New Year’s Eve has traditionally been the time to reflect over the past year; today we’re taking the time to go through the True Blood events of 2009…
We started the year eagerly awaiting the Golden Globes ceremony. True Blood was up for best TV show and Anna was nominated for a GG for best TV drama actress. We couldn’t wait to see Anna and Stephen in public, since their relationship was one of the best kept secrets (to them maybe ;). And, let me tell you, we were not disappointed.
Anna won the Golden Globe, and we saw for the first time (outside of tabloids), a simple kiss between the two (a shy one, but enough to ensure that they were together). The photos that came later just confirmed what everyone knew. True Blood didn’t win for Best TV show but somehow we all felt that Anna’s Golden Globe was an award for the entire cast and crew… and also for the fans that were following the event; because make no mistake, us fans feel we were part of this thing.
Later that month, our insane curiosity was satiated, as the first photos of Anna & Stephen as a couple were released – the Vanity Fair Party photos. We spent whole weeks talking about how awesome they looked together and sharing our happiness that our favourite couple in fiction and real life, were having a solid relationship.
Then in April, we had the Paley festival, where we could see the main cast together after 4 months of anxiety. There we got some insight about what was to come in season 2; we knew it was going to be good. At the same time, the first promos for season 2 came out and we started to satisfy our lust accompanied by the broken deep voice of Bob Dylan’s “Beyond Here Lies Nothing.”
Next, on June 9th, cast and crew reunited for the season 2 premiere party at the Paramount Theater in Hollywood. Amazing photos and video interviews flooded the internet for the next week until the following Sunday.

And then, the main event. June 14th was our big day as True Blood’s new season premiered on HBO. We all talked about the first episode en masse discussing what we liked, what was different, but we soon fell for the whole season. I was really happy to see that season 2 was so different from season 1, but for sentimental reasons, I believe season 1 will always be my favourite. I found what Alan and the other writers designed to be really brave – this insane orgy of absurdity. It’s the first show where I can forgive anything, no matter how stupid it appears on the surface, because you always see coherency in the plot eventually.
Todd Lowe, Ashley Jones and Allan Hyde did interviews during EyeCon this past November with Allison Walker of Central Florida On Demand… and in answer to Allison’s question, “Todd, it’s past two o’clock today and why you waking up this late for?” Sorry Todd! Lividity, Tincar, Cory and I take full responsibility for keeping you out so late. It was fun!

Nelsan Ellis…what can I say? This man is so forthright and endearing, there really isn’t that much more needs be said. Watch the video, you’ll see what I mean. I could not believe they did not provide the man with a chair!

Finally, I have the entire Sam Trammell Q&A session up. And I’m just going to say it again. Sam is just an adorable likable guy. Everyone I talked to that met him said that same thing. So, if you have about 46 minutes to spare, here’s the whole thing…(had to break into chapters for Youtube). Also, published WS and not FS which resulted in cropping for which I will be tormented by all I can assure you – will fix and repost at a later date. For chapters 2 – 6 select “read more.”
Is this a great picture or what? You obviously recognize the five actors from True Blood: Nelsan Ellis, Sam Trammell, Todd Lowe, Ashley Jones and Allan Hyde. The other two men may not be actors but they sure were fun and interesting guys to hang out with all weekend.
Choroideremia Ribbon
That’s Cory MacDonald standing next to Sam, a representative and fund raiser for the Choroideremia Research Foundation(CRF). We’ve gotten to know him quite well over the last few months and this blind man knows how to have a good time. The other quite handsome and tall fellow is Greyson Wolf; he was part of the team that developed the fangs for True Blood in season 1.
In the very near future we’ll be telling you all about our weekend of fun at EyeCon, meeting the actors and hanging out with Lividity’s favourite man, Todd Lowe. Woo Hoo!
*Some people have asked about the sticker we all were wearing throughout Eyecon. The decal is for the CRF and it really was a great idea to wear them as people wanted to know what it was all about, and it gave us the opportunity to explain about this disease and how we came to help raise funds for it. Here’s a bigger pic of the CRF ribbon.
OK, so there was this masquerade ball at Eyecon last night. Basically, it was a banquet room off of the main lobby. It was decorated all vampirey and they were playing some season 1 episodes on projection. The cast members that were in attendance at Eyecon were trotted through the thing and they mingled and chatted with the fans. There was a very lovely dancer from Jamaica who really was hot – no, really hot.
The major story here though is the fans themselves. Holy shit, some of these people really put the time and effort into their costumes. Check ‘em out.
