Hello there, patient True Blood fans. Here is the second half of our interview with the fabulous Kristin Bauer. Diverse topics are covered, including hunting for a man, dickheads in giant SUVs, desert island movies and when our favourite show will be back on television. Oh, and how everyone wants more Pam in Season 3. Enjoy and leave a comment to say hiya to Kristin and we’d like to thank her again for taking the time to chat with us! Pam rules!
You studied Fine Arts in Boston, NYC and St. Louis. What made you decide to switch to acting?
The only reason really, initially, was just to eat. I’m kind of a blue-collar actress, I’m very practical about it. I act for food. As a painter, and a sketcher basically, you know I was pretty poor. I was working many jobs and had many roommates and was often eating ramen noodles. I moved to LA from the east coast because it was an easier life here. Apartments were cheaper and the sun was shining, on the east coast I didn’t have a car and I was always taking the bus in the rain. Life was harder. In Boston I was hauling my stuff blocks to the nearest Laundromat and the quarter machine never had quarters in it. And half the time you come back 30 minutes later and your laundry has been moved or it’s gone, or it’s soaking in water because the machine broke.

Kristin on her wedding day...aww!
Yeah, laundromats suck!
And I was always living in some terrible neighborhood because it was all we could afford. At least here you know I could be poor, but at least be in the sun. And so then I got, by complete accident, an acting job and I just said, “How much do you pay?” Because I was working three or four jobs and they paid me more in a week than I would get in a month working my other four jobs.
Wow, that’s amazing.
And it was probably was not very much pay, but to me it was a lot.
So you’re still painting in your spare time and you’ve done some commissioned portraits. What is your favorite medium to work in? Do you work with any galleries?
Well I love… you know most of my life I was drawing and then I started painting and I quickly found oil paint and I really love it. I love painting people, flowers, cars, and dogs, whatever. It was always my secret for years that I do this until few years ago I thought, “I’m going to tell people.” So I put up the web site. At the time it was just to introduce my painting. And then people started to ask, “How much would you charge?” So when I’m not working I’m always painting somebody, something or some place.
That sounds actually quite restful.
It’s incredibly rejuvenating. And right now, a friend of mine, my best friend for a very long time since high school. He’s doing a little art show, and he said, “Would you put a few pieces in?” And I said “sure!” Well, now that’s two weeks away on September 26th and I have three paintings done. So, every moment I can I’m in there painting. It will be in LA (www.anthonysartandframes.biz).
So your official web site which you initially started to get your work out there, you’ve kind of expanded and now you have a blog?
Yeah, hah!
Apparently it’s really hilarious and snarky, which I totally appreciate. Do you spend a lot of time online in general? Do you ever look at the message boards and read what people say about the show and your character?
I did last year, I just wanted to see if people were talking about Pam, so I typed in Pam and saw that there were pages, so I thought, “OK, good, now be smart and walk away.” But I kind of glanced and saw a couple of really nice things, and then I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Angelina Jolie, and I was like, “Ooh, what’s that? it said, Doesn’t Kristin Bauer look like Angelina Jolie? And I was like, “Wow!” And then the next line said, No, Kristin Bauer is blond and heavier.
Oh, that’s nice!
I went from high to low to still pretty damn good because I thought, well everyone’s heavier than Angelina Jolie. Right? So then I felt pretty good again. But my nieces asked me, “Do you know you have a fan site on Facebook and do you know that there’s this Pam on Twitter?” So I did look at some of it and I saw so much incredible well wishing for our wedding, and that was really sweet. I’m not very savvy about online stuff and I just started that blog, and I was going to attach it to my site. I didn’t even really know if anyone could really find it. So when you said you found it, I thought, “Oh! I guess people can find it?!…Yikes!” I better take it down or write more.
We talked a little bit about the environment already. What organizations do you devote your time to and how do you involve yourself with them? Is there any advice you would give to anyone who’d like to involve themselves in these charities?
Right, because we’re in hard times right now, not a lot a people have extra money but there are things we can do. The campaign I am working on to help whales is one. the International Fund for Animal Welfare is doing a fun campaign that Alexander contributed to as well. You just take a photo of yourself, holding your hands under your chin in the shape of a whale tail.
Yep, I have seen those.
Yep, and you just email it in to www.tailsforwhales.org , its supporting a bill recently introduced into Congress to let your politicians know in a fun creative was that we really do care about whales. This bill can help avoid unnecessary deaths – things like getting big ships to slow down in their breeding grounds just like we do in a school zone.
I heard about the blue whales that travel up and down the Pacific coast and get hit by ships.
They get hit by ships literally, like children getting hit in the streets. It is a really smart campaign because the only other way to let politicians know we care is to sign petitions, which is great too but this is more fun and compelling.
In the southern hemisphere we get very concerned about the Japanese whaling. It happens in our backyard in the Southern Ocean every summer.
Oh my God and have you watched Whale Wars? Have you heard about the Sea Shepherd guy?

Kristin and hot South African import hubby.
Yeah, I love him. He is amazing. Yeah, he is a direct action, unconventional kind of protester.
He’s like the John Wayne for our oceans.
I know. I think more people should support him. I mean his methods are unorthodox – he actually attacks the Japanese ships by spraying them with some disgusting rotten food, its hilarious.
Yes, its rotten mayonnaise or something. He’s amazing. But right now what people can do is mail in their photo to IFAW making the whale tail (www.tailsforwhales.org).
The other thing we can do is just not look away and be informed. Because everyday we buy something and are supporting some company that are doing good or bad things. Just find out. Every company on earth does everything they do just to win our favor.
I’ll ask you some questions, some girly questions about your recent marriage. You just married Abri van Straten the, a singer from South African acoustic rock band, The Lemmings. Can you tell us about your wedding day? Where did you spend your honeymoon?
We went to the north woods of Wisconsin with my entire family. It was really great. We went to this wonderful resort, Ross’ Teal Lake Lodge, that’s very environmentally conscious. it was so beautiful. My wedding day was on my mothers 45 acre farm in Wisconsin.
So not your traditional kind of wedding, which I always find rather dull.
And we wanted everyone to have fun being part of it…and Audrey Fisher from True Blood arranged for my wedding dress. I had seen a picture in a magazine of this gorgeous Alberta Ferreti dress, Audrey gave her hearty consent and then hooked me up. I tried on one dress and it was perfect.
You heard about your husband, well we gathered from your website, when you were a nutritionists office, is that correct?
Yeah, I sat down on his CD! Little did I know.
And then you introduced yourself through the band’s manager. Were you already on a hunt for a date or were you just trying ot be friendly?
Oh no, I was on a hunt for a date…I was on a hunt, like a Pam hunt.
That is so cool.
I had been single for four years! I was so aggressive because I had reached a frustration on this whole dating thing.
Yeah, its like how do I get a guy. Should I go out on the hunt for one?
Yea, that’s what I did. And I tried different things. I had gone on many blind dates and I did match.com for a couple of weeks. I tried all sorts of things over four years. Half of that four years I was feeling very zen and happy to be by myself but that particular week I was over it.
Well when you meet a lot of weirdos through those blind dates and dating sites.
I realized it was just a virtual bar for people over thirty. I don’t miss the bar scene so very quickly I realized this was not people looking for their soul mate on average.
You NEVER meet a good man in a bar.
Well I never did and I didn’t want it to be a numbers game, I wanted it to be more like – universe you know what I want and I am looking for in my soulmate and I am not going to compromise, so a little help please! I met some lovely men over the past four years and a few goofballs. I knew very quickly that Abri was for me.
That’s great. So is it true you really tied him to your radiator?
We joke that I really tied him the espresso machine because he is a coffee-holic.
How would you describe Abri’s music? Would you like to hear some of it on the show?
I would love to hear his music everywhere. I fell in love with his music first. He writes classic songs like James Taylor and Sting and he has this beautiful voice and that accent!
Would you ever propose the use of his music to the music director on True Blood?
You know, I didn’t think of it but its actually a great idea. I should probably start leaving CDs around the editing day.
Do you have any future projects in the works that we can look forward to outside the show? That you can tell us about.
I did a movie last year called “Subject I Love You.” It’s a really cute teen love story with Briana Evigan and I am working on Private Practice this week.
Oh yeah, I heard that that’s a really good show.
Yeah you know, I hardly ever get to see TV with my schedule but I heard its a great show.
Have you got anything else lined up during the break, are you looking or you just thinking about kicking back and painting?
I’m going to try to paint because I have this show in two weeks. Abri is recording a solo record and we are also writing a screenplay.
Oh, that sounds cool.
Yeah, its really fun.. Its the fictional version of our romance. his solo record is the inspiration for the soundtrack. So, I

Fabulous wedding dress, acquired through Hollywood connections!
really hope I get some time to finish that because it is very hard during the acting season to do that.
Yeah, it would be too distracting.
That would be amazing if I could get that done before True Blood goes back to work.
It’s going back to work before Christmas I believe. Is that true?
That’s the rumor that I have heard too.
We fans are a little worried about going through withdrawals when season 2 is over with. Can you give us any hints about when we can expect to see season three? I won’t ask you what’s in it because you probably don’t know, but I was wondering if you knew when they are planning on starting to show it.
Well I heard a rumor, which I don’t even remember where I heard it that they are going to try to get the scripts ready so we can start shooting earlier so it can be out earlier. But that’s just me completely speculating. I’m going to have to get a Blu-ray player just to be narcissistic.
So if you haven’t watched the whole season yet you will probably amuse yourself for a bit. We’ll all be doing that during the break.
Yea, I think we will make it but it won’t be easy. The writers are probably working around the clock but for me, for the actors, its a little easier.
Yeah, it sounds like it the best job in the world. Hopefully we will see more Pam in season 3. We kind of missed you because you weren’t in Dallas.
I know and when I heard in the books she does not go to Dallas I was so sad.
Yeah, I guess Eric left Pam behind to look after the bar.
I guess… I was like well why can’t he hire somebody?
Yeah I agree. Well we fans want more Pam stuff for season three. So tell them!
I’ve seen that online. One of the producers, said “Did you see on the blogs people want more Pam.” I said well I am kind of afraid to look but I thought, wow, thank you everybody! It does make me feel good.
We have some fun fan questions to finish off the interview if you don’t mind. Who inspires you? Who do you look for, for inspiration in everyday life?
Yeah, that’s a good question, because so many people do. I am inspired by the triumph of the human spirit. I’m inspired when I read a book that’s really well written, East of Eden recently slayed me. I’m inspired by people who persist and don’t give up. Alan Ball picked up a book and then created this entire world that we can all now enjoy. I find it incredibly inspiring when we see in the physical universe somebody’s vision whether it be fiction or music or a cause, we see what they’ve imagined in to existence, because that’s not usually easy.
No, it’s not, it’s hard work. And I think that’s really inspiring too that somebody is so switched on to take a book and turn it into this phenomenon.
Yeah, to tune into something and create it, it’s pretty inspiring. You might not always agree with people and their viewpoint, but I can be inspired by the fact that they don’t give up.
What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Oh boy. If I had to pick one, I bet you, if it’s the desert island kind of scenario, I’d have to pick a John Wayne movie.
Oh really? You like cowboys?
I just love the old West. You know, the bad guy gets it and the good guy succeeds. What’s my favorite John Wayne movie? Aw, there are so many a good ones, and Jimmy Stewart too, right? The John Wayne movies that I watch are kind of embarrassing and cheesy but I just love them. There are also more elevated movies that I also love, like Philidelphia Story and About a Boy, but I suppose if I’m on a desert island I’d have to take John Wayne’s El Dorado. How embarrassing.
And I know you don’t watch a lot of TV, but what’s your favorite TV show of all time because there has been a few good ones?
Deadwood. More Western stuff, I’m just addicted.
Who would you most like to work with in the acting world that you haven’t yet?
I’d love to work with… there are so many great filmmakers, and Woody Allen of course is so brilliant… Ed Zwick, because he tells stories that also inform us like Blood Diamond…
Oh yeah, I love that movie!
It really changed my viewpoint. It let me know about things I didn’t know were happening that I’d rather not support.
I love any movie about Africa. Have you seen District 9 yet?
No! Is it good?
It’s amazing, it’s set in Johannesburg, and your husband will laugh a lot. It’s an alien film, but it’s a less conventional alien film.
Oh I love alien films! I have to tell you, you know Aliens, would be a very strong contender for a desert island movie.
Yeah, it scares the crap out of me but it’s very well done.
I love that movie, that or El Dorado, those are my two movies. What the heck does that say about me?
So, Woody Allen or Edward Zwick are the quality directors you’d like to work with.
I would love to work with them; I’d really love it of course.
My last question is a ranty question, what was the last thing that pissed you off?
OK! The other day I backed into, well, you know… I parked my car at Blockbuster, get in the car to leave and I back into the shiny bumper of one of those enormous huge pick up trucks that people should be hauling huge boulders in, but of course they’re not, they’re just driving around LA. It gets 4 miles to the gallon and has this huge metal bumper that is 3 feet higher than any normal bumper and he parks in a perpendicular spot, and it’s supposed to be a compact spot, so I didn’t look over my left shoulder I only looked over my right shoulder and I took out the side of my car and it was my fault technically. THAT is annoying.
But he had a big ass, ugly, gas-guzzling, pretentious vehicle!
Enormous car for no particular reason. I mean if he were a pool man or hauling asteroids I would understand. And of course the reason it makes me so mad is because it’s my fault and so I have to pick on him. But that was pretty irritating because that movie I rented cost me about $700.
Yeah well I really hate those giant trucks. At least in my country people use them to drive over the hills and haul boats and other shit like that.
Right, right. I’m a country girl so when I see a truck like that I know that the guy is hauling hay or pulling a horse trailer. So when we see it in LA, Wisconsin girls just rolls their eyes.
I’m totally with you on that; sounds annoying! Anyway, that is all I have for you today Kristin.
Well thank you so much.

So much fun! How cooll is it that she loves cowboys – Deadwood was a terrific series, loved it. I just adore her story about meeting/hunting her hubby – do they have the exact same color hair in the photo together or what? It’s fate :D
I agree with the rest – obviously – more Pam in season 3 please! If Eric really needs extra help so Pam can cut loose for a few episodes, I’ll volunteer to watch Fangtasia. For free!
Save the whales, ditch the big cars in the big cities, being proactive in romance and for the love of God, do not steal someone else’s laundry from the machines! Excellent advice…I adore this woman! xoxo
You know, that picture of them has that romance novel look to it. You know the beautiful, sultry female with that hot, flowing haired man?
Awesome.
What the hell? People steal other people’s laundry from machines? What’s the motivation behind that? Is it a brand of clothes shopping? Are they pervs? What the f*ck is wrong with people?! Heh, ok that’s an age old question to which there is no satisfactory answer. We’ll just fall back on old faithful; they’re stupid and immoral.
I’m truly thrilled she’s happily married, and wish her all the best. Her wedding photos are beautiful. (I love that veil.)
Once more I shall take up the mantra of More Pam Please.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to please the masses. We adore you and are anxiously awaiting season 3.
wow so maybe we have TB season 3 on Spring? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks Kristin, you are a sweerheart.
Pam you definetly should bring Abri’s music to True Blood, would fit very well!
sorry I meant Kristin!!! what was I thinking about??
MORE PAM!! Kristin, you are fantastic, and everyone should watch more John Wayne. Another good western series that was aired on tv was Into the West. Sad, but good.
