A review of Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris has revealed some book spoilers. Some really interesting historical re-writing is taking place apparently. Enter at your own risk.

Dead in the Family

Still reeling from the deaths of her fairy cousin, Claudine, and many others in 2009′s Dead and Gone, Sookie Stackhouse struggles with paranormal politics in her entertaining if slow-moving 10th outing. When Claudine’s triplet, Claude, appears at her doorstep, Sookie reluctantly allows him to move in. The government threatens two-natures with mandatory registration, and tensions run high in the local Were pack. Then Eric’s maker, a Roman named Appius Livius Ocella, arrives without warning, bringing along Alexei Romanov, whom he rescued from the Bolsheviks and turned into a vampire. Though the action often builds too slowly, the exploration of family in its many human and undead variations is intriguing, and Harris delivers her usual mix of eccentric characters and engaging subplots. Guess we’ll all have to wait until May to find out… or while we?

What? No word of The Man? *sobs* What’s a Belle to do?

    • Lividity says:

Seriously I think a Belle has to come to terms with ol’ CH throwing her boy off the bus… again.

Or, perhaps the reviewer, like so many others, really doesn’t care or focus much on him as they are basking in the glow of the Viking’s glamorous aura?

  2. Julie says:

UGH!!! What about Eric and Bill??? I can’t take this anymore! LOL

Doesn’t Charlaine know by now what we wanna see??

    • Lividity says:

Hey Julie, I took this spoiler to mean there is a lot of Eric in this book. Eric’s maker and little brother? I’m thinking that is the main focus and hence, Eric’s family is the family in the title (well, and Sookie’s too).

  3. Julie says:

CH states over and over that she doesn’t write romances, yet, the hoopla over Sookie’s suitors dominates discussions. She needs to realize that she can’t keep stringing us along. Bill and Eric better be the focus of this book.
You can’t especially leave Bill poisoned, and have Sookie’s feelings for him awaken, and not address that.
Plus she is married to Eric and her relationship with him is in question, I need answers on both fronts.
I am SCARED to read this book now. Anyone else???? Am I overreatcting?

    • rose says:

NOOOOO i agree! im scared too. I want to see Eric and Sookie’s relationship grow into something FINALLY..and of course..what about Bill? I hope CH dosent disappoint.

    • Cranky says:

CH lies when she says she doesn’t write “romance”. I’d never read a romance novel in my life until I was gifted with her 8 book All About Sookie series last Christmas. Now I have!

Also picked up book 9 at the library and read that so now I’ve read a total of NINE romance novels.

Book 10 is obviously still about the triangle and Sookie “torn” between two lovers. Bill weak from the silver poisoning will have Sookies attention…since he SAVED her in 9 and re-awakened her love. But…she’s “wed” to Eric…not so big a hard-ship. The triangle lives on.

I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sookie needs all the help…saving..she can get. With another four books to come…I don’t understand what all the FAN “hoopla” is in aid of? Bill and Eric are both great characters…both need more “exploring”! CH does NOT need to stop “stringing us along” either!

At least not until the last chapter of her last (and my last) romance novel has gone to print.

  4. Melissa says:

Well this is even less apealing than the wikkipedia recap… Alexei Romanov, seriously, not even Anastasia but Alexei… OMG!!!

  5. konfettii says:

Claude moves in with Sookie….*snicker* Too funny!
I personally love the name Alexei, but I don’t think anyone outside of Russia pronounces it properly, myself included. I’m betting most readers will feminize it. Pity.
I like the thing about the shifters and politics. I think the strength of the series is in the way the ‘other’ is viewed, treated etc. Mandatory registration? Not like that sort of thing hasn’t happened before…. (she writes as she eyes the Census form that arrived in the mail today) :P

  6. lazyassninja says:

God, this sounds utterly thrilling. Nice, resurrecting a Russian tyranny. That really adds to the plot. That dreadful first chapter and now this unpreposessing description, sheesh. My boycott continues.

  7. Magdalena says:

Very interesting. The Romanov family thing has also been done in another vampire story- Blood+.

    • Bill'sCaity says:

Where can I find this story? I’ve been a faithful and obsessed True Blood fan since the beginning and a Russian history buff. This sounds like it would be right up my alley!

      • cassie says:

the book isnt out yet, its book 10 comes out in May, and u can read the books” the sookie stackhouse novels” through Amazon.com

  8. Olivia says:

yeah its really interesting that she chose the Romanov best known for his hemophilia. love it. and im glad she is delving more into eric’s background. he is just so much more interesting that bill (sorry bill fans). bill is interesting but eric has a lot of history. didnt CH say that she signed a contract to produce 3 more sookie books after dead in the family? she will and has to addres the whole sookie/bill/eric love triangle going on. dont worry! we will just have to be patient and i think CH writes so well; it will definitely be worth the wait!

  9. Danielle says:

I can’t wait for this book to come out. Kinda hoping she doesn’t leave it with so many unanswered questions lol. I love Eric’s character and I hope he’s who Sookie stays with. Though I fear since they are together kinda now they won’t end up together. Idk. Not a big Bill fan at all(no offense to those who are) I jus think Eric is more interesting and has so much left to discover about himself with hekp from Sookie. Anyway can’t wait till May!

  10. Lydia says:

Maybe I’m trying to connect too many dots here (oh first time poster so forgive for just jumping in)…But remember in Living Dead in Dallas after the Meanad brings her maddness at the orgy, Eric is talking about how bad it was when he was in St. Petersburg, Russia and having to stake (I think the vamps name was Gregory) another vamp due to the maddness that was brought by the Meanad…wondering if our buddy Callisto the Meanad was to blame for the death of the Romanov family…well, in Charlane Harris’s world and not the Socialist Revolution (smile).
