Carrie Preston & Michael Emerson in “A Woman Killed with Kindness”
By Lividity on November 2nd, 2009| 3 Comments »Michael Emerson and wife Carrie Preston (who portrays Arlene on True Blood) will star in Thomas Heywood’s tragedy, “A Woman Killed with Kindness” on December 28th. The play was first acted in 1603 and published in 1607. It’s considered to be Heywood’s masterpiece.
The play is part of Red Bull Theatre’s 2009-2010 series of Revelation Readings, to be held on Monday nights at The Theatre at St. Clement’s in New York.
Chronicling the fall of a pure wife and the fate of a young virgin, this domestic tragedy dissects the nature of revenge. The play tells the story of a married couple, Master Frankford and his wife Anne. The husband catches his wife in an adulterous situation with his companion and chooses to mildly punish her. Anne decided a more appropriate punishment would be self-starvation, which she pursues until close to death.
The play will be directed by Kay Matschullat.
