Matt Fowler at IGN TV explains in hilarious detail the differences between the two series and why True Blood wins more ass-kicking points than Twilight: “It’s true. True Blood wins. Easily. On almost every single conceivable level. It’s hardly even a fair fight. It’s like watching a bed-ridden asthmatic try to knock down a sequoia. By huffing and puffing. True Blood is a salaciously sinister and fiendishly fun series featuring insane characters filled with life and color. Twilight is a sniffly-nosed, dew-covered mope-fest filled with silence and shame.”

That's gonna leave a spot
And do not miss the letter to a magazine by a disgruntled Twilight fan who thought the movie “Werewolf” had stolen it’s entire plot from “Twilight: New Moon.” Make sure you pee first.

“Oh, and Jacob totally looks like a llama.”
Hah!
The letter was hysterical. I know there are quite a few people who like both TB and the Twilight series, but I get a perverse kick out of annoying the tween fans of Twilight. Hopefully at some point they’ll expand their reading list and discover other literature. And perhaps they’ll learn how to spell.
Really, to me, Vampire Diaries and Twilight are a teenager products. They are two different things, I’d wish people wouldn’t compare them with True Blood so often. They only have in common the vampires. Just that.
Oh, true. But it’s fun for the media.
For me, even Buffy was an adult show even though the Scoobies were teens at the beginning of the series.
Totally agree. It’s just a chance for the media to be snarky and stir-up the fans on both sides. The two really aren’t comparable. The target audience is so different for one. My fifteen year old daughter isn’t crazy about Twilight (she can’t stand Bella’s morose attitude and thinks Edward is freaky looking) but I sure as hell would not want her watching True Blood. No way, no how.
I think this is more about taking a pot shot at fans who act like idiots. That letter was hilarious.
Sorry, but I also wanted to ad that I really like the Vampire Diaries even though, like Twilight, it is written for teens. (Team Damon!) So it’s not always about the audience as it is about the writing. Loved Buffy too – also for teens.
Yep yep agree 100%, two different genres, really. I LOVE Twilight, have my midnight tickets in hand, yes indeed I’m one of those people ;) Taking my daughters, too. Something I really can’t do for True Blood (in public heh)
I adore Jacob, and at at the risk of soundig like a big, fat pervert I think the kid is adorable. He worked his ass off to get into werewolf shape and that impressed the heck out of me. The Volturi rock, love them, but if I HAD to come down on a side *shudder* I think the TB vamps would destroy those vegetarian Cullens :P
Thanks for this fantastic read. It was very funny! Every time I see Taylor Lautner I will think if Llamas! Poor boy! I saw him at the Scream Awards and thought he spoke well.
Thanks Honey, nothing like a good laugh in the morning. I’m thinking when the girl? wrote her letter she never expected so many people to laugh at it.
Jacob = Llama LOL
At some point she’ll re-read that letter and want to die of embarrassment.
Genius article in every way. Thanks for posting it, I got some great laughs out of it. All true!
Welllll, not to be nitpicky, but Alan Ball said that in TB werewolves are shifters who turn into wolves. Basically they’re the same kind of creature in both franchises. So they got that wrong. But, I’m with ZZ. The franchises are geared toward two different demographics. And one was written by a Mormon. So, that explains the none sexy times in Twilight. Personally, I like my vampires grown-up and horny :). Twilight is for the kids so let them have it. When they get older they’ll all turn in TB fans.
And on another note I quite like that Taylor Lautner. Seems like a nice kid.
in the books there’s that whole werewolves thinking other weres and shifters are just not just quite the same (or as worthy) as the wolves. It’s an interesting dynamic.
Ok, I’m team Jacob and he does NOT look like a fucking llama (or alpaca) godamnit!
[yall know this is a joke though right?]
*brought to you by the academy of university seeking to take the apostrophe out of y’all
Yes, he does seem like a nice kid, but it’s too late! I shall not look at a llama or an alpaca in the same way again!
hahaha
I won’t touch Twilight with a 10 foot pole.
I’m that stubborn. :D
I won’t touch it with a 10-foot pole or a flaming d***, for that matter.
A-frickin-MEN to this! AMEN! My thoughts almost EXACTLY from this article. lol! This is why guys like it! woot!
ROFLMAO!! :P
My god that is too funny lol :D
Fantastic LOLZ. While I read all the Twilight books and saw both films, the moralising annoys the shit out of me. Some seriously fucked up messages about sex, relationships and feminism (or lack thereof) in that genre. Plus Edward is a douche. Heh heh, they said rabid…
I tried to read the “Twlight” series but was rushed to the hopital due to anemia. Had to have a “True Blood” transfusion.
Funny thing is that I was reading Twilight when I was confronted with True Blood for the first time… I did not read the last 15 pages of the book!
LOL! Taylor Lautner is a werellama!
I read Twilight and then had to bleach my front lobes. Great article, esp the letter ;)
lol, frontal lobes is what I meant!
I’ve seen the first Twilight movie and I can see why teenage girls love it…but it’s no comparison with True Blood in any way for me! But then I think that’s the idea.
If I was a teenage girl, I probably would go for the Jacob character. Taylor Lautner is a cutie.
“Comparing Bill and Eric to Edward and Jacob is “… kind of like comparing an ice sculpture of a malnourished swan and a broken piece of treated back porch flooring to ferocious hell-demons with flaming d***s.”
oh so true…
the d***s
the d***s
the d***s are on fire
we don’t need no water
let the *other*udkers burn
and bill is especially sizzling
I hate being bullied into a corner I love True Blood, Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, I don’t know why there is always this argument, if you have read the books from all three, the common ground is that each have a love triangle at the heart of each story, Eric/Sookie/Bill, Edward/Bella/Jacob, Stefan/Elena/Damon, thats what I love about it and of coarse hot vampires!!
“… kind of like comparing an ice sculpture of a malnourished swan and a broken piece of treated back porch flooring to ferocious hell-demons with flaming d***s.”
I adore this line too. So Edward is an ice-sculpture and Jacob is a piece of flooring? Obsurd and random and the highlight of my day.
In the Fangtasia photo in the article, it looks like Bill has a man-bag. That cracks me up for some reason *sniggers*
Okay ladies, settle down. I agree there is no comparison, nor should there be to begin with! It is about preference and different age categories. I’m sure if my daughter was a tween, she be would be into Twilight. I’ve seen both movies and she got to watch some parts. She is so into Bella and Edward. I’ve also read the books, I see no problem with them at all. Yes, young, but in the end arn’t we all sucker for romance? no matter where it is coming from? However, TB is for the mature crowd, or so we hope. Definitely not a show for the young. Way too delicious, naughty and sinful, and yes we eagerly wait for its return, oh yeah. Twilight fans deserve their own idolations. TB is ours…
It’s funny how nobody talks about how much True Blood rips off Twilight to no end!!! The books people not the movies! Group of 3 basically evil vampires – Twilight w/man w/woman b/man, True Blood w/man w/man b/woman, Twilight Bella, True Blood Suki, Twilight Edward, True Blood Eric, Twilight small slightly redneck town. True Blood small slightly redneck town, Twilight crap acting, True Blood crap acting. Do I really need to go on?! Guys only watch True Blood so they don’t feel gay for liking Twilight’s story. I’ve read the books as I read many books, they’re extremely well written, violent, suspenseful, and the movies don’t do them nearly any justice now that they’ve casted two teenage heart throbs. Sit back, smoke if you have to, and open your mind to new things for christ’s sake.
