Denis O’Hare On RadioPlanet TV: Real Vampires Don’t Sparkle
By NotHoney on Sep 8 2010 | 10 Comments »This interview opens with Denis and one of the DJs speaking French. My college French is too rusty to pick up all of it so feel free to translate for us.
Denis talks about the differences between True Blood vampires and those sparkly ones from the movies, what makes Sookie appealing to vampires, and Sarah Palin would lose to Russell. The interview is choppy but fun and Denis is witty and charming, as always.

The DJ guys and graphics editors were trying so hard to be hip and cool! It’s such a contrast to that girl who was standing in the background looking totally bored most of the time. Denis was funny, though! He has a quick wit!
English Translation:
D O’H: I speak French
DJ: What does that mean?
D O’H: What does that mean, it doesn’t mean anything. How do you say “vampire” in French?
DJ: It’s like that
D O’H: What, one says “vampire” like that?
DJ: Ohh, what does that mean?
D O’H: I don’t know
DJ: *weird duck noises*
Pretty weird conversation if you ask me, but yeah that’s the translation and I lived in France for a while so I am fluent.
LOL! OK, that is weird. Thank you very much though!
Yep, it seems it was only really Denis who spoke French, lol! And with a very small accent I must say! Good job!
Oh I thought the DJ asked, “what do you know how to say in French”, and that O’Hare answered, “I don’t know how to say anything”.Thanks for clarifying
Such an easy going guy and that was a wonderful interview. Did anyone notice that Denis’ name was misspelled at the end.
Denis is definitely excellent at accents. His French was near perfect. Doesn’t beat his superb Mississipi voice though…I love the way he talks in True Blood.
As for his German…sounds well pronounced to me, too, but it’s hardly a phrase you would pick up in language school. ;-) Maybe, it’s a line that Russell will spit out in the final episode. German can be a really nice language. :-)
Yeah, he has a quick wit. Quicker than both of DJ’s, that makes the interview very much enjoyable. The Sarah Palin comment at the end is glorious and sublime.
I loved the Sarah Palin comment. t made me laugh so much.
As for the German, Russell spoke it only once so far (well, more precisely, only once that I can remember) – in episode 6, during his conversation with Sookie about her powers. They were playing a game of asking each other one question in turn. Russell lost patience and interrupted Sookie with a sentence that sounded like ‘keine spiele mehr!’ (no more games!).
Yes, that’s right. He also spoke German in episode 4 when he visited the werewolf bar (“Now…you shall drink blah blah”) and supplied the gang with his blood. But I’m not sure, what he is saying. It doesn’t match with the subtitles and makes not much sense in this context. maybe the writers used google translator. :-)
