Alan Ball

“For people who read the book, they’ll be surprised who kidnapped Bill,” Alan Ball promised devoted fan(g)s in a recent interview.

“We definitely have used the plot from the book as a starting point,” Ball continued. “But we have done a lot differently as well. There’s a lot of new stuff happening, a lot more about vampire politics, and the introduction of werewolves into our world… Everybody is being extremely tested by the circumstances of their lives.”

The residents of Bon Temps aren’t the only ones who struggle. Ball explained, “Part of our challenge is that the books are basically Sookie’s story… We’re always looking for a way to create stories for the other characters and at the same time unify everything that keeps all the characters involved with each other as much as we can… I think that’s part of the appeal of the show, that there are so many characters with so many different stories…”

Fans of the show aren’t shy about throwing their two cents into the ring (this fan(g) included), whether it’s regarding casting or story-lines.  Alan Ball admitted, “Alcide was hard to cast, and interestingly enough, there was a lot of fan interest in Joe. There were a lot of people on his message boards on IMBD saying this guy should play Alcide… We lucked out with Joe because he’s trained and also physically appropriate for the role. Joe just brought the whole package.”

Alcide and Sookie Super-Sleuthing

Joe Manganiello, who’s a fan of the show himself, is overwhelmed by the support he’s already received, even before appearing on True Blood.

When asked about Season Three, Joe said, “It starts out wild and it just gets crazier, and it answers questions that people have always pondered, but in answering those questions all these other questions get thrown out. It’s awesome.”

Glad it is veering from the books but hope AB is still in for the Bill and Sookie ride and not converted to Alcide!!

  2. cr says:

I suspect that AB will end with Bill/Sookie, but if that was a straight path it might not be entertaining tv. So I’m sure they’ll be, hmm, distractions for Sookie.

  3. CrazyforBill says:

I don’t think we need to be worried about Bill being marginalized, or about Bill and Sookie not ending up together. I am a lot happier about AB’s vision than you know who’s, and know that we Bill lovers are safe in his hands. At the end of the show, Sookie will be more worthy of our Bill, she will grow up a bit more. Lizzie, in the final analysis, she is a good woman who deserves him. She is finding her way, and the way leads to Bill.

Thanks cfb! I love what you say and I put my faith in AB!

        Yes C4B and Lizzie,
I couldn’t have said it better.
Bless AB for taking the books and making them so much more worthwhile!!

        Go True BLood!

The phrase, “it starts out wild and just gets crazier”, is not one I wanted to hear. Sam Trammel said the same thing last season, and “crazier”, to me is now code for “over the top silly camp”. This is not stoking my hope that S3 will get back on track. On the brighter side, Joe does mention that some long awaited questions may be answered. Hopefully, this will include, the parameters of the blood bond, vampire political structure, vampire self-policing and all the things that would make for a somewhat realistic alternative universe.

I’m also quite skeptical of more craziness. While I understand, to a certain extent, the show is meant to be odd, I will weep, openly and without shame, if S3 turns into a repeat of S2 absurdity. I want blood bond answers too. And i’m really excited for more goings-on in the vampire world.

Didn’t someone say there was going to be a science fiction type element this season? What? Aliens?? UFO’s? Or is that part of the craziness??

I never heard or read that, Lizzie. I am, however, really looking forward to Russell and Bill’s storyline. I think it’ll be sad and hard on us but ultimately more rewarding than watching Sookie pout and whine all the time at Bill.

        • lizzie1701 says:

It was one of the ensemble cast, can’t remember who, but maybe they just thought the craziness was Sci fi -ish.

While ‘crazier’ fills me with cold dread (watching the S2 dvd makes me realise how frigging annoying a lot of it was), vampire politics is good. And so is not following Book 3 to the letter because you know, I dislike it violently :p Book 4 is pretty entertaining, just don’t mention the word ‘Peru’ to me or I’m likely to hurt something.

  7. konfettii says:

I dislike immensely that I want to FF so much when I watch S2 reruns. The good parts were VERY good, but some..eh. I can’t think of a single storyline I didn’t enjoy back in season one. Hopefully this year will be the same.
I’m all for surprises, and I hope they are pleasant ones. Or at least entertaining!

  8. AterialFountain says:

Surpises make for great television. I love that Alan Ball is his own man and isn’t afraid to tell the stories that we may not want to see, but we need to see.

I have no pre concieved ideas or hopes about the various pairings, I’m just waiting excitedly for the ride to begin. True Blood is such a dark and decadent world and I’ll happily devour every morsel.

  9. fleur says:

fan de bill, j’espère qu’alan ball ne va pas l’exclure ni en faire devenir un personnage traitre……Sookie bill dans la série c’est une évidence
