Brit Morgan Says Debbie Pelt “A Whole New Level of Crazy”

Anyone for a Patty Melt?
Brit Morgan talked to TV Guide in an ever-so-slightly spoilerish interview about her character, Debbie Pelt, and a “murderous rampage” against Sookie. Sounds like fun, eh?
While True Blood’s Bill is off dealing with his own enemies, Sookie has a brand-new nemesis of her own. Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan), a crazed V-addicted werewolf who’s engaged to pack leader Cooter (Grant Bowler), still has unresolved feelings about her ex-boyfriend, Alcide (Joe Manganiello). So seeing Sookie (Anna Paquin) around Alcide, Morgan tells TVGuide.com, “pretty much sparks a murderous rampage in her head.” She also told us what other mythical creatures we’ll meet before the end of Season 3.
TVGuide.com: How does it feel getting to join such a hot cast?
Morgan: It’s such a beautiful cast. It’s amazing. It feels like one of the best and most awesome things that’s ever happened to me. I was real nervous starting out. At the first table read, I could barely think straight. Everyone is just so easy going, despite how good-looking they are.
TVGuide.com: Tell us about your character, Debbie Pelt.
Morgan: Debbie Pelt is a really kick-ass, passionate, ballsy woman. I’m a werewolf with a bit of an addiction to V, so I’m going on a rampage against Sookie. I’m not too happy with her. My character just takes this winding road, a bit of a downward spiral. I’m definitely in attack mode towards Sookie.
TVGuide.com: Did you read the Sookie Stackhouse novels before being cast?
Morgan: Once I was cast, I read two of them. Just the ones I was involved in. I’m not sure if I’m too far off on this, but I think Debbie is much different [in the show] than in the books. In the books, you can tell she was a badass, and that she’s not a chick you want to mess with, but [the show writers] took it to a whole new level of crazy. They also amped up the trailer trash aspect. Nothing is too much. There are no limitations around me. I got to do whatever I wanted with her. There’s nothing better than playing crazy when everyone else is just encouraging it.
TVGuide.com: The stakes are so much higher this year because the werewolves and vampires don’t get along and are both powerful.
Morgan: They don’t get along well, but that’s great because up until this point it’s been vampires ruling the planet because they’re the most powerful thing. It’s cool to see another species that exists within the series that challenges that. There are two other sets of mystical creatures you’ll be introduced to toward the end of the season. There are fairies and there are going to be witches.
TVGuide.com: Who else does Debbie get to interact with this season?
Morgan: I got to interact with Eric [Alexander Skarsgård] a little bit, and I know a lot of people will be envious of me. I got to interact with Bill [Stephen Moyer] and Lorena [Mariana Kleveno]. It’s mostly with Sookie, but I do a lot of interaction with the lead of the vampire kingdom in Mississippi, Russell [Denis O'Hare], who is a captivating villain after Maryann [Michelle Forbes].
Morgan makes her True Blood debut Sunday at 9/8c on HBO.

In the book she’s a shapeshifter, this may be some little confused to readers of the book. btw WITCHES!!!! :D
She’s a were-fox/lynx in the books, not a shifter like sam.
I wonder if they made her a werewolf for simplicity’s sake.
This is just my opinion, not sure if I’m right but I think the reason they made her a werewolf is because she becomes part of the pack. I know there is a scene where she gets branded and we see her on stage with RE, probably part of her initiation. Since they wanted her to be part of RE’s were pack, I think that’s why they made her a werewolf on the show.
Absolutely correct CR, she was a were-fox in the books (i’m slightly disappointed) but I also do think that you hit the nail on the head saying they made Debbie a werewolf for simplicity’s sake. Good call. Makes sense to limit every single minute detail when you’re adapting a book series to TV. Not completely necessary. I just was looking forward to seeing a real trained fox in the flesh. I LOVE that they use real animals. So perfect. But oh well, they will still have opportunities w/ Sam and his family to be other cool animals. I’m definitely satisfied overall with the show.
This is definitely my favorite TV series (other than Fringe) and definitely my favorite book series as well.
Nop. In the book she’s a shapeshifter that is called herself werefox. The fox is the creature that she has for some special affinity. In Club dead, Alcide told that:
QUOTE ON: “I hated to hustle you all out of the apartment like that, but I didn’t want her to see the three of you, in
view of conclusions she might have drawn. Debbie can get really mad, and I thought if she saw you in
conjunction with the vampires, she might hear a rumor that Russell was missing a prisoner and put two
and two together. She might even be mad enough to call Russell.”
“So much for loyalty among Weres.”
“She’s a shifter, not a Were,” Alcide said instantly, and a suspicion of mine was confirmed. I was
beginning to believe that Alcide, despite his stated conviction that he was determined to kept the Were
gene to himself, would never be happy with anyone but another Were. I sighed: I tried to keep it a nice,
quiet sigh. I might be wrong, after all. QUOTE OFF
Sam had told in the book that shape-shifters most often changed to the same animal every time, some creature they had a special affinity for. And they might call themselves by that animal: weredog, or werebat, or weretiger.
Interesting which characters Britt Morgan says she interacted with, aside from Sookie. Surprised – and delighted – to see King Russell as one of her main dramatic foils. Can’t wait. Also surprised that she says (if I’ve read this correctly) that werewolves challenge vampires in the supremacy stakes. As I’ve said before, the weres are seriously ADHD and also are routinely slaughtered by vamps. Bring on the were-giraffes.
Anytime Russell gets more screen time is A-OK, y’know? I gotta say, though, that Debbie Pelt sounds one-dimensional and that’s my impression of the werewolves, in general. If they challenge the vampires that’s like Neanderthals challenging Homo sapiens sapiens and it can’t possibly work.
Plus, I’m so grateful I didn’t read those books. I hope AB continues to stray as far from them as possible. Bring on the eco-vampires!
Fairies and witches! What a surprise!
Also, a lot of people would be envious of her working with Stephen Moyer!
I can’t wait for Debbie, bring on the crazy. I hear she is a great actress, looking forward to her performance. Sookie won’t have it easy with both Lorena and Debbie.
poor sookie!
how could she ever survive if debbie and lorena join forces against her?
ohh thats right…the sookie legion of protectors: Bill, Sam, Eric, Alcide and throw in Jason!!! Lucky fairy lass!!!
Poor Sookie! Poor Bill!!!!!! I bet she’s part of his torture.
Fairies and witches, crap! Too much of this stuff in CH’s books for my liking. What comes next: ogres, trolls, leprechauns and the Easter Bunny? Enough already!
Perhaps the Loch Ness Monster will surface in Bill’s bathtub.
I wanna play the monster.
Or Champ, the Lake Champlain monster.
In the third book appears a goblin hahaha.
I really like when is augmented the bestiary.
Nick Clark..could you please provide me the page # and name of the Book so I may see with my own eyes that is an accurate quote. Many people remember Debbie as a WereFox. I’m not really doubting you, i just need to reference my book for positive verification.
Please snd thank you!
