Anna Paquin Zooey videos publications cover anna paquin Anna Paquin covers the May 2012 issue of  ‘Zooey’ Magazine.

For having been in the public eye for 20 years, we don’t really know a lot about you.
I don’t know about that. There isn’t a lot of unchartered territory that hasn’t been covered or reported on or noted or observed.

Do you consider yourself mysterious?
Mysterious?

Well, private.
Sure. Not in some weird recluse way. I think it’s important to have things that are just for you and people that are closest to you. Some people share absolutely everything, but then what do you have left that’s yours? It diminishes what’s really special in your life.

Did you feel like you had to sacrifice some of the privacy you treasure in order to make a compelling statement for your Give a Damn PSA?
Absolutely not. I think it’s a really minor biographical detail. If you’re going to talk about some cause in a way that’s meaningful, you should identify why it means something to you.

The Sun: “Let’s give vampires their teeth back”

vampiresun publications bill compton

Saturday’s Sun newspaper in the UK features an article written by vampire expert Dr. Sam George, exploring “why Dracula creator wouldn’t recognise monster now.”  True Blood is referenced in the article, and Stephen Moyer’s Bill Compton is pictured, along with Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Gary Oldman as Dracula, James Marsters as Spike, and Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen.  Dr. George accuses Hollywood of taking the scares out of the vampire genre, stating that:

“America has tamed the vampire - he’s lost his cape and coffin.  Now there’s only his paleness, the white pallor, to provide a whiff of the grave.

Post 9/11, the anxiety-producing myth has given way to a consoling fantasy.  Perhaps we no longer need scary vampires now we have real-life terrors.”

Personally, I think that Dr. George has got it all wrong.  The sympathetic vampire character has been with us ever since Varney the Vampire, a Victorian vampire novel that predates 1890′s Dracula by several decades.  And let’s not forget that for every Edward Cullen, there is a bloodthirsty, demonic screen vampire such as the ones seen in 30 Days of Night or Stakeland.  Vampires have always been varied - the Dracula canon is not sacred, and were every screenwriter and novelist to strictly adhere to the rules, then the genre would not have endured thoughout the last century in such a manner.

Bill Compton, Eric Northman and Russell Edgington may all be capable of showing love and devotion, but they are also responsible for heinous and nihilistic acts.  I wonder if Dr. George has even seen the show?  Perhaps she would not be so hasty to dismiss the True Blood vampires as noble heroes if she’d witnessed Bill turning Lorena’s head 180 degrees during rough sex, or Eric ripping out a man’s heart and drinking it like a juicebox, or Russell tearing out a newscaster’s spine on live television.

What do you think?  Has the literary and screen vampire been neutered in recent years?  Or do the wide variations in vampire lore breathe life in to the genre?

TV Guide columnist William Keck posted this exclusive photo of Nora, played by newcomer Lucy Griffiths, with Bill and Eric from the season five premiere. According to TV Guide, Nora is a part of the Vampire Authority and

“She’s an irreverent British lady who we think was turned during Elizabethan or Victorian times…It’s been years since she’s seen Eric, and she is very excited. She looks up to him, but they’ve had a fiery love/hate relationship in the way that brothers and sisters do.”

Griffiths also reveals more details about the photo: “It occurs just after I’ve met them, and it’s a reaction to being taken by surprise by some threatening characters.” Despite being eight episodes into filming the season, Griffiths said that there’s no “Bon Temps romance” for her character but she has her eye on Salome, an ancient vampire seductress, who will be played by Italian actress Valentina Cervi. Griffith’s described Nora and Salome’s relationship as: “They’re very close.”
Like always, waiting truly does suck!

publications other projects movie cover alexander skarsgard We finally got our hands on the April 14—27th issue of the Malaysian magazine Hot today. The magazine has quite stunning pictures of Alexander Skarsgård in it, and an interview about the upcoming movie Battleship.

“If the characters and relationships don’t work, it doesn’t matter how cool the monsters or aliens are.”

Did you play the game Battleship growing up?

Yes, but it was the old-school one with pegs, not the electronic version. I remember eating the pegs in kindergarten. They were delicious [laughs].

What did you do in Hawaii in your free time?

I went to the North Shore to surf and also to Kauai. I had never been to Hawaii before. It’s not a bad place to shoot a movie.

Stayhard Magazine 2 2012 Cover publications cover alexander skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgård covers the #2 issue of the Swedish magazine ‘Stayhard’.

UPDATE: The wonderful Annika translated the article for AlexSkarsgard.net. You can read the whole article here.

Excerpt:

At this very moment Alexander is busy making the actual season of True Blood. He has a couple of free hours for interviews. -The work schedule is hard, he tells. Long working hours with little sleep. -The life in LA is not actually that glamorous as one would think. Most of my time I spend working and I very seldom go out. Bars and clubs are not that fun in LA either. They are actually quite cheesy and because everybody is driving a car, most of the places close already at 1.30 am. Also they mostly play bad music. Those times I go out I go out to listen for a band.

The article was 6 pages, the cover & table of contents. We also included close-ups of the text.

Fangirls Speak Out: Are Sexy Men Really Himbos?

Himbos publications other projects movie joe manganiello true blood cast fangirls speak out alexander skarsgard

In the May issue of GQ magazine,  you will find another article written by a woman (this one is by Lauren Bans) that seems to take offense of the men that appear shirtless in television/movies. (Last fall, Julieanne Smolinski wrote about too much nudity in film, also in GQ). They do not mention True Blood, but they show a picture of Alcide (Joe Manganiello) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) as “Supernatural Himbos.” They do show a larger picture from Magic Mike (Joe included).

They say a “himbo” is a man that is more attractive than he is smart. I don’t think anyone is arguing Magic Mike is going to be held in high esteem as say, The King’s Speech or The Artist, but let’s face it: it’s going to be one wild night out with your best girlfriends. If the article was just concerned with men appearing as “himbos” it wouldn’t be so bad, but the article itself is under the subject of GQ Intelligence as “Dummies”. What makes men so dumb for taking off their shirt?

Alexander Skarsgård in Swedish Magazine Damernas Värld

Alex Telegraph 2012 pic1 publications alexander skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgård was interviewed for the Swedish magazine Damernas Värld. He talks about his film career, choosing True Blood and his family.

Excerpt:

In two years, Swedes will be out of fashion and I will be unemployed’, Alexander Skarsgård jokes. We meet at the studio at Universal Studios in LA. It’s relaxing to interview Alexander Skarsgård. He doesn’t want to be put on a pedestal in a conversation. Despite the hype that has followed him the last four years – and despite him being interviewed by international press all day long – the conversation and the tone is unpretentious and comfortable. As if we actually met in a coffee house in Södermalm in Stockholm and not LA. And this is no wonder since that is where his heart is. Today, Alexander Skarsgård has lived in Los Angeles for more than eight years, and he likes his new hometown, but the longing for his old hometown is always there.

You can read the whole translated article at AlexSkarsgard.net. Many thanks to their friend J from Sweden for sending the scans & translating the article. You can buy the magazine at the Damernas Värld website.
