Alexander Skarsgård covers the October 2011 issue of Men’s Journal. It hits the newsstands on Friday, September 16th. I encourage you to pick up this magazine or at least read the article in the scans below.
“A man should be able to make a nice coq au vin,” he insists.
On being voted Sexiest Man in Sweden five years running: “Every single day, I wake up and look in the mirror and think, “Five times, motherfucker. Five times.”
But the truth is, up close – and this not to take anything away from him, because, let’s face it, the dude is like a Nordic god in better jeans and styling gel – Skarsgård is actually a little awkward, with a gangly bearing and endearingly dorky overbite. “I was surprised at how goofy he was,” says Kirsten Dunst, who costars as his love interest in the upcoming Melancholia. “Almost like a puppy in a body that’s too big for him. All these girls are like, “Oh my God, he’s so hot.” But he’s really such a goof.”

“Hollywood’s Hottest New Leading Man”
* LOVE *
Yes, it´s true! Love this sexy man!
I love the tagline too. Here’s hoping his movies are gonna do well.
Love, love, love. So excited for him!
He’s my hottest leading man. I have never scheduled a day off of work to go see a movie until Straw Dogs. Only one week to go! And this magazine comes out on the same day!
Don’t buy this magazine ever but I think I’ll make an exception ;) :)
That was supposed to say “I dont ever buy this magazine but I’ll make an exception ;)”
God he’s gorgeous its a wonder that im not sick of seeing him everywhere.
What the hell did they do to him? Whatever kind of digital cr*p they did, it looks terrible.
Not his best photo, really. I’d like a photoshoot where he’s actually smiling and laughing. And not photoshopped.
I’ve seen the rest of the pics from the photo shoot and they are Skarsalicious, too!
Thanks for posting!
Please someone out there, count up the ASkgars magazine covers. . I think the only publications he hasn’t graced are National Geographic. and Australasian Dentist. There’s always next week, though..
In lifestyle magazine-land, we used to say that you were guaranteed a sell-out if you put one of two things on the cover: the Royal family or a kitchen. I guess we should add AS to the list – clearly he’s making the mags fly off the stands.
Acanthus, I did a quick roundup of the covers that I am aware of.

He’s on 9 covers in 2011 alone!
WOW. Thanks for the round-up, Jody. Nine covers in nine months of 2011. He just needs an October, November and December cover, and presto, a calendar of mag covers.
A very minor but delightful side-effect of all these cover stories (and all the hundreds of stories elsewhere): a thousand editors, sub-editors and proofreaders around the globe now know where to find that halo-ed Scandinavian “a” in the alphabetical symbol section of Word :-)))
Okay, it’s a really s-l-o-w night, and I didn’t know what that diacritical ringy thingy was called, so I looked it up. It’s called a kål, and if you’re a smartass, you type ALT+0197 for an Å or ALT+0229 for the lower case å. If you’re a smarter smartass, you’ll make a macro.(Or if you a are a lazy Gordian Knot smartass, you’ll cut and paste) Bet at least two people on this board didn’t know that.
I was one of the two and I now feel that much smarter. Thanks for doing all that legwork!
BTW, the 9 magazine covers I mentioned above doesn’t include his Vogue photoshoot and his Man of Style for InStyle this year.
Ah Jody, excellent work here as usual. I love that Kirsten reveals that he’s a bit goofy. I think that actually makes Alex more endearing (if you can believe that).
I agree, I think in him it is very attractive and endearing. And such an interesting contrast to BAMF Eric Northman. And then all his co-workers and fans saying how very, very nice he is. No wonder we find him so fascinating! It’s a win-win-win!
I always thought he was goofy……
Thanks for the update Jody.
Loved the interview!!
Another decent interview, we’re on a roll. I hope he gets to keep choosing his roles like this and doesn’t get stuck being the tall guy from the vampire show. This viking movie intrigues me too.
His height is going to be an issue no matter what. Let’s face it, actors are horribly insecure and the industry pretty much coddles that. It’ll be hard for him to be cast with short actors unless he’s the opposition. Not everyone is as comfortlabe with themselves as Stephen Moyer, and Stephen is average height.
THe cover may be awful, but its a really good interview and reveals things about Alex that we haven’t seen before. I can understand why he dosn’t read internet stuff about himself. He’s too self conscious and probably internalizes alot of sh*t.
A poster did his astrology chart 3 years ago on the HBO wiki …and when she posted it….well…several other posters said: ” okay, now I understand why he’s still single”
Everyone has their demons , but he seems like a good person and I hope things work out for him.
As for the 2 year comment : all the actors signed 7 year contracts so even if the show is going well in 7 years, that means their contracrs will have to be renegociated and you all know the various agents will be asking for more $$$ . Let’s face it, a number of these actors weren’t just cast cuz of being good, but because they’re cheap. HBO won’t put out the $ and the show will probably be over.
Now, what would be a good option is to do some movies cuz out of all the shows HBO has had, True Blood would benefit from being converted to the bigger art form with more $ available for decent special effects . If they can do it with Sex In the City, they can do it with TB I say! Or a 3 hour movie on HBO exclusively, that would be cool too.
I still think book 7 at Rhodes would be the best conversion, its a big story , much too big for the current show and they could spend the $ on some good special effects.
Umm, he thinks he only has another two years of true blood and then he will move on??? WHAT!!! Dont take my viking away!
Another 2 years? wtf? so AB has two options: end the series in two years or kill Eric which anyway means the end of the show…i hate bout options… but i rater the first just to see Eric and Sookie finally together forever…
