moment, even Bill find his happiness even if he is very jelous of the love their share becouse he knows that it’s something that he never had with her , nont in that deep way…but he has his happy ending too^^
so so so so good..
Pam and Sookie totally rocks and their frienship is so strong now and i’m really happy about that!i’m pretty sure that Ball already read the books as many lucky person did for their job…
This book is defenitly in my top 3..

yes they work very good…there a lot of sex too..they are a couple not only phisical but emotional…and with Pam it’s a perfect combination…they all want the same thing:Victor’s death!!!
Of course many things are left for nex book but this one has a beginning a central plot action ad an end…

From what Charlaine has said in interviews, she considers Eric the bad guy. Sookie ain’t gonna end up with the bad guy, it just won’t happen and doesn’t make sense.
Guess I’ll have to read Book 10 for myself.

Bad Guys can be made good…with the love of a good woman!
… and that’s how every bad relationship starts, with a woman thinking that a bad guy can become a good guy… honey, a bad guy is always a bad guy and he’s not gonna change for you, no matter what he says, and even if he does, why do I want to wait for a guy to change, if anything, I want the already good one that makes ME change! Why do I have to wait for him… why doesn’t he wait for ME… for a change?! Ok enough about my ranting…
Now about this book and the story at the moment, I don’t think Eric’s a bad guy… to me he was a very interesting character that lost all his charm when he started running around poor little Sookie from book 4 till now, he’s just not believable anymore, a vampire of such power doesn’t sit around to wait for this little human (this is me thinking like the Eric I though I knew from the earlier books) plays him all she wants to, it doesn’t fit his character or his personality!
And when it comes to Sookie and Eric’s relationship… I’m still waiting for tha racy, crazy, maddening, fucked up, exhausting and yet exciting chemestry she had with Bill. Eric and Sookie to me are perfect for each other… in a very boring way. It’s like they’re brother and sister or something…
P.S.: this is my humble opinion, please don’t kill me… really I mean well!

WTF ! Bill is a liar! and Eric is not a bad guy…all see that :S is the first impresion only…he cares about her, and i think he loves sookie!(maybe he dont realized it yet), for me, Eric and Sookie are ther perfect couple!! :D i love them ^_^
Oh puhleez! Bill is not a liar and Eric is definitely not the good guy. I must have read a different set of books. Since when are trickery, manipulation, deceit and control, characteristics of a good guy? Eric, a good guy? Most definitely not. So he bought a her driveway and a coat, big whoop! He is comic relief, nothing more, as far as I am concerned.
OK, I’m a Bill fan but that doesn’t mean I think everything he has done is good, he DID lie and he made pretty huge mistakes, but he has also redeemed himself, Sookie has forgiven him and she also knows that he truly loves her, that’s what matters.
Ana, I agree. Bill did lie and act like a dick in the earlier books, but I still rated him much more than the other guy. Aren’t people weird? ;)
Eric has always done a lot more for Sookie than Bill ever did. And Eric’s agenda was always “out there”. In the books…Sookie CHOOSES to “embrace” and “explore” Eric. Who could blame her? Doesn’t mean there’s not more or gentleman Bill to be embraced and explored by Sookie. WOO HOO!

Eric is not a bad guy, Charlaine said it many times, he can be ruthless but Sookie is as him..in this book they decide to kill Victor and Sookie said that some people deserve to die….she also want to kill Appius in this book…
Eric alwasy cared about her, always saved her…and always tell her the truth becose he knows what good for her to save her ass….
But this book is defenitly the confirmation about the love they had….not only Eric said he loves her but even other people around them see this love and feel this love…
Bill will have his happy ending….but Eric his her right man…and in this book he proves how human he always was but was to afraid to show…
Charlaine said many things becouse she loves teas people and in fact they believe in everything she said….
Sookie will have children but not her own….that means a vamp is her man and Bill supposed to die in book 9 and she always knows her HEA from book 2 and never changed….
i know averyone have a fav but at least what is important his that our fav is happy..so Bill will be happy and that should be important….
in this book sookie even conteplate to become a vamp to stau with Eric forever but he didn’t knoe that she made this consideration….
So i guess in the very end everybody will have their happy ending….

What makes you think that??? Really, I would like to know because I also read book 10 and I never got the impression that he was going to have his happy ending with THAT someone. There are 3 more books, so anything can happen.

Although I want Sookie and Bill to end up together and I know they will on True Blood, it may very well be that Sookie and Sam end up together in the books. I believe it will definitely not be Eric, who Charlaine has clearly indicated is the bad guy and she can’t understand all the Eric love out there, and frankly neither can I.
For sometime I’ve the feeling that if AB picks a Happily Every After for Sookie, it might not be whom Charlaine picks.
Which could get interesting.
Since we know a lot from book 10 now, can you give Bill fans a reason to buy it? ;)
Ooh spoiler-icious, did she give Bill a new love interest then? Your post is very sweet, Supe, but there’s still a lot of incredibly pissed off Bill fans that still want him and Sookie together and will not be swayed. Just as Eric fans are unlikely to be swayed either. Such is the awesome polarising power of these silly books. I’m off to read JR Ward’s latest offering instead, as that will not make me want to tear my hair out and toss it across the room :p I’m glad you liked it though, and welcome to the site.

CH has another 3 books to write. Do you really think that S/E will play “happy ever after” for 3 more books? I think not! Eric is evil. Eric is bad. Eric is a manipulator. Bad Eric! I think he is being devious to obtain Sookie. Bill is the one who truely loved her. Gee, all that crap with “the lie” happened 9 books ago. Give it a break! Eric has manipulated for at least 7 books! As I have said, give it a break!
Eric is all those things-except evil. For me evil is a hell of a lot more than that (perhaps due to my non-fic reading material). Hell, compared to Victor and even Debbie Pelt, Eric’s practically a saint.
In real life would I trust Eric? Nope. But in the end both the books and the series are still just fiction.

I love Bill. But I love Eric more. Bill would always have a special place in Sookie’s heart because he’s her FIRST LOVE. But I think the depth that Eric and Sookie’s relationship has is really deep. The love they feel for each other is very strong (both physical and emotional).
As for Sookie and Bill’s ending. I really don’t know. CH has her way of surprising the readers. The main thing for me is that whatever makes Sookie happy.
There’s no sense in fighting whether she should be with Eric or Bill. Because no matter how much we argue, we could never settle things because we are all attached to the characters we’re fighting for. So I think we should just wait for the last book to see what really happens. :)
