Charlaine Harris at Comic-Con 2010: Eric Wants
Sookie to Become a Vampire
By ZZ on Jul 23 2010 | 32 Comments »
Zap2it has a nice rundown of yesterday’s Charlaine Harris appearance at COMIC-CON 2010. Among other interesting things, Charlaine said that Eric wants Sookie to be a vampire. But the writer seems to have made up her mind as she stated that Sookie will not be turned a vampire. (Though we bet that she will be possibly be “turned on” by more than one.) She also said that she doesn’t like the whole “team” mentality because it’s “counterproductive” to what she’s trying to do in the books. (Though she didn’t want to make clear who Niall was referring to when he told Sookie that “The Vampire is not a bad man and he really loves you.”)
Also, for fans of the lemon juice squirtgun: “The reason why lemons are poisonous to fairies is that when Harris was writing a short story about them (fairies, not lemons) she wanted the thing that could foil them to be “totally ridiculous … Lemons are readily available. Why not make lemons the culprit?”
Also, in February 2011 Charlaine will publish a Sookie’s Companion Book containing:
Zap2it will have a follow-up interview with her Saturday, so come back to read more about Sookie and friends.

Just to correct you…he DOESN?T want Sookie to become a vampire….
Charlaine said that Eric will suggest to consider this option but we don’t know the contest.
If you had read book 10 you would know that Sookie already thought to become a vampire…
so mayeb try to be more faithfull to the news and checkd before….thanks.
Um T? Did you read the source material here? Charlaine said:
1:44 p.m. – Yes, Eric does want Sookie to be a vampire. He even says so in the current novel that Harris is writing. To him, it’s the next logical step.
Are you saying that the person reporting from the panel misquoted Ms. Harris?
We quoted the original article from Zap2it: “1:44 p.m. – Yes, Eric does want Sookie to be a vampire. He even says so in the current novel that Harris is writing. To him, it’s the next logical step. ” If she didn’t say that, we can’t tell as we were not at the Panel.
Were you there?
Can’t stand this woman. She’s a smart ass that needs to concentrate on her own franchise.
Ooh, harsh but somewhat fair ;) I think its been obvious for some time in the books that Eric would very much like Sookie to be a vampire, so her soundbite doesn’t surprise me.
Oh, who cares what she thinks?
I agree.
Emails between Bill and Eric should be quite interesting lol, I don’t know why I find it funny to think of them emailing each other.
T-videos are shortly making their way on youtube from her Q&A. I’ve seen on the net so many ways it’s been worded. It’s just the way it’s being reported, I’m not there so I have no idea her exact words but video should be out soon so we’ll see exactly what was said.
I can’t stomach her. I recently heard her say that Alan Ball took her books and “tweaked” them a little and added his own spin. WTF? Alan Ball took her mediocre books and turned them into a near masterpiece and she is now laughing all the way to the bank. She has nothing to do with the the True Blood series on HBO so I have no idea why she keeps showing up to all their events.
I find her juvenile and manipulative as a person and an “author”
Huh. I guess AB could have created those characters and places and the main story himself w/out her. Wonder then, why he hadn’t done it years ago. Why didn’t he just make up his own vampire story and leave everything else to the mediocre books. Interesting.
To tell you the truth I wish they’d leave the damn HBO reference and artwork off the damn books, cause you’re right thankfully one has absolutely nothing to do with the other at this point. Thank GOD for the books.
why does she show up? because if not for her we wouldnt have the show that we love…You dont have to like her, but have a little something called respect!!!
concentrate on her own franchise? yes ofcourse…thats why she had her own panel!!!
if you dont have anything postive to say about a post on here, or person associated with the books or the show, dont say anything!
the comment ‘concentrate on her own panel? yes ofcourse…thats why she had her own panel’ was not a comment to you…it was for ‘sia’
I also think AB bought the rights..so he has free will with whatever he wants to do with the characters. She gave him that.
I agree, she is making a hube amount f money off the books and the show.
I love the books and I love ‘True blood’, I cant get enough of both, HOWEVER… they are two very separate stories… I think that Charlaine Harris has come up with some great reading, her ideas are wonderful, although I think she needs to be carefully that it all doesn’t all go to her head…
I think that Allan ball has come into it and made them something very special… after all you can always improve on the original, thats my thoughts anyway.
Id like to see Sookie turn into a vamp, or something that means she can live youthful forever, it would be sooo depressing to see our favorite character turn old and have the cute men loose interest…. the guys would eventually not be as interested when she looks old and worn :)
not sure why people dislike her!
truth of the matter is…if it wasnt for her we wouldnt have the books and we wouldnt have true bood!!
have some respect for the lady!
If you dont like the books, fair enough nothing wrong with that. There is also alot of mis-interpretation about somethings that have been said. Till you meet a person, and actually know them, you shouldnt say shit!!!
and to say she needs to concentrate on her own franchise…well ofcourse thats why she had her
own ‘charlaine harris panel’… she answered questions about the books and its inevitable she will get questions about True blood also..
dont get into this hate her, dont like the books shit!
Be happy!!! happy we got this great entertainment we are all love!!
And, I totally agree with you. Like it or not, without Charlaine we wouldn’t have TB, or any of the characters we love so much.
people on here obviously dont know what respect is!
you dont have like some one, but respect what the lady has done. Its her wild imagination and her idea that started everything to begin with!!
Gray, “people in here” is multi-colored and has different opinions. Don’t attack everybody here just because you read some comments you don’t agree with. We never unrespected her in any of our posts.
my bad!!!
my comment was aimed at some people on here that are negative, not everyone. I know not all people that comment on here are negative like some.
Why is this a surprise?
It was pretty obvious by the end of Club Dead that he was thinking of turning her.
and if you read some things people have commented on this post, yes the things they say are disrepctful! If they had any respect for the lady, they wouldnt say such things!
Lets get away from the negativity huh!!!
We all are passionate and love True blood after all :)
Of Course Eric would like to have Sookie be a vampire! Would He be her maker? I’m sure he thinks her gifts would serve her even better as a vampire and he could more easily expoit them for his own benefit.
This is not to say that he doesnt feel something for her,It’s just Eric’s way I think
LOL wow what has she ever done to anybody? Funny to think somebody can hate a person so much they don’t even know, like she is some type of criminal. I understand people not liking a book, i’ve read plenty of books I don’t like or watched movies, shows i don’t like but I never hated the author, director, etc so passionately because I disliked the book, movie, show LOL. I HATE Titanic, maybe I should start a vendetta against James Cameron for taking a part of history and making it into a sappy stupid love story with 2 people who knew each other 2 damn days LOL yeah that’s real love, give me a second to barf with the stupidity of such a thing, yes I hate it that much lol. But I think most people would agree, if I HATED James Cameron it’d be wasted energy because it’s not that serious.
You don’t like the books ok fine, but there would be no Bill Compton to love if there wasn’t a Charlaine Harris. I’m also gonna guess most Bill fans LOVED S1, which stuck real close to the books, and will always probably be the season almost exactly like the books.
Antonio-how would Eric know if her “gift” would even still be present if she became a vampire.
nice to see some here agree with me! I cant understand why some here are so negative to the author? I would never have any kind of attitude to any1 I dont know. I guess you just cant change some peoples nature..good to know like you and alot of others here are not that way inclined!
Well Lets look at Twilight here for a moment. Aro desired for Bella to become a vampire because of her “gifts” Namely she was immune to All of the Volturi’s powers and persuasion She too could Not be “glamored” They Dont use That term in Ms.Meyer’s world! Aro to Bella: What an intriguing immortal you would make,my dear!’ Bella also was afraid that if she became vampire her desire for Edward would diminish …Nothing was further from the truth!! Her desire for him increased even more as was evident in Breaking Dawn!! Now, Sookie has these “gifts” some of which she has yet to discover…I’m sure that Eric suspects that becoming vampire (You’ll notice that I say Becoming Vampire as opposed to Becoming A Vampire) Will perhaps intensify her “gifts”…Make her stronger and more formidible, perhaps!
It was obvious Eric would like to turn Sookie both in the books and in the show for a long time.
Eric LOVED his maker. Pam LOVES her maker. Both Eric and Pam had “choice”. Eric would never turn Sookie against her will…but he has been trying to impress on her the many advantages of being a vampire one of which is getting to have sex with him for eternity.
Eric also contends that Sookie would make a really fine vampire…she has the temperament for it in his opinion. Sookie considers it.
No happily ever afters here.
IF Sookie is to remain with or Choose Eric she Should consider Eric turning her. However,It seems that In TB Anyway….Once they are turned they never bother with them sexually or romantically again?
Eric “made” Pam and yet in the show, anyway He never dated, had sex with,Or otherwise showed Any interest in her. It’s strange almost like a parent-child thing…He seemas to love her like a child which is Weird considering he took her life in the first place! Did she have a choice? We really dont know!
Maybe because Sookie is part Fae She cannot be turned or converted into Either a Vampire Or a Werewolf?
She is a kind of “supe” herself. A supe can never become another supe entirely, right?
ie a Vampire Cannot become a Werewolf vice-versa….
I’d just want to say thank you to Charlaine Harris and Allan Ball for my growing inability to stay on task at work or go to bed at a reasonable hour without a fix of True Blood or any of the 10 books. If this continues, I may need to start a support group…
All kidding aside, I think that Eric approaching the subject of turning Sookie is the next logical step of their character development. This will be the make it or break it moment for Sookie and Eric, and I’m looking forward to reading how it plays out. The last book was really about Sookie finally being comfortable in her own skin. Now it’s time to see where she goes from there. As well to those who are negative towards Charlaine Harris, keep in mind these are her books and she has creative control over what happens. Of course what’s in the books doesn’t always translate well to t.v. or movies. Allan Ball has brilliantly taken what is good from the books and explored areas that couldn’t be done in the books due to the style in which it was written. Yes there are details that are different between the books and the show, but the core journey of these characters that we love is still the same.
I’m not surprised by this. I just want the whole Eric/Sookie thing over with because I never thought Eric was the “one”. Sorry, I don’t want them to end up together.
I’m gald CH has said sookie won’t become a vampire.
I meant glad. LOL!
