Michelle Forbes who played Maryann, the now dead Maenad in True Blood seasons 1 and 2 has been added to the guest list at DragonCon. She will join Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis and Kristen Bauer.
DragonCon, a mega convention, takes place in Atlanta, GA, during Labor Day weekend (September 3 – September 6, 2010). The event considers itself, “The largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US.”
In addition to film and television personalities (yes, several Twilight stars will be there), this convention includes a wide array of fandoms including comics, art and authors. For fans of the paranormal fiction genre (and I know you’re out there), Sherilyn Kenyon, Laurell K. Hamilton and others will be attending. If you’re interested in this event, we suggest you start looking for a hotel now as the five host hotels are already sold out and so are three of the overflow hotels. You can find more info at their site.

Those lucky folks in the UK are about to discover True Blood season 2 for the first time beginning this Friday at 10pm on FX. And over at the Scotland Daily Record they have a little article with comments from Sam Trammell & Michelle Forbes about season 2. Nothing really new for us, but some interesting comments. I’ve included some of them below:
Sam Trammell
“Season two is really fantastic, it’s better than season one and is very exciting and very fast paced. I don’t know why it has become so successful – it must be down to the writing of Alan Ball (the executive producer and creator of the show) but none of us realised it would be this big and especially with the second season which became so popular.
“It’s different, it’s scary, it’s serious, it’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s bloody. It bridges so many different genres and there is nothing else like it on television.
“Not many programmes can mix the fantastical with very good drama but this has both, with social commentary and relationships as well as fantasy and these great creatures.”
“When I first read the script, I didn’t know about him being a shape-shifter. But when l found out, I was very interested but l didn’t realise l’d spend quite so much time naked.
“When you work for HBO, you have to sign a nudity waiver that says you will at least show your backside, so l knew there’d be a little but not as much as I did.
“It’s fun turning into dogs. I love dogs, and l have a little West Highland Terrier called Flossy – they’re the best, so smart.
“She is very helpful. In one scene last season, I had to sniff someone’s bed like a dog would, so l was rolling around on the bed naked, and l watched the dog to see how she would do it and got some good tips.”
Michelle Forbes
“I’ve never made such a dramatic debut in my life – you can’t ask for much more than being asked to make an entrance naked, standing in the middle of the road, with a pig.
“But it was a great way to start and because I came in at the end of the season and have been looking forward to the second series, I hadn’t seen the show beforehand or read the books, so I was clueless.
“It’s a great place to work, it’s such a rich and complex world and so much fun that it was easy to get used to it.
“Last time, everyone was introduced to the beautiful, diverse and quirky little town but the second season blows up into three different stories and my character Maryann is a bigpart of one of them.
“We see Bill and Sookie heading off to Dallas in one story, then there is the (anti-vampire church) Fellowship of the Sun storyline and then we have Maryann – there’s an extraordinary amount of things happening in season two, it’s so beautiful, entertaining and exciting.”

Two award events happened over the weekend, both took place at the Beverly Hilton. Ho-hum, I’m gonna group both of them in this post as True Blood didn’t win either.
1. True Blood was up for a 14th Annual Art Director’s Guild Award on Feb 13th. Kevin Alejandro (Jesus Valasquez, Lafayette’s new man) presented. As usual, Mad Men took the prize (Episode of a One-Hour Single Camera Television Series).
2. On Feb 14th, the True Blood episode, “Hard Hearted Hannah” was up for an ACE Eddy Award against a couple of episodes of Dexter. Dexter won. Michelle Forbes was there presenting and looked stunning as usual.

In this article published today by The Sun UK, Michelle Forbes mentions that she thinks that True Blood could run for nine seasons. In the article she also explains why she thinks True Blood is as popular as it is – and gives hints about her character’s motivations in season 2. The second season of True Blood kicks off in the UK on the FX Channel on February 26 at 10pm.
Michelle Forbes, who plays sexy Maryann Forrester in the vampire series, told TV Biz she thinks the award-winning programme has “enormous staying power”.
The 45-year-old explained: “There’s a possibility it will last nine years because Charlaine Harris has written nine books which the show is based on.
“But ultimately it’s up to the audience to decide how long it’s relevant. It has an enormous following in the US. There is a lot of stories to tell so I hope it’s around for a long time.”
And the former Star Trek actress reckons True Blood has been such a hit because it’s not just about vampires.
She said: “The great thing about True Blood is that it’s not just about vampires.
“It’s about a telepathic waitress, it’s about a shape shifter, it’s about a young girl Tara finding herself, it’s about the town’s deputy policeman who is tortured and longing for respect and love. It’s about love, intimacy and family.
“Vampires happen to be a part of it but it’s not just about them. The appeal for a lot of people is that it’s more the town with different creatures living together. There’s broader appeal for True Blood because it’s not just focusing on the vampire mythology.

More reporting/pics from the Out4Blood event last Friday. Gary Calamar reported in for KCRW public radio, Santa Monica:
KCRW DJ Gary Calamar also happens to be the music supervisor for HBO’s hit series “True Blood.” They celebrated the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the show last week:
The Out 4 Blood concert here at the Echoplex on Friday Night was a blast, with great sets by John Doe, CC Adcock, Jace Everett, Chuck Prophet and The Pillbilly Knights with The Morning After Pills.
Many of the actors from Bon Temps were there — Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Chris Bauer, Michelle Forbes, and Tara Buck. They all joined in the fun and hit the stage to introduce the bands.
There were a few bad vamps in the audience who tried to start some trouble, but they ended up retracting their fangs, drank some True Blood and rocked the night away.
