Kristen Bauer will be joining other celebrities at a benefit gala on October 23′rd in Los Angeles to support the Sea Shepherd. Paul Watson, the founder of Sea Shepherd, will be revealing what’s described as their “new, fast interceptor vessel that will join their fleet this winter to Antarctica.” This new vessel will replace the Ady Gil that was rammed and sunk by a Japanese Whaler’s security ship.
Kristin Bauer joins a rally in D.C. to save the whales
Kristen appeared on the show yesterday to talk about True Blood and her non-human animal activism including her work with IFAW for whales and with PCRM to protect chimpanzees and other primates from experimental torture.
As you probably know, the talented & beautiful, (and an artist for Nice Stakes!) Kristen Bauer Van Straten is married to a handsome and talented musician, Abri Van Straten. (OK, seriously I am not lying about the serious creativeness & prettiness all around). Right now, if you purchase Abri’s CD on Amazon, you’ll also get (for a limited time y’all – ’cause they cain’t do this forever) your CD autographed by Abri & an autographed photo of Kristin.
Abri’s (SUNLIGHT AND SHADOWS) is back from the press and it is so beautiful – inside and out!
For a limited time, starting September 1, we are including an autographed photo from me and Abri will also autograph the CD.
Not sure how long we can keep this up, but we will try as proceeds go to IFAW to help whales and also the African Elephant. (We are off to S Africa and will be working with IFAW Africa to see how we can help).
To buy the CD with autographs, after September 1, go to AMAZON.
Much Love,
And thanks for helping us help IFAW!
(And you’ll LOVE this music – includes a song for whales and a song for me! “Monet”)
Kristin and her husband, Abri, are in South Africa on vacation but took time out to work with IFAW on whale protection. During their visit they took a tour of Bot River lagoon, a popular hang out for Southern Right whales. The couple also appeared on MNet’s “All Access” program to talk about whale protection and conservation.
Last Friday saw them, Jason Bell-Leask, IFAW’s Southern Africa Director, me and a television crew heading for the high seas in Southern Right Charters beautiful new catamaran Miroschca.
We embarked from Hermanus, a small coastal town famed for offering the world’s best land-based whale watching opportunities. It certainly lived up to its reputation last week and enjoying a coffee overlooking Walker Bay sanctuary we spotted 12 Southern Rights blowing and breaching in the swells below.
But we were set on up-close and personal – although I’m not sure we could have guessed quite how much of both we were going to experience. …

Half-an-hour later Ken spotted our first whale, then another, and another and another – as the boat slowed to an idle we seemed to be surrounded by whales, some closer and others much further away.
One of the hallmarks of Southern Rights is their intense curiosity and before long, six whales had taken up sentry around us, lob-tailing and spy-hopping to take a closer look at a boat load of excited humans oohing and aahing at them. It was, quite simply, spectacular – and profound.
Why would anyone want to kill a whale, we wondered?
As far as the up close and personal was concerned – well, they were certainly up close, but the personal came with the amorous antics of one male trying his luck with a female who seemed to have a whale’s equivalent of a headache.
You can read more about Kristin and Abri’s adventures with the Southern Right whales and her appearance on a local television program at IFAW.com. Enjoy!
Kristin Bauer is involved in many organizations but one that stands out is Tails for Whales which is the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s campaign to save whales from extinction. Kristin is right now at Bitten Convention in London and then she will be flying with Abri to Africa where they will be doing some press with IFAW Africa trying to help whales and the Elephants suffering from the Ivory trade.

Kristin just tweeted (@MrsvanStraten) about a new interview she gave to The TV Chick. Just in time for Pam’s big scene in the Fangtasia basement, here it is:

After a week off for the holiday (hey, even vampires need some time off), True Blood returns tonight for what is sure to be some amazing blood-sucking action. The third season has gotten off to an amazing start with the introduction of werewolves, a King, and some vampires with questionable motivations (ahem, Franklin Mott). One of my favorite characters on the show, Pam, is taking on a bigger role this season. The fabulous, sassy, preppy, powerful vampire has had some of my favorite scenes so far. I recently had the chance to speak with Kristin Bauer (who plays Pam), about her character, working very closely with Alexander Skarsgard (her maker Eric Northman), and environmental causes that are very close to her heart.
I think Pam has some of the best scenes in the show, especially when she tried to stop Sookie in the season premiere.
Right?! I am so lucky to have such great words to say.
How do you relate to your character? She’s not human, but there are human elements to Pam.
Definitely, she was human 100 years ago. She was also very eager to leave that world once she saw the option of Eric’s power and immortality and she’s never looked back. That’s one of the things that makes Pam so much fun to play. She is un-remorseful, unapologetic, which are two traits some of us could probably use a touch of. She is, in some ways, who I wish I could be but alas, that directness might leave me very lonely.
What do you think Pam was like in her human life?
I have no idea, and hope to find out! But in my imagination – I see her as having been a true free spirit in a time where it was impossible for a woman to have any freedom of thought or movement. I am obsessed with free will, it is the basis of all my animal rights work and a hallmark of my beliefs. I believe in free will, very different than freedom. Free will implies choice as opposed to the absence of obstacles. I am pained by the cruelty of taking choice from any living being.
Pam is soft spoken but powerful at the same time. How do you find that balance?
I have often noticed that the most powerful one in the room can be the one who appears to care the least, and is often the most under-spoken. Power is not always loud or trying very hard. I guess power doesn’t have to.

Kristin and her husband, the South African musician Abri Van Straten have been involved in the campaign promoting and participating at events to let people know about crimes committed against whales. She spoke yesterday at the Earth’s day event in Washington D.C to draw attention to whale hunting because the Obama Administration plans to support the proposed lifting of the ban on commercial whaling, to allow the Japanese and other nations to hunt whales in limited numbers. Currently, the Japanese hunt whales in the Antarctic under the guise of ‘scientific whaling’, contrary to international law. Attempts to get them to stop have repeatedly failed.
As we reported earlier,Abri Van Straten has released a song for the whale campaign, “Voices from the Blue” – proceeds will help protect whales. One thing you can do to help IFAW and join Abri and Kristin in their campaign, is to download the song. Abri, wrote the song especially for the whale campaign and you can get it on CD Baby. It’s a $2 download and the money goes to IFAW’s whale campaign. Tell all your friends to download this lovely song!
Kristen also asks everyone to call the White House and voice our anger at the lifting of the whaling ban with this message: “President Obama: Stop the sellout and save the whales!” Call the White House comment line at (202) 456-1111.
You can also write to your Congressional members and ask them to keep the whaling ban in place. Write to the White House via IFAW. Tell President Obama that you stand with 75 percent of Americans who favor a ban on commercial whaling.
Not enough? Still want to do more? Donate to IFAW directly on their Web site. If you really want direct action against whalers, donate to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Every year they sail to the Antarctic whale sanctuary and physically try to stop the Japanese from killing whales. This year they were highly successful, reducing the kill number by over half with their constant harassment of the whaling ships.
