Is anyone going to watch the Super Bowl this weekend? How about the Beach Bowl game that is played the day before? Joe Manganiello will be in  Indianapolis to compete in DIRECTV’s Sixth Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl, presented by SPIKE TV, on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The event, which has grown over the years to become one of the most anticipated events of Super Bowl weekend, is free and open to the public. The game itself features Hollywood’s brightest stars competing against NFL greats in a no-holds-barred flag football game in front of thousands of fervent fans. The action will take place in a specially constructed stadium complete with a sand-filled football field and concert stage. Immediately following the game and trophy presentation the crowd will fill the beach for a concert, presented by Palladia HD, featuring The Fray performing songs from their upcoming album Scars and Stories.

Kristin Bauer Supports WSPA’s Collars Not Cruelty Campaign

kristindog 300x264 charitable causesWe all know that Kristin Bauer is a huge animal advocate and supports  many charitable organizations which protect those who cannot protect themselves. Kristin recently has announced her support for the World Society for the Protection of Animals’ (WSPA) Collars Not Cruelty campaign to protect dogs from cruelty and rabies.

From the WSPA website: Bauer, who plays vampire Pam in the smash-hit series True Blood, announced her support for WSPA’s campaign after hearing about the brutal ways in which nearly 20 million dogs are killed every year, often in failed attempts to control rabies.

“I was absolutely shocked when I heard that governments around the world are resorting to poisoning, shooting or gassing dogs as a way to try and prevent the spread of rabies,” said Bauer. “It’s so important to spread the word about WSPA’s effective and humane alternative solution – mass vaccination – so that this horrible cruelty ends. We must continue to demand collars, not cruelty, in the fight against rabies.”

To show the world that mass killing of dogs doesn’t stop rabies and that only vaccination does, the WSPS is letting 100,000 dogs loose across the net: one for every dog they vaccinate against rabies and save from a brutal death.

You can participate by naming a dog that will be “set free” by going to their website and selecting a dog of your own, like my own dog, Walter here.

HolidayCharity2011 2 alexander skarsgard

Attention all knitters/crocheters and all around crafty critters out there! Do you want to do something to help society that shouldn’t cost you much moolah? Our sister-site, AlexSkarsgard.net (along with SkarsgardNews.com and Skarsgardfans.com) is participating in a charity event that’s close to Alexander Skarsgård’s heart, and we urge you to participate too. The drive this year is to benefit “Handmade Especially For You.”

RedScarfLong 89x300 alexander skarsgardDid you know that every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten? Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually and that those children are twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents. Even sadder than that, based on reports from 10 countries, between 55% and 95% of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted anyone for help. Many feel they don’t have the means to walk away, they don’t know how or they’re just too afraid to take those steps in order to better their lives… or the lives of their little ones.

That’s why this year AlexSkarsgard.net decided to go with an endeavor which aids in comforting victims of abuse… Handmade Especially For You.

Handmade Especially For You wants every woman who comes into a shelter to receive a handmade scarf simply because she was brave enough to leave her abusive situation. Leaving an abusive environment is a huge step for the woman who takes it. Handmade wants to make an impact on the women who receive the scarves, most of whom have never received a personal gift, much less a handmade personal gift. We want receiving these scarves to help lift their self-esteem and help them to begin changing their lives. We hope the scarves are a symbol of every woman’s transformation.

The scarves are not for sale. They are gifts, which we give from our hearts.

Learn more here, and if you are crafty, please participate in this holiday charity drive.

Pittsburgh native Joe Manganiello returns home for the holidays for WPXI’s My Macy’s Parade, Saturday, Nov. 26, and will also attend a post-parade meet and greet at the Waterfront Dave & Buster’s to benefit the Steel Valley Salvation Army Worship and Service Center.

For $20, fans will be able to snap a photo, get an autograph, and a Dave & Buster’s game card. Although the event doesn’t start until 1 p.m., doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Early attendees also have the chance to win a lunch, courtesy of Dave & Buster’s. The autograph session will run from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Joe was in the parade and hosted this event last year, in coordination with The Salvation Army and WPXI. Any Joe-lovers willing to bare the post-Thanksgiving Day food comas and cold to support this cause?
