Cool Musicians Contribute New Material for True Blood Season 3
By CitizenErased on May 26 2010 | 8 Comments »True Blood is known for its eclectic, kiss ass soundtracks, and extreme show nerds know that every episode is named after a song. Rolling Stone reports that for Season 3, artists have been asked to contribute brand new tracks, including a collaboration between Lucinda Williams (whose song “Lake Charles” was in Season 1, fact fans) and Brit New Wave legend Elvis Costello, called “Kiss Like Your Kiss”. “It’s a love song, but it has an atmospheric, moody quality to it,” says Williams of the tune.

Man, they really need to release some more S3 pictures, this is getting repetitive ain't it?
The show’s music supervisor Gary Calamar worked closely with Lucinda to shape the song and suggested she collaborate again with Elvis as well the show’s in-house composer Nathan Barr, who added cello melodies. Barr believes the final version fits in well with the dark mood of the show. “Cello is central to the scores that I write,” he says. “If there’s not some cello or heavy guitar, it won’t sound like True Blood.”
The show hasn’t wrapped yet, and so its not known where the song will be used. But Lucinda hopes it will be featured in a racier scene to match the tune’s sultry vibe. “I want it to be a totally hot, steamy, lustful scene between Sookie and Bill,” she says. “That would be perfect — Bill comes back, and they have torrid sex. Yes!” Mmm, nice idea. Other artists appearing on the soundtrack include Beck (awesome), Eels, Bob Dylan again, and Robbie Robertson.

I have all the soundtracks to True BLood and listen to them constantly. I am still moved by the original score by Nathan Barr. His brilliant use of the “cello” , other string and piano accompaniments are so heartfelt and moving as to continue to ellicit a “ache in the chest” response from me, most notably the love music/themes for Bill and Sookie. “Bills Entrance”, just bloody incredible.
As to the soundtracks, they have all been wonderful choices and chosen well to fit the episodes. When ever I have “turned” a new fan to the show I always told them to make sure to pay close attention to the music choices, especially the closeing credits. What a wonderful idea to choose different songs to name and end every episode.
I look forward to the new soundtrack this season. If the last seasons are any indication, it wil truly be “kick ass” again.
I collaboration between Lucinda and Elvis sounds incredible. And PLEASE do use it for a great loving, sultry sex scene between Bill and Sookie. Their love story is so worthy of the deep soulful music.
As to the other noteable artists for this new season, Beck, Dylan, etc., all I can say is I cannot wait for more.
Me too! Me too! I want whatever the song is to play during a hot, steamy, lustful, torrid sex scene between Sookie and Bill. LISTEN TO US AB!!!!
DITTO!
I have the original soundtrack plus about 24 more tunes that weren’t included. I like what I hear, find it online, add it to the collection. Three of the songs on the S2 soundtrack are already in my collection, but I can’t wait to download the rest of them (waitin’ fer payday)! I’m especially thrilled that Lucinda Williams is on Team Bill! I love her album “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” and now I’ll have to get the one she did with Elvis Costello. Too cool.
Love Lucinda Williams & Elvis Costello! It must be a blast to put together music for TB. Gary Calamar has an awesome job.
I also have the CDs and listen to them all the time! I also love Nathan Barr’s cello and other instruments and of course Bill and Sookie’s theme IS THE BEST in the show!
I look forward to the new music and YES! YES! YES! Please use Lucinda’s song for hot, torrid Bill and Sookie sex!!!
I adore Lucinda Williams. I’ve been holding out that her wonderful “Jackson” will be used in S3 too. It’s so heartbreaking and perfect…
Cello, that’s my instrument! I swear, my family must be annoyed with me because I call it out whenever I hear it. I’m always curious as to who the cellist might be. I’ve been trying to google it. :P
