Light and Dark:
True Blood’s Bill Compton & Eric Northman

In both Charlaine Harris’s books and in Alan Ball’s True Blood, both the lead vampire characters go through somewhat of a metamorphosis when they come in contact with Sookie Stackhouse. In True Blood, Bill Compton calls Sookie, “his miracle” and struggles to tamp down the dark side of his vampire instincts. This season, Bill is letting a bit of that dark side escape.
Coming in from the opposite direction, Eric Northman, who is not ashamed of his dark side, is beginning to show some signs of compassion, not only as a result of Godric’s demise, but also because of a certain golden-haired waitress.

I loved Bill the first two seasons, but his character has really developed this season. He’s always been very hot, handsome, romantic, sexy, masculine, caring, loving, tender, and loyal. This year, we can add strong, viirile, macho, and boy he can really kick butt too. I love all of his fight scenes. Some fans have described Bill as wimpy. I think that is because seasons 1 and 2, did not show his strength of character all that well. I don’t see how anyone can say that he is a wimp now.
I like the fact that AB has given Bill a history and not portrayed himl as a do-gooder boyscout. I like the fact that Bill constantly struggles against the darker angels of his vampire nature to be a better man. It would be so easy to give into the dark side like Eric and other vampires clearly have. That inner conflict, makes Bill so much more interesting as a character than some one dimensional, totally good, or totally evil character.
Loved Light Bill, but love Dark Bill even more.
Totally agree BillFan45! I never saw Bill as Whiney or wimpy. Even in S2 ! Look at how he handled the situation at the Hambeys? Look how he killed the Weres! Bill is afraid of no one and no thing! He even stood up to Eric and the Queen (didn’t Eric bow down to the Queen?) Give me dark or light Bill anytime and anywhere!

Enjoyed both articles very much and I’m looking forward to the evolution of these two characters on the show. Although I am partial to Eric and watching him being forced out of his comfort zone, I am however enjoying Bill’s tragic spiral into the darkness of his nature. Will he rise above it? I guess we’ll just have to keep watching…twist my rubber arm AB.
What I find interesting here is there is Light And Darkness in BOTH of these vampire gents! There is Also good and bad in Sookie,Sam,Tara,Jessica,Lafayette & Alcide! There was good and bad in Edward Cullen and Jacob Black in Twilight,too. (Although More “dark” in Edward in the books than in the films) It’s Not,I think, That suddenly Bill is “bad” and Eric is “good”..It’s just that these two vampire gents are uncovering their core strengths and weaknesses.
bILL IS GREAT DARK OR LIGHT. I love Bill anyway he comes. Laf,”That man is sex on a stick!” hehe All us Bill lovers love him anyway he comes. We all hope he will be with Sookie.

I have never seen Bill as wimpy or whiney either, but some of my more rabid Eric fan friends do. I lost my heart to Bill the first time he showed up in Merlotte’s looking so handsome , romantic and myserious. I married a handsome, romantic, dark haired guy myself many, many years ago; I naturally prefer them to blondes.
I love the way Bill (Light or Dark) loves Sookie with his whole heart and mind and his whole being. I love the way SM portrays Bill’s love for her. It is so real and touching. IMHO Bill Compton is not only the leading man of True Blood, he has become the true heart of the show too. I can’t imagine TB without him.

Bill has been developed into the Best character I’ve ever seen on tv; ‘vamp’ or human. Eric has not been given a chance to be much of anything…other than a coniving bad guy. (not at all like Harris’s “Eric” ..who is more of the “hero”…and a lot more “physical” ..than Bill..)So how can we compare the 2 ?? Alan Ball has CREATED BILL as a “super hero” !! I am very tired of it all…because I AM AN ERIC FAN (from books) & since I first laid eyes on SCARSGARD !! …who , in my opinion …”saved” season 2 !! from ‘maenad disaster’ ! He is whaT SOOO MANY fans want to see more of !!

ok i know tht picking both teams isnt possible but the charity charts are stupid they should never do tht cuz eric is apprently the hottest and the strongest not putting down bill and all but seriously i love eric and i hope the best for him SPOILER trying to kill the jing of mississipi. i say again there will be no more trying to look good its just about the rivialry dont get me wrong bill is hot but eric theres something in him that makes me love him even more but bill dont go wrong with your dead life move on get a new girlfriend which does happen. sookies go with alcide which does happen then she goes with this guy named quinn. but eric i love you if eric is reading this plz message me back i love eric ive been thinking will eric be with sookieh yes i read in the book
oh yeah even though eric is mean thoughout all the seasons doesnt mean he is mean he is nice in many ways just some people never see it. i have alot of love for eric he needs be with sookie but no one will ever replace the best vamp ever.
