This is essential to S4 why?

XFinity asked Alan Ball which episodes are worth going back and checking out before season 4 begins. He gave them a list of nine and the reasons why the episodes are integral. He said, “It’s tough because so much has happened before, and I also have this season and parts of next season in my head too”

So without further ado, here are Alan Ball’s most essential True Blood episodes for us to watch in preparation for S4:

Season 1, Episode 2
“This is the first time Sookie (Anna Paquin) drank Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) blood, and the first time they kissed.”

Season 1, Episode 5
“This has the Civil War flashback and told how Bill was made. Also, it’s where Gran was found dead.”

Season 2, Episode 4
“In this episode, Maryann (Michelle Forbes) threw Tara a (Rutina Wesley) birthday party and you finally got a sense of what she was up to.”

Season 2, Episode 9
“The key moment was when Eric’s maker, Godric (Allan Hyde) went into the sun.”

Season 2, Episode 12
“When Maryann was summoning Dionysus, that set the stage for a lot of what has happened since.”

Episode 3, Season 3
“Bill had hate sex with his maker, Lorena (Mariana Klaveno), and breaks her neck. We found out that that’s just really good sex for a vampire.”

Season 3, Episode 5
“This one featured the moment where Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) realized Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) is the man who killed his family. We had a lot of fun with the flashbacks to Eric and the Vikings.”

Season 3, Episode 9
“Eric killed Russell’s lover in this episode. Meanwhile, Sookie and Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan) had their big fight scene, which was great. And Sookie and Bill came together here.”

Season 3, Episode 12
“We had the reveal that Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) is a brujo (a witch). He and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) had already had their V trip, which is also important to remember for this season.”

I know this can be considered “old news” but if you are like me, you like any news about True Blood that you can get. Life Story magazine put out an issue mostly about Twilight, but there are 6 pages of an episode guide to Season 2, complete with comments by Alan Ball.

Alan Ball’s comments about episode 209: “I Will Rise Up”. “My favorite episode of [the] season. I love the whole story between Eric and Godric, and Sookie gets to see Eric’s human side. Then there’s the whole choice by Godric to move on; his attitude of, ‘I’m done and I want to embrace whatever is going to happen to me now, even if it means oblivion, even if it means the end.’ That last sequence was tough to shoot, because we shot part of it on a building rooftop in Los Angeles – where we basically had 20 minutes to get it because of the light – and then we shot part of it on a stage with green screen, then we went to Dallas and shot background plates so that you would have recognizable landmarks. Then there were all the special effects technology questions of how we were going to have Godric go up in flames. So it was tough, but I thought it paid off.”

I’d Wear Him Like a Scrunchie

In la grande finale of True Blood, a gas leak/aliens/LSD/bad booze explains all conveniently, Lafayette is the sexiest maid of honour, Sam the bull is kinda sweet and cuddly, Sookie wants those zombies off her lawn pronto, Bill is as romantic as Edward ‘Pussy’ Cullen except better because he actually puts out, Eric gets bossed around by a crazy bitch for a change and ding, dong…the maenad bitch is dead. Happy dance! Plus very predictable cliffhanger. Adieu, my favourite freakshow!

Well, Season Two is finally over, and I feel …exhausted? Sorta glad of the rest so I can process it all and maybe argue with myself out loud on the street like Mad Cat Lady from The Simpsons as to whether it was better or worse than Season 1? Hilarious, totally infuriating, very saggy and draggy in parts, with way too much time spent on boring shit like endless orgies, mythological mumbo jumbo, Tara and Eggs, and church geeks being well, brainwashed smiley douchebags. It was also heartbreaking, horny, fiendishly clever, very moving, downright stupid and incredibly manipulative.

Dead Can Dance & Sing: The Musical, Starring Vampire Bill Compton

Characters rose in our esteem, and fell. Book readers got pissed as if Shakespeare was being destroyed or something (seriously, they need to chill). There was bad make up and bad clothes and bad dialogue. Bill sung and played the piano and danced, which should be ludicrous but actually kind of worked, and I HATE musicals. Eric was consistently a devious, homewrecking villain but he did it in such a charming, uber hot manner that everyone loved him anyway. Plus he cried, and chicks dig sensitive bastards, y’know? All of the characters that pissed us off the most ended up dead, which was fitting, and the ones we love the most ended up in more misery and danger for us to worry about. A show vaguely based on silly books about vampires that involves this much emotional investment must be the most amazing thing on television, ever, and yes, despite my immense list of grumbles, I really think it is. I have given the writers and the actors endless amounts of snark over the last few months, but it’s only cos I’m rooting for them all.

Old, borrowed & blue - Who's who? You decide

With a heavy (NOT edible) heart and a bloody tear in my eye I shall begin to retell the story of the finale. Sookie is screaming her tits off yet again at bug eyed Lafayette and the (utterly pointless) ostrich egg on Gran’s bed. Vile Eggs and Tara scuttle off downstairs with the stupid egg while Laffy barks at Sookie to get naked and put a cheap, scratchy looking dress on. She reluctantly does and is frogmarched downstairs to join the bridal party. If she hadn’t done enough to trash Sook’s cherished heirlooms, Maryanne is now wearing Gran’s wedding dress. The key zombie witches are gathered around squeeing with excitement, and Eggs annoys me even more than usual by grinning like a retard. Fortunately Maryanne sends them all outside so she can quiz Sookie about what she is, as she ain’t human clearly with that awesome white light zappy thing going on. ‘I’m a waitress, what the fuck are YOU?’ Best Sookie line in like forever, I just love it when our gal swears proper.

Nooo! Not Detective Bellefleur too!

Across town, Hoyt has booby trapped the living room so he can have a nap whilst preventing Momma from joining the party, which is assembling in front of the stinking wicker man/meat tree. Jason advances on the minions through the Stackhouse woods, spouting mangled yet inspirational quotes from action movies to rev Andy up, but nooooo! As soon as they step forth with their guns they’re nabbed by Terry and a pile-up of groping minions and they transform into black eyed bores as well. Seriously, after resisting for so long and doing vaguely heroic things? I’m gutted. Inside, Maryanne is disappointed that Sookie can’t do magic tricks on demand, and so just rambles on a bit about how she’s super stoked about getting married to God while Sook screeches indignantly and inwardly digests the fact that she’s not quite human.

Yahtzee contestant #2 is disqualified for sucking

In New Orleans, a fabulously bored Eric plays Yahtzee with Queenie, who prevents him from flying to Bon Temps to play the sexy town saviour to impress popular Sook. Sophie Anne bitches about how lame Bill is for being in love and how Eric better not bite Sook as he dearly wants to, as he might catch the ‘Sooookeh is maaaahn’ virus as well. More debilitating than Hep D, that virus, just look what it’s done to Bill, y’all. Cousin Hadley looks a bit sad that her lesbian lady friend has such a low opinion of vamps in lurve, and then the erratic queen gets enraged over Bill knowing of her and Eric’s secret V dealing racket, swats pretty blondie to the floor and crawls all over him hissing and fanging. This would be sexier if her fangs weren’t so ridiculously huge. Is she Pussylover, then? The Viking doesn’t look very into it and gasp, also a bit scared, and mutters something ominous about taking care of hapless Bill. Le sigh, they’ll never do bromance again at this rate and I love that. Why does he have to be such a prick all the time, writers? Anyway I’m totally confused by all this plotting and posturing and have no frigging idea whether the books are being followed at all. so I am meh until things become more clear. Queenie was slightly more scary and callous than last episode though, so don’t fire Evan Rachel just yet.

Vampire Bill parenting tip #22: Teacup humans need glamouring from time to time

Back in the Town of Crazy, Sookie is tied to a chair, apropos of nothing as she can’t get past the zombies outside anyway, and she is very upset that her nice boss is gonna get carved up like a novelty wedding cake. She asks WTF is with the egg, gets some dull explanation and is then forced to lick it. Eww. At Merlottes, Bill is pissed he wasn’t allowed to glamour the bratty kids to sleep, and is in no mood for Sam’s ‘nuh uh, don’t feel like being sacrificed today, thanks’.

Worship Him Bitches!

He pops fang and acts all masterful, but I’m sure he has a plan and isn’t going to have Sam killed for real, right? Flitting back to the shindig, here comes the bride with a shuffling Andy as the train bearer, some cackling bridesmaids and a struggling Sookie. Laffy mounts the meat tree, crowns it with the bull mask and orders everyone to ‘worship him, bitches!’ I LOL so hard wine shoots out my nose. Maryanne does a zzz speech to the impatient mob, and thankfully Bill rocks up and hands Sam over in exchange for Sook, who is unimpressed with her boyfriend as, despite his best efforts, she still don’t entirely trust him.

Sacrificial Sam

The meat tree is explained away as a giant womb for the god, oh okayyyy, and then Sam is brought forth all tied up and is stabbed in the chest by Eggs. Oh noes, my poor, brave Sam! Sookie wails, breaks free of Bill and runs to him, and picks up on his thoughts, which weakly tell her to go and trash some icky party decorations. She runs over to the tree, smashes the egg (yay!) and knocks the manky monstrosity over with her (possibly fairy) special powers.

Maryanne and her guests are outraged at this, natch, the poison claws come out and Sook legs it into the woods, hotly pursued by the pissed off bride. But then praise Jesus or Dionysus or whatever, a huge and rather cute bull emerges from the shadows and Maryanne lets off killing Sook as she thinks it’s her groom at last. It’s Sam of course, all healed up from drinking Bill’s yummy blood at what must have been lightning speed.

I is putting in a request for a Sam-Bill sex dream for Season 3, writers. Be consistent and bold, I dare ya. The clueless maenad offers herself for ravishment. and is gored in the guts and has her black heart ripped out in a deeply satisfying death scene. Hell to the yeah, I has been waiting for twelve episodes to see this bitch toast, along with the rest of the viewers! Everyone instantly comes out of their fun, swirly mass hypnosis, clutching their aching heads, goggling at their toga party clothes, stratching idly at their diseased private parts and wondering where the fuck they’ve been for the last week. Only the saviours of Bon Temps know, are Bill and Sam BFF now? Sweet. Oh and Sookie knows, and Jason, Andy and that needy headcase Tara also kinda know. They better get together and get their collective bullshit story straight.

Hey Bill, after you stop dying can you get all this crap off my lawn?

After briefly cuddling her semi-drained boyfriend, stroppy Sookie starts snapping out orders to various exhausted and traumatised people to get rid of the Tales From The Crypt corpse and the befuddled townsfolk. Andy gets his badge back, Jane Bodehouse finds her finger, Eggs is unfortunately still alive (but not for long, thank the absent gods) and across town Hoyt finally realises his momma is just as much of a spiteful ole bitch when she’s sober. I was hoping to see Jessica at the orgy to deal out some bitey fun but alas, she’s sulking somewhere.

Hoyay Sam & Bill dream sequence for Season 3? OH PLEASE AB!

Inexplicably, Sookie seems to forgive Tara all her crimes straight away, which she definitely does not deserve. Everyone watching the show hates her guts after loving her in Season 1, so we need a good redemption story next year or she’s a dead loss. Sam is crying on the porch after his near death experience, but Bill turns up and acts all gracious and hotter than chilli fries, kind of cheering him up. The long night then ends with a aww romance moment when Bill spoons with Sookie upstairs. Forty minutes ain’t long enough for good smut, especially after the evening from hell, so I don’t grumble too much. They’re gonna bribe me with more pearl clutching romance later on so I don’t even grumble at the buzzkill cliffhanger ending. Sneaky hmm?

It’s daytime, and everything is miraculously back to normal. Ole Charlaine is cameo-ing at the bar, Sookie and Tara are back at work, Jason and Andy declare themselves the heroes of Bon Temps, and Arlene is bribing her neglected kiddies with lots of deep fried treats. Maybe fairies came along and cleaned up the skank ass mess everywhere? This seems like a very unconvincing conclusion to the chaos without a ‘two weeks later’ disclaimer, but it is mildly saved by the two fat redneck chicks gleefully speculating over WTF happened and drooling over Sam, Terry’s awesome t shirt and Lafayette being his sparkly, cynical self. Uber fed up Mr Merlotte asks Sook to look after the bar so he can go on holiday and find his parents, which will give him something to do next season, and our obliging telepath/something else weird agrees. Because she’s so lovely and irresistible to everyone, she subsequently gets a surprise delivery which she skips outside to open. A pretty dress and a note from Bill, who must have been real busy with his cellphone in the hidey hole as how the hell did he arrange a dress and a bed and breakfast with French cuisine and dancing music? I nitpick, but I’m charmed out of my panties really. Then Eggs ruins the girly moment by turning up and freaking out of his empty gourd about all the hearts he’s stolen recently. Sookie has another nice but dim episode by reminding him of his killing spree at his request, and yep, he got hoodoo bus lady as well as Daphne and almost Sam.

Don't cry over spilt Eggs

Dusk falls, and Jessica is dolled up and ready to go out. I will give props to Bill for buying her such gorgeous clothes, as her cutey pie dresses are actually better than any of the stuff Sookie wears. Aww, he’s a bit of a deadbeat daddy but he has good taste. Suited and booted and wearing a gay tie, Daddy catches Jess on the way out and they have a long overdue bonding moment. They’re adorable together, but alas the sadistic writers have sinister plans for these two. Jess has succumbed to her crazy vampire impulse control issues and would much rather feed off truckers than go and make nice with Hoyt, and Bill’s glowing happiness is only going to last another couple of hours. In an unnamed location, Sam is calling on his step parents to get the names of his apparently bad real parents. Back at his bar, Eggs tries to give himself up to Andy but his shouting and waving the murder weapon around gets Jason all confused when he comes outside, and he finally gets to use Kid Glock. Eggs is dead, saving us all from his tedious company but Tara was rather attached to his ripped abs so she falls to pieces for the zillionth time. Great, she’s going to be a basket case and complete pain in the ass all next season isn’t she? For the last time, I want sweary Tara back NOW.

OK bitches, I said ALMOST as good as sex

Now I have explained all the mini-cliffhangers, I can move to the OMG hot-OMG I can’t believe he just did that- what the fuck is WRONG with you Sookie-noooooo Bill cliffhanger! Yeppers, I’m fond of the idea of this couple, since the show creators sold them to me so well in Season 1, so I’m a complete teary eyed mess of aww at Sookie and Bill’s nice date. First of all, that dance was a fairly good substitute for sex, as there was enough deep smouldering glances and chemistry zapping around the room to light up Sook’s magic hands. And then after she scoffs her expensive dinner, the unexpected happens. I was sooooo not seeing that coming, and neither was Sookie. On being presented with tickets to Vermont and an engagement ring she spazzes out, weeping and dithering while Bill’s dead heart grows a few more cracks.

Who stole Bill?

Like all cornered women, she bolts to the Ladies, taking the ring with her (LOL!), leaving the most romantic vampire evah to wait in waning hope at the dining table. While she weeps, smiles, preens and makes up her mind in the bathroom mirror, some scumbag takes poor Bill out with a silver chain and drags him off into the night, and when Sookie comes out squeaking yes baby, I’ll marry you, its too late. Dun DUN! Eric, Lorena, Queenie, or a combination of all? Prepare the rescue squad! If anyone does anything horrible to Bill I’ll fucking handbag them, bitches! I shake my fist at the screen for the last time this year, and we end.

Now my work is done here, I shall leave you with my personal list of bests and worsts (in no way indicative of the views of this site, or in any way logical, so no nitpicking, nerr). Feel free to post your own in the comments below. Goodbye, my dear, darling, sexy ass readers, and I will see y’all in 2010, um maybe?

Many hints about what is going to happen in season three of True Blood, some questions answered and you’ll never believe who Alan says kidnapped Bill.

::::May Contain Spoilers:::

Some folks were surprised by the structure of the finale and your decision to wrap up the Maryann story in the first 30 minutes.
ALAN BALL: I try to look at the show as basically almost like it’s a novel, and each episode is a chapter. I guess I’m influenced by the fact that when I watch TV shows, I watch the [DVD] boxed sets. Ultimately, it’s just organically the way it worked out. And the season finale last year was very similar.

Why wasn’t there more Eric in the finale?
BALL: There is a reason for not seeing Eric in the last part of the episode, but if I explain it, I’ll be [giving away] too much.

Will he be prominent next season?
BALL: Yes. Although, when I saw your[ latest posting], for a moment I thought, we’re going to have to kill Eric, because you are the man. I thought wow, I had many seasons of Eric planned but I guess I’ll have to off him. [Laughs]

Speaking of which, are you surprised at how passionate the Sookie/Eric fans are?
BALL: Yes. I try not to get involved in that because it just sort of — it’s too confusing. I don’t want it to influence what the show is. Personally, I’m like, yes, Eric’s hot, but beyond that he’s dangerous, and I don’t know if he’d love anybody besides himself. What’s the appeal there? The bad boy? The danger?

Why wasn’t Sookie susceptible to Maryann’s powers but Jason was? Do they have different parents?
BALL: They have the same parents. We will find out what Sookie is [next season]. There are such things as dominant and recessive genes. Maybe Jason is fundamentally human but he has a trace of some non-human stuff. He’s kind of a ridiculously perfect [human being]. He’s athletic and has that charisma thing, so maybe he had some help in that regard. [Laughs] Ultimately, if you look at percentages, he’s mostly human. Sookie has a stronger genetic predisposition in another direction. People who have read the books know exactly what I’m talking about. People who haven’t, it will be revealed.

What’s up with the Queen’s Yahtzee obsession?
BALL: You’re 400 years old. What are you going to do? [Laughs] It’s something we came up with in the room and we thought it was funny.

Fans are polarized about Evan Rachel Wood as the Queen. A big complaint is that she doesn’t come off scary enough.
BALL: She will. You don’t want to introduce a character you’re going to see later and blow your wad up front. It’s funny because the fans are so rabid. Of course, that’s fantastic. And the fact that they’re so completely wrapped up in the show and they get upset and they think, “I don’t like that! I love that.” It means people are watching and the show is really affecting them. I think of the show as having a long life. You can’t explain everything and blow your wad in the first episode the first time time you introduce a character. All I can say is keep watching. It will make sense.

Will she return next season as a series regular?
BALL: She won’t be a series regular, but she will appear. Every state has its own vampire royalty. We will meet the King of Mississippi. Interesting things happening between him and Evan’s Queen.

As much as I loved Michelle Forbes’ portrayal of Maryann, the story felt like it dragged on a little long. Why did it take her so long to get to the endgame?
BALL: That’s part of what the queen talks about. They’re always improvising. She really can’t conjure up a God. But she’s so fervent in her belief; she keeps trying this sacrifice and that sacrifice. She’s completely delusional. She killed Miss Jeanette and I think she thought that was going to work. She always thinks it’s going to work. It never does because the God who comes never actually comes. But she so fervently believes that he will, and she’s been believing it for thousands of years. That’s how they were able to outsmart her.

Have we seen the last of her?
BALL: Yes, she’s gone. They destroyed her. She will never rise — which I hate because I love [Michelle], and she was so much fun to work with. She’s really delightful and everyone loves her and we hated to kill her but we had to.

How closely will you follow the third book next season?
BALL: We take the gist of the books, [but] we will depart whenever we feel like it makes better television as opposed to reading. We continue to use the books as templates. But now that I’ve read all nine books there are things that are revealed in later books that we are moving up so that they’ll probably happen in the show earlier than they do in the books.

Will you introduce werewolf Alcide?
BALL: Yes.

Have you cast him?
BALL: No. We will also meet Sam’s blood relatives, the super bad vampire Franklin Mott, we’ll meet Debbie Pelt, we will also meet the people who live in Hotshot a little bit ahead of schedule. We’ve already broken four episodes and I’ve sent two writers out with scripts over hiatus.

Have we seen the last of the Fellowship of the Sun?
BALL: No. Just because Steve got humiliated, they still exist. And maybe he’s angrier than ever.

The fact that Jason killed Eggs has me thinking you might restart the Jason-Tara love story next season. Will you?
BALL: Certainly, Jason is going to be consumed with guilt. And he’s going to feel like, “I’ve ruined her life and I’ve got to make her feel better.” Whether that’s wise in any way shape or form remains to be seen. I think Tara certainly gave up on her obsession with Jason, but now that she’s dealing with the worst thing that ever happened to her, she might be more vulnerable to his charms.

Is Tara ever going to be in a happy relationship?
BALL: Happy relationships are boring. We all want them in our own life. But I don’t want to watch them on TV.

Any plans to give Lafayette a boyfriend?
BALL: Yes.

Anything imminent?
BALL: Nothing I can talk about. But certainly we will see more and more of Lafayette. He built a lot of walls around himself. But we will see him get vulnerable next year — and not just being afraid of Eric.

Any regrets killing off Godric? As I’m sure you’re aware the character was very well-received.
BALL: There’s no regret in killing him off because I think that [story was] really powerful. That was my favorite thing about the second book. However, we can always go back in history. He and Eric had a relationship for a thousand years. We can always go back and see him again.

Are Hoyt and Jessica doomed?
BALL: They still love each other. But there will be problems — as you probably could tell based on last night’s episode.

You do realize how awesome those two are together, right?
BALL: I totally know that.

How long do we have to wait for season 3?
BALL: It’s probably going to premiere around the same time it did this year. We’re going to try to shoot one episode before the Christmas break. I don’t know if HBO will bring the show back earlier, but it certainly won’t be later.

Is there anything I’m forgetting to ask you?
BALL: I’m surprised you didn’t ask who took Bill.

Who took Bill?
BALL: It was Hoyt’s mother.

Nelsan Ellis chats a bit about Lafayette’s mom and working with Alexander Skarsgard. We also find out that Nelsan has read the Sookie Stackhouse books and that he watches True Blood episodes 20 times. Hey! Just like us!

As the wild and largely enjoyable second season of HBO’s “True Blood” came to a close on Sunday, most of the residents of Bon Temps, La., wanted to put the insanity that had gripped the town behind them.

No one was more interested in sweeping things under the rug than Lafayette Reynolds, the cook at Merlotte’s, Bon Temps’ favorite watering hole.

Like most of the people in Bon Temps, Lafayette had fallen under the sway of the charismatic Maryann (Michelle Forbes), who was actually a creature known as a maenad.

Over a period of weeks, Maryann had turned more and more townsfolk into her unhinged acolytes, and though Lafayette had held out longer than most, he eventually succumbed.

[Events from "True Blood's" Season 2 finale will be discussed below. If you haven't seen the episode, be forewarned.]

Once the town’s maenad encounter was over — and it took a clever scheme from a vampire and a shapeshifter to engineer Maryann’s demise — most of the Bon Temps residents could not recall what insane or criminal things they’d done under her influence. And according to Nelsan Ellis, the Chicago native who plays Lafayette, that was just fine with the tart-tongued Merlotte’s cook.

“He tells [waitress] Sookie [Stackhouse], ‘I know you know what happened. Take it to your grave,’” said Ellis.

The actor, who was born in Harvey, spent much of his youth in Alabama, and returned to the Chicago area at age 14 to attend Dolton’s Thornridge High School. He later studied at Columbia College Chicago, at Illinois State University and at New York’s prestigious Juilliard School.

As Lafayette, Ellis has been a rousing success since
”True Blood” debuted in 2008. The character is a favorite among fans for his wit, his outrageous style and his ferocious desire to hustle his way into a better life.

Ellis couldn’t be less like Lafayette; the actor is humble and seems flummoxed when his status as a fan favorite is brought up.

“I don’t understand that, maybe because I’m so critical” of his performance, said Ellis, who watches each episode 20 times in order to critique his acting. But the attention is “very flattering,” he adds.

So what’s next for Lafayette? Ellis says he doesn’t usually talk to the show’s writers about what’s coming for his character, though he will mention to executive producer Alan Ball one idea he has for Season 3, which begins production in December. He wants Lafayette to get some flashback scenes with his mother.

“There are so many lines about how his mother treated [Lafayette],” Ellis said. “It would be nice if we found out in the flashbacks that she was a vampire.”

That kind of situation wouldn’t be unusual in Bon Temps, which is full of creatures that aren’t quite human. Sookie (Anna Paquin) can hear people’s thoughts, bar owner Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) is a shape-shifter, and Sookie’s true love, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), is a vampire — just one of many on the show.

Ellis has read the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, which were the original inspiration for the TV show, so he knows that in Harris’ third book, werewolves are introduced. But the third season of the TV show may not closely follow the books, Ellis noted.

“I think Alan has been great in keeping even fanatical readers [of the Harris books] on their toes. He’s changed things,” he said.

As Season 2 came to a close, Bill was kidnapped by persons (or creatures) unknown. Were they agents of Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood), the capricious vampire queen of Louisiana? She certainly wasn’t happy that Bill knew Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) was dealing in “V” or vampire blood, which, in the world of the show, is a powerful illicit drug. Sophie-Anne, it seems, is orchestrating V sales through Eric, and the more Bill knows about her V operations, the more dangerous that could be for her.

Whether or not the queen was behind Bill’s disappearance, as Season 2 closed, there were echoes of the end of Season 1, when Lafayette went missing. During Season 2, things got much more worse for Lafayette, who, at times, sold V in Bon Temps and worked occasionally as a prostitute as well.

“I didn’t understand why they took me in such a drastic direction [in Season 2], but then again, somebody who is used to being on top because of his charms — once he’s completely powerless to defend himself, that can be completely traumatizing,” Ellis said.

One of the things that traumatized Lafayette was being held hostage by the powerful vampire Eric. To heal wounds incurred while he was with Eric, Lafayette had to drink some of the vampire’s blood, which has healing properties. The result was a special psychological bond between the two men (a bond that was deeply uncomfortable for Lafayette, who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after being set free by Eric).

Ellis said he wouldn’t mind if his character was turned into a vampire, or if, at the very least, Lafayette and Eric have more scenes together in future.

“I love working with Alexander Skarsgard. He brings such gravity to a scene,” Ellis said.

And Ellis brings a lot of charm, skill and energy to “True Blood.” His parents may not be fans of the show — Ellis said his deeply religious mother and father don’t approve of their son playing a character like Lafayette — but the actor said he gets praise from unlikely quarters.

“I have the most straight-arrow men coming up to me and saying, ‘I like your hustle. Keep doing your thing,’” Ellis said.

Below are a few more thoughts from me, Maureen, about the “True Blood” Season 2 finale.

I had thought there was a good chance that the finale would be a bit of a mess, but what actually transpired was more organized and cogent than what I’d been expecting.

I’ve talked a lot in previous “True Blood” posts about how the central couple of Bill and Sookie don’t do all that much for me, but I have to admit, the proposal scene won me over more than I had thought was possible. Bill’s emotional vulnerability was touching, as was Sookie’s visible distress. She has been through so much, and her confusion was understandable, as was her ultimate assurance that Bill was the right man for her. It really capped what has been a gradual process during Season 2 — the mellowing of Sookie to the point where I actually don’t mind her, or even like her a little. I’ve always enjoyed Bill, but now I can see more than before why the two characters make sense as a couple.

So now I guess I’m invested in that relationship, which last season would not have remotely been possible for me. And now we have to wait until next year to find out what happened to Bill. That’s going to be a long wait.

As for Maryann’s “wedding,” well, that was “True Blood” in full-on crazy mode. That aspect of the show can be fun, but I’m glad those scenes weren’t dragged out. The way that Sam and Bill worked together to kill off Maryann was interesting, and I didn’t need to see any more of the black-eyed townsfolk, given how long that particular story line had been stretched out.

It was a bit ungainly suddenly stop with the crazy and then calmly revisit every character for the last half of the episode, but I did appreciate “True Blood” trying to close off or tie up all the open story threads.

The resolution that was least effective was the Eggs story line — why wasn’t he able to accept that all of the townsfolk did bad stuff when they were “under the influence” and thus weren’t accountable for their actions? Why didn’t Sookie have the sense to refuse to help him dredge up those memories? Why did Eggs have to, in his distress, throw a policeman on the ground and mime stabbing him with a giant knife, thus resulting in Eggs being killed by Jason?

Then again, every episode features a character or two or three doing something dumb because the plot requires them too. But as has often been the case this season, there was so much other relatively enjoyable stuff going on that I didn’t quibble over the sigh-inducing stuff that much.

I’m sad that Maryann is gone, mainly because Michelle Forbes is so wonderfully compelling in everything she does. But dragging out that arc any further would have been a disservice to the character and to the audience, so I’m presuming the maenad and her nutty parties are gone for good.

So to sum up, we got a wedding, a half-human sacrifice, a proposal, and a funny line (“You may have your faults, Andy, but at least you have your pants on”). We saw Hoyt finally tell off his mama and Jessica revert back to her teen-vamp-vixen ways. We saw life more or less returning to normal (whatever that is) in Bon Temps. We saw that Sophie-Anne and Eric are quite a devious team, and something tells me we’re not done with the diva-licious vampire queen yet.

So long, “True Blood.” Don’t wait too long to bring us another tasty jambalaya of drama, melodrama, comedy, crazy and creatures.

Although the time of reckoning is nigh for Maryann, Michelle Forbes continues to delight. In this latest interview, Michelle shares comments on how orgies were just another day at the office with a pervy bunny. Yep. That’s right I said bunny.

As Bon Temps’s resident maenad, Michelle Forbes has been freaking out True Blood fans since she appeared naked in the road with a pig at the end of season 1. But, “I’m really very nice,” she tells PEOPLE. “Everyone’s getting so scared when they meet me now. I could kill Alan Ball.”

How was this role described to you?
It just mentioned the more basic points of what a maenad is … That women of this sort tended to run through the woods tearing children and animals to pieces, and they were known as the “wild ones” and the “raving ones.” That was pretty much it.

Did that appeal to you?
It did! It didn’t necessarily line up with what was on the page and that was the exciting thing that sort of gets the hair on the back of your neck standing up. You start looking for a shovel because you just want to start digging to figure out what this riddle is all about.

What do you think of the current vampire craze?
In this age of vampires, what I love about True Blood the most is that it’s a post-modern take on it. Charlaine Harris and Alan Ball turned that whole mythology upside-down … It’s not just about vampires. It’s about a lot of different things. And that’s what I love about the show … It’s great to see the interaction between all these different creatures and humans.

Do you believe in supernatural creatures?
Not really. No.

If vampires represent forbidden love, what, if anything, does Maryann represent?
I think Maryann represents things going on in the real world since the beginning of time — Woodstock, Paris in the ’20s, the transgressive movement of cinema and music in New York in the ’80s — when people were just really trying to shed all moral boundaries.

Well, you certainly shed a few. How awkward is it to film those wild orgy scenes?
It sort of flip-flopped between very disturbing and just another day at work, as odd as that sounds. You just sort of get used to it and everybody was very respectful … At one of the orgies there was this bunny — there was a rabbit, who was just sitting there staring at us. We all kept saying, “Look that bunny’s still there.” And after about 45 minutes, I thought, “Maybe he’s hurt,” and I started to walk over to it and it took two hops and I was like, “Nope, he’s just a pervert.” … He was pervy Peter Rabbit!

Tell us about Sunday’s finale. What’s up with that egg?
What is up with that egg? I can’t talk about the egg! All I can say is that it was so much fun shooting it. We had one hell of a time. It was pretty surreal at times. I don’t want to say anything because I don’t know what people are expecting, especially after that last glimpse of that egg. It certainly went to a place that I wasn’t expecting. … You can’t say that our gang didn’t take a risk that is really exciting. All we can hope for in life is that storytellers take risks and tell the story that they want to tell and that they need to tell. I think that we did this. We took a risk and it’s bold.

Speaking about the season two finale of True Blood, Stephen Moyer says there “will be blood, cliffhangers & resolutions.” He also hints at something so crazy that even if he told us, we would not believe him. Oh really?

Playing a vampire on a hit show at a time when vampires are taking over pop culture is a “pretty sweet feeling,” according to True Blood’s Stephen Moyer. But working with his fiancée Anna Paquin is a real “glorious luxury.”

“We are very relaxed together on set, off set and that can only help with some of the things that we get asked to do,” Moyer says of their job, which often includes blood-sucking sex scenes.

Now happily engaged, the costars previously kept their relationship a secret on the set of HBO’s supernatural hit.

“We were very, very cagey,” says Moyer, 39. “We kept tabs on our own relationship, let alone telling anybody because we were very concerned about how it would play out given that anybody who signed up to do one of these series signs for seven years. So, you don’t take a decision like that lightly.”

Bill & Sookie

As the couple, who play Civil War veteran vampire Bill Compton and sweet clairvoyant waitress Sookie Stackhouse, realized there was something serious going, they decided to bring their relationship into the light of day.

“If there is an inevitability to something and there is absolutely no way that that thing can be halted, then you have to go along with it,” Moyer says. “When we realized it wasn’t just some fickle infatuation or chemistry or whatever, we were able to, months later, tell everybody that we were working with.”

There’s reason they’re called actors, apparently. “Everybody was shocked,” he said of sharing their news with the cast and crew, “so I think we’d done a good job of hiding it.”

As for True Blood’s season 2 finale, which airs Sunday (9 p.m. EST) on HBO, Moyer says there will be blood — and cliffhangers and resolutions.

“It’s everything that you would want from a season finale,” he says. “But I don’t even want to make a hint at something because it’s so f–ing crazy. I could tell you something that’s going to happen, but you just won’t believe me, so it’s almost pointless.”
